Rebuilding Allis Chalmers 4 row planter for Branson tractor

Last year was the first year I used this old Allis Chalmers 4 row planter. I had a lot of issues with it, one of them being the seed chutes would clog with dirt if the ground was moist at all. So, instead of spending thousands on a no till drill planter I decided to rebuild most of this Allis Chalmers 4 row planter. Join us today to see the modifications that we made and how easy it was to replace the cutting discs. We used a mig welder to weld on small pieces of steel rebar across the bottom of the seed chute opening. This still left plenty of room for the seeds to come out but should really help reduce the clogging issue, or at least that's what I hope! Guess we'll find out this spring! If the rebar dosent work out for you (and I think it will ) You might try cutting the back edge of the seed chute higher so the dirt dosent get to it and yet the seeds will still be able to drop freely.

Well, with those old planters, those seeds bounce around (before the rebar) and depth and spacing are always messed up to begin with. So I don't think it will get any worse, but if it does I'll cut them off. Hindsight I be the new discs cured most of the issues. thanks

Mapper, I have watched most of your videos, I got a ? For you and I hope you return the answer, I bought a 1943 massey ferguson 2 row planter, I noticed in one of your videos, your planters were planting into your tractor tracks, in your recent videos, the 2 row planter you used looked more on the inside of your tractor, help me out here, did your crops grow okay or did they not and that's why you moved them in, its hard trying to figure out where to put them on my subcompact tractor, the rows are set at 38" which is straight in line of my tires and I'm worried my food plots won't come up, any advice would be much appreciated, Oh, second ? Here's my equipment, small kubota b3300su, pegusas 5 foot tiller, mf #39 2 row planter, brillion cultipacker, here's what I normally do, 1 till, 2 cultipack, 3 spread seed with shoulder spreader, cultipack again, getting ok plots, but I just got the mint condition mf 2 row planter, here's my second ? For you, 1 till, 2 cultipack, 3 2 row planter, 4 cultipack again or is that wrong since I will be using 2 row planter instead of shoulder spreader?
