Definitely just that section. Doing the entire quarter panel is just adding extra work for no rewards. 😂

The damaged area only needs fixing, no point making it more expensive and would take a lot longer to repair the whole panel. You know exactly what your doing and will do it perfect. I’d be very happy if you fixed my car.

The smaller the section you repair is much more better better than the entire quarter. But it takes a very skilled and professional to do it the right way, just like what you've done. The only way to make it better is if you take it back to the dealer/ manufacture / plant and have them dissemble the entire quarter panel and replace it. Which we ALL know that is something that they will NOT do. Very well done. Impressive craftsmanship Dr. Vladimir.

Just the section made the most sense. Nice work. Really glad you applied the anti-corrosion treatment inside before starting to weld. Just hope you apply anti-corrosion after the welding, before any bondo work. It's a Mercedes!

Good tip that using the strip to cover both sections before welding ..saves any weld blowing through and a much stronger joint.. even stronger than when it came out the factory for sure.

when you’re doing this kind of panel repair it would be great if you pointed out that the outer skin of metal is actually ‘non-structural’. The rockers (sills in the UK) and A B and C pillars are all multi-layers of metal with key parts made from extra strong boron steel for rigidity. When you cut in the repair section the little tabs are often called ‘gussets’. You did a very professional job. If anyone wants to see more major car surgery they should check out Arthur Tussik on KZread . someone’s going to get a sweet Mercedes!

A favor. Could you spend a little time the next time you section a quarter panel going over how to measure, mark, and cut for the replacement piece. I'm always curious how you get it to match up that well. Liking this rebuild so far. Can't wait for the GLE 63 parts to make an appearance.

I think the sectioning is fine...and agree, do the minimal invasive "surgery". How come you did not put weld through primer on the "backing plates" you made on the joints? Shouldn't that bare metal be coated before sealing it all up?
