    When picking vehicles up from the side with a forklift, you can use wood blocks like 2x4 or 4x4 to keep from damaging anything from underneath like the exhaust or driveshaft. Takes about 4 pieces of wood depending. I know because I do this regularly due to my job in import/export loading and unloading vehicles from racks. Picking it up from the front like that, you can use 2" ratchet straps to hold onto the bumper or frame or some other point to the forks and that would have allowed you to pick up the whole truck, without it tilting back like that.

    I guarantee that the frame is bent. Good news is those frames are all cold steel which means it can be massaged back into place without compromising it's strength. Pull slow, add heat to help it move and measure over and over. I would love to be playing with this rig!! I remember when Richard went to sell it, the battery went dead and they were having issues starting it to get it across the block.

  • @ManMountainMetals

    @ManMountainMetals

    4 жыл бұрын

    @@fr_clan.official8938 According to the show, the new owner had brought the truck to GMG to get some minor cosmetic damage fixed. So when they wrecked it their insurance had to pay for it. I'm just wondering why they needed to test drive it on a freeway in the first place. Since the original damage had nothing to do with driveline or suspension you wouldn't think a test drive would have been necessary. As far as this truck being in the background shots, I'll take your word for it. I hadn't noticed.

    My first car in the early eighties was a 66 Chevelle. I was 15-16 bought it off some college chick for $100.00.A drunk driver took the driver side front end out. Froze my ass off in garage disassembling it (I had big plans, but no money) I then asked my stepfather who is probably the smartest person I know if the crushed in frame horn could be repaired he looked at me in disbelief and shook his head "no"., Crushed I called the junk yard the next day to come pick it up and tapped (no not in that way) my Oma for money to buy a much better 67. Seeing this truck reminded me of that time. Good luck with the project as you probably have alot more knowledge and resources then I did then!

The crack in the plaster on the back of the cab is not going to be an easy fix that double wall structure in that area, you might be able to tweak the frame but the amount of hours it would take to fix those 2 items you could get a donor and have perfectly straight in far less time besides 73-80 iirc chevy/ gmc trucks are still around. And fairly easy to come by.

    Frame rails are now 'C' shaped and arched towards the passenger/right side. Open cab/bed gap on driver side and absolutely crushed together on the passenger side. Plus it was smacked a little more from the left versus head on. The right front wheel is offset outward relative to the rear wheel - and those are fat meats. Buuuttt, since you are nearly doing everything yourself, it will just take more time and careful planning than money to make it whole again. Good luck. I subscribed and look foward to viewing your older videos.

    Something incredibly meta about the idea of taking a truck which was built (and wrecked) on a reality show and rebuilding it on a KZread channel.

    Id pull the old frame, cut off behind the damage and graft in a new front section. Looks like the rear of the frame has extensive mods you may not want to redo. I be the front does too, but have to remake it anyways.

    The frame probably isn't as bad as the bodywork makes it look. If the frame was fabricated well when it was built then it should be possible to straighten it, IF the original frame details from when it was built are available. Most of the rest of it is going to be pretty simple, though replicating the original fabrication work that went into building it could be tricky. It shouldn't be too hard a project as long as the frame isn't totally wrecked...

    If your on a "budget" and not gonna spend money like a rapper, than this truck is easily fixable. Two options to start. Put it on a Caroliner /blackhawk bench and get a chain around the left corner of the bumper. Pull it forward and to the left. It will clear the doors a little and square the front within a few inches. It takes tension of all bodypanels. Makes tearing it apart easier. After really tearing it apart you have acces to all bodyparts and really pull it straight. Bed and cab are easily fixable when bed removed. Most important part is getting it pulled straight and level, take your time and measure, measure. After that its a little repairing some dents and mounting parts. Second version you can take it apart, but then you have more trouble measuring and squaring everything up (if less experience). But it all depands on how it all looks constructionwise underneath. I do this for a living, and not one damaged car is the same as the other, even if the damage apears to be the same. To bad i don't live in the usa, or else this would be an awesome thing to help with. A coffee, meal and beer would be enough😄 Good luck and keep us updated...
