Rebuilding the 1979 Ducati 900 Replica (Part 1) - Back to Classics

Rebuilding the 1979 Ducati 900 Replica (Part 1) - Back to Classics
In this episode of Back to Classics, we start with the final build of the 1979 900 Mike Hailwood Replica.
After Mike Hailwood’s spectacular victory at the 1978 Isle of Man Formula one race, Ducati commemorated this event with the introduction of a race replica. This bike was introduced in 1979 and only produced in a limited run of 300 (initially announced to be limited to 200!) and came with a certificate. Although Mike’s racing bike was based on a 900 NCR Formula 1, the street model was largely based on the 900 Super Sport of the same year with bodywork mimicking the sport Motorcycle racer.
Harné is going to take you through the early stages of the build starting with fitting the frame around the freshly rebuild engine. After that he will be restoring and installing parts like the rear shocks and electrical system. Gradually he will take you along the whole process, step by step. In future videos in this series we will get this bike on the road!
Thanks for watching this episode and see you soon at Back to Classics!

l owned a 900 SS in 78/9....(Younger, far more supple body back then)...Loved it. A great exhaust note through the Conti pipes, plus stunning handling...What a wonderful looking engine the V-twin bevel drive is...Best looking bikes ever...

Hugely impressed by the elegance of your solutions, my friend. And deeply ashamed of the state of my workshop. Best regards from a New Zealander now committed to watching a Dutchman replicate an iconic Italian racing motorcycle built by an Englishman who is currently helping me to get a 1927 Triumph running. It's a small world.😊

I’ve fixed horns by putting them in an ultrasonic cleaner before. Sometimes that frees things up that have seized from sitting.

This bike is going to look better than brand new. I was just thinking that your indicators are flashing too quickly, and the problem you have with the horn not working could be down to poor ground/earth connection on the freshly painted frame . Ive had the same problems in the past Also dont forget your safety glasses when using the lathe great work

This is wonderful. Interested to see how the rear brake system works. Is there a crossover shaft involved from lever on right side (?) to the rear brake on left side. Really enjoying this. Cheers !

By 1978 Ducati had come up with a good solution for the left-side gear change. No crossover rods were needed as the gear linkage moved to the left and the rear brake master cylinder moved to the right. Only the 1976-77 models are problematic in that area.

That orangey colour I would describe as Vermillion. I have a 1979 900 SS which I cite as better than sex.
