    i've always wanted to ask a firefighter, when you guys show up to a vehicle on fire, why THE hell do you guys take an axe to a frond hood or a tailgate instead of pressing 1 button and lifting/opening it ? like, it gets you guys off to spend 20 minutes destroying a door/hood when you can press 1 button and open it in 1.5 seconds ? Respectfully

    @NickDrzr Tesla has documents for each of their cars on how to handle a fire in the vehicles. It goes over where all the safety features are, how to disconnect the battery, and what not to do. It's pretty interesting even just as an owner. I recommend reading them. They are more like a one-pager that firefighters can keep in their trucks and pull out.

    @@macabru999 There are thousands of different cars, each having a button or handle in different place. You have no guarantee the button or handle will be working for many reasons. Every time you have to enter any part of your body inside a wrecked car its a risk, its better to take an axe and deal with it.

    @@macabru999 Some bonnet cables or tailgate cables (or electrical connection if electric button) can burn or break in the collision or fire after. You will find a lot of bonnet cables snake from under dash around outside of car under the guard (or inside engine bay next to guard) to the bonnet latch - same if electric solenoid. After 1 fire I had, I was taught to pull the bonnet latch but DO NOT OPEN the bonnet itself. It even worse when the latch hook or puller itself is never in the same place.

    Electricians use "metal" screwdrivers, just your typical chrome molybdenum or chrome vanadium steel, but typically with a VDE certification and tested that the insulation is good to 10,000V and rated for 1000V AC use, but you can typically use what you wish, just don't complete a circuit and you'll be fine 😅

    Retired electrical engineer here. I have experience working around 480VAC 3-Ph & also electronic circuits. The Centech CC300 has no DC Amp measuring capability; it's AC Amps only. The HV orange cables could be AC or DC; the main battery is DC. The motors are AC. Cybertruck battery is 4 x 200V units in series. Switch inside allows switching between parallel and series to optimally charge at 400V and 800V.

    That 48V battery might still be good, and just need a BCM reset. My Model Y couldn't charge the Tesla Li-ion battery is because the 15.5V CATL BCM had disconnected the battery internally (to prevent over discharging). I needed to reset that internal BCM, which required "Power Off" on the Safety screen, then turning the car back on. I did that twice, and the CATL BCM reset, and the 15.5V jump pack was no longer needed. PS, I love that you are doing what other hot rodders are scared to do. EVs can be fast too!

    If it's anything like certain e-bike and scooter battery packs, the BMS/BCM completely isolates the cells from charging and discharging if they get below a certain voltage, I think its a safety/liability thing where seriously discharged cells can overheat and catch fire if you try recharging them (something to do with metal dendrites growing and creating a short circuit inside the cells, don't remember the exact details)

    It is interesting that the footage shows that the Cybertruck turned left into oncoming traffic and then got hit. There does not appear to be traffic mitigation (stop sign, traffic lights, roundabout, etc.), so this seems to have been a preventable accident caused by the Cybertruck. You may want to confirm if that footage was shared with their insurance provider because, if not, posting it here could significantly change any claim payouts they are expecting.

    yeah, like, all alternatives presented are either "keep burning fuels that are killing us" or "electric with extra steps", for example, that british steam turbine electric train? generates steam by burning hydrogen, hydrogen which is separated from oxygen using electric power from the grid, might as well load the train with batteries and use the electric directly any hybrid electric is just electric without the main benefits of electric, and in theory, the cars themselves can supplement the supporting infrastructure, the same battery you put in the car can be buried at a parking space/charging station to act as a buffer for the electrical demand of charging electric vehicles, it can also act as a buffer for the grid in general

    Is there a pyro fuse for the 48v system? Judging by the fact the other battery was dead dead, I'd guess its not getting charged from the HV battery. So you'll probably end up draining your new battery too. For the ribbon cable you could take the cable out at each end and check for continuity of each copper trace, at each end, with a multimeter to make sure its not damaged. PS you can probably revive that other 48v battery (split the case open, and charge each of the cells to 4 to 4.2v volts. You can use a TP4056 with some alligator clips on the wires to clip onto them. It will charge and stop charging automatically. Might take a while to do each cell individually.) Then it might accept a charge from the main battery (once you've sorted the other issues that is). Most battery packs are made up of individual cells, and a battery management system (BMS). If the cell voltage gets too low, the BMS wont allow any charging of the pack no matter what you try. Thats why directly charging the cells individually just to bring them back to an acceptable voltage, will usually please the BMS into turning on / accepting a charge.

  • @rgreerjr

    @rgreerjr

    22 күн бұрын

    They checked the voltage at the battery cable, the vehicle is putting out the voltage needed to charge the 48v battery, the problem was the 48v battery that came with the truck was dead dead and wasn't accepting a charge.

  • @imconsequetau5275

    @imconsequetau5275

    @@rgreerjr Li-Ion cells must be trickle charged once the cell voltage has dropped too low. Maybe the BMS was trickle charging the cells and would not provide an external voltage until it has reconditioned the cells. The battery likely has 12 cells in series and would begin charging at ~37 VDC, and requires up to 51 VDC to reach 100%.
