I had the same type of accident. After that, half racks on wheels only. I got a APC 24” deep one and I just framed a makeshift closet around it. One of these days I’ll get around to installing a door that has good airflow. It is overkill for a house but once you’re down the unifi rabbit hole you end up with a data center in your basement.

Appreciate the video. I am preparing to clean up some of my cables and redo my rack in the very near future. I am going to watch your next video about labeling.

This is awesome. I was hoping to see some configuration if there was any needed. I would think that unplugging your switches etc. would require a re-configuration of everything or is it just a plug and play deal when moving switches to a new rack?

I change my network configuration so much because making videos it wouldn't have made much sense lol. I will be creating a new Unifi 2023 build video soon

What brand/model of the toner did you use?

Maybe its a bad idea but I always back up DAC cables with Ethernet. They get blocked but will take over in case of a DAC (or transceiver) failure.

Hey, I wanted everything heavy at the bottom. I plan on putting other switches ( Aruba, Tp-link) and some shelf’s to hold my PFsense gear in the middle

The basement isn’t finished it’s a somewhat new house. Not sure if will be finishing it as we’re looking to buy a bigger home

Curious why you are using a 25U rack for about 7-9U of equipment. Future proofing and airflow? Seems a little overkill for that even.

Do you get a 10gig connection through those keystones? I was planning on having keystones on the server rack and in the office.

You can get up to 10GB on Cat 6 in short distances. If you want 10GB at longer distance 100m you need to use Cat 6A and they make keystones as well

I've got a bit of a question, pretty simple / something I'm missing. My understanding is that you take your connection from your ISP and it goes into a modem if you have cable, or a ONT if fiber. The modem then takes coax > ethernet, and then you send that your router. In your case, where is your WAN coming from, it's coming from the ethernet, but doesn't that mean there's also a device before that? Would that be where your ISP fiber > ONT > ethernet > UDM Pro > Switch Aggregator > USW Enterprise correct?

Correct; ISP fiber > ONT > ethernet > UDM Pro. Then the UDM Pro has internet access. From there, it serves the rest of the Ubiquiti network equipment and its clients.

Bro, what ISP do you use. I can plug in the fiber from Bell directly to UDM Pro. So much better that way.

I’m with bell and I can do the same: I just need to run the fiber about 30 feet to my rack which is planning on eventually doing

What are you going to be using the bottom switch for bearly nothing was plugged into it an the top switch still had plenty of ports left for more things

Not sure I bought it to do a view on. This is only a little bit of the gear I have currently. The USW aggregation pro has 25GB uplinks as well so when I get a server I’ll be connecting it to those ports

Why the 24 port switch and then the aggregation switch?

My hand eye coordination sucks with making cables I’m going to try to get the kind with load bars soon give that a spin

Probably there's a 1G connection from the "Unifi enterprise 24 PoE switch" to the clients. The DAC cable provides a 10G connection between the "Unifi aggregation switch pro" and the "Unifi enterprise 24 PoE switch". The DAC cable provides a 10G connection between the "Unifi aggregation switch pro" and the "Unifi UDM Pro". The DAC cable provides a 10G connection between the "Unifi aggregation switch pro" and the "Unifi UNVR Pro". An aggregation switch is usually a switch to connect other switches or equipment through. * Unifi UDM Pro -> You probably know what this is. It is the brains of the network. * Unifi aggregation switch pro -> This is a switch with all 10G SFP+ ports (and some 25G). You connect this to your UDM Pro. Then this aggregation switch is used to connect to all other network equipment to. I am not sure if it makes sense in this setup. Seeing how there isn't that much more network equipment. But we would need more information to be sure. * Unifi UNVR Pro -> This contains drives to store camera footage (security cameras). * Unifi enterprise 24 PoE switch -> Used to connect all clients to the network (cameras, printers, workstations, access points, etc). * Unifi RPS -> This is a UPS / power supply for all of the equipment.

I just didn't understand the need for an aggregation switch with the shown setup. I understand that it is all about use case but just looking at this I feel like I have more questions than answers lol.

@@notmyname1486 To be honest, I don't understand the need for that aggregation switch either 😀 He probably got it for free from Ubiquiti, that's why he put it in the rack (that is my assumption anyways). He could have gotten away with connecting the "Unifi enterprise 24 PoE switch" with a DAC cable to the UDM and then connect the UNVR to the UDM with a simple CAT6 cable.

Good video, IMO I would have just re-mounted the network in the same room in the same spot on the wall. Use the Rack on wheels for servers..

Well it’s a cold room so I was worried about moisture my plan all along was to have it outside of that room. The wall mount rack I’ll still be using eventually when we finish the basement

Good to know the gear can survive a sharp drop… but I don’t plan on putting this knowledge to use

I don't understand why people use those small racks anyway on the wall, I think they are harder to use.

did you not see how little gear he put in? A 6U rack would have been fine.

Guess you need to learn how to mount a rack to a cement wall. Proper mounting hardware can hold a rack twice the size without issue.

@@frankntekim3730 sometimes creators miss things to be honest I watched the video again I can’t see any out of sync issues 🤷‍♂️ and if that’s “red flags” they can watch other videos lol. I don’t think people realize how much effort it takes to make videos

All these people working hard and not smart by terminating Ethernet by hand. Buy premade cables and save time, and even money…

And how do you pull the plug trough a tube in the wall? Over here it's all brick walls so we buy "preflex" tubes with all kinda wires in them... EL, Coax, UTP, DATA, combo's of them etc... We grind them into the wall and put plaster over them. And then we need to terminate them...
