Rebuilding the Original STONE Entrance For the Chateau | Discovering HIDDEN Stones.

Bonjour à tous, its back to work with the original stone entrance once used for all the service goods coming into the château, unfortunately the whole wall was on the verge of collapse, so bit by bit the family have been rebuilding the wall ready for the gate to be fitted but while working Terry discovers some more decorative carved stone, but what was it for?

About us,
We are a family from the North-East of England following our dream to restore a beautiful abandoned french Château. We discovered the heart stopping Château De Lalacelle in summer of 2020, this beautiful architectural monument Is set in the countryside of North-West France.
The moment we visited the Château we all fell in love, from the beautiful sweeping landscape and forests, to its stunning untouched interiors and magnificent spiral staircase in the turret.
Unfortunately Château De Lalacelle has been abandoned for a number of decades so will need a lot of restoration and DIY.
Please subscribe and follow our families journey, with the up’s and down’s in moving from the UK to rural France and restoring this beautiful building to its former glory.

A summer in the French countryside with the scent of lavender in the evening and happy voices all around you, I guess it makes all the hard labour worth your effort. It's clear that you are all very caring people and somehow your sense of honesty shines through too. You have already achieved so much to protect the chateau. Obviously, your project means much more to you than just a faithful restoration, it's seems like a genuine rebirth. Bit by bit you are finding all the scattered pieces of history, eventually their purposes and significance will be revealed. Bonne chance.

I would be surprised if you hadn't been approached by other people to give them lessons on how to repair their walls. What a hard working family you are and I take my sun hat off to you. Well done once again. It was lovely to see Johnathon helping out too. He is learning so much from you all. 👏 👏 👏 👏 👏 👏 👏 👏 👏 ❤

In addition, the octagon stone suggests that it was used in a more prominent or visible location near the chateau. Granite is very difficult to cut and would be expensive even then. The other plainer stones suggest somewhere less visible.

I am very curious how the iron fence that's damaged as though something ran into it , can be straightened out. I love rocks , so I love watching you and your mom , rebuild the tumbled down rock walls ! They look wonderful when they are finished. They are a sort of picture frame around the gorgeous main structure . I love the rockery ! The entire property is magnificent and would have crumbled into oblivion if your family had not had a great vision for restoration. Posterity salutes your dedication.

It is a beautiful entrance and looks good now. You two are quite a team, Mom and son. The pin looks like the base of a vase of granite. Perhaps the two octagonal stones are underneath those. Such a big and labour intensive project. You never shy away from tough manual labour and the result is fantastic! Look forward to seeing gate back in place and pointing done.

Jenny from Jenny’s Chateau Farm said after the Revolution that the French destroyed many of the chateaux and then rebuilt. You may want to contact her to see if she can give you more information.

I was thinking the same thing, those octagon stones would look nice in the walled garden with a statue on it.❤

Thanks for talking about the pins at the bottom of the gates. I was wondering how the gates could function without a bottom pin. That is an interesting feature I’d not seen before.

I love watching you work, Terry and the way you are in sync with your family is delightful. You are an artist with a keen eye. The Chateau is gorgeous and being from Canada ( a relatively young country) the history and documents are fascinating.

Those two eight sided pillars would be great to use inside as plynth's maybe with wooden bases to make them taller with works of art on top or large potted ferns or other indoor plants
