Fellas. -Fuel leaks can = fire hazard -The jet shooting up vs down is the trim. -Shoot up coming out of the whole and trim it down once “on step” or plane to keep the front end down. -it’s a jet boat. So just like a jet ski, if there is no propulsion you will not have steering/control. - too much bunny hop at speed can either cause a flip over from too much air under bow, or a bow stuff from digging bow in water. Both can be fatal at speeds. Lastly - running that bad/emulsified oil is “one of the” quickest ways to toast that entire engine.

@@mrsestherhouse99 😂. I’ve been a coastal guy most of my adult life and on anything above 40knots in a sea state a properly trimmed boat could be life or death.

Remember fellers, that's a straight-line boat. Going above no wake speed in a turn will get you very wet, as in flip you over. Awesome video guys.

Great build. just a safety note from one speed boater to another. Get a marine kill switch and block cage for the engine. The engine is right behind your back and if the motor goes it will keep the big stuff away from you

I grew up in Seattle and helped building the U-95 Hydroplane, the first jet unlimited Hydroplane. That boat you have is quite dangerous! They quickly transitioned into plane cockpits to protect the drivers from death, from being throne from the boat. Many catch air under the pickle forks and flip, so don't push it please!

They kind of place off the danger. I grew up watching these things, from mini limiteds, even chainsaw motor powered, to the Miss Bud, Rainier, KISW, Oh Boy Oberto.. those things are incredibly dangerous. It’s like playing with a loaded pistol.

Definitely some fun times! My 18' jet boat made lots of memories. Seems I went through 3 engines and Two pumps. I could drive it like a Jetski. Was named the "Intimidator" Yes, I raced other boats. Fun , Fun, Fun!... Be safe guys.

Even in small details they seem to dodge potential issues, as cranking the engine without removing the spark plugs. Not even cleaning the carburetors or a leak down test, to verify the water leak. Even with oil contamination issues, revving the engine back to the trailer.

Been there done that I had a 1979 Eliminator Jet with a 496 cubic inch Chevy all I can say is DON'T underestimate that boat it will hurt you bad

It’s milky because the heads leak under load.. it’s down on power big time and it looks like the back of the boat needs to be strengthened as well. Engine is twisting the stringers.

These guys definitely didn't talk to Mike Finnegan. He wouldn't touch this project with a ten foot pole with the liability of these two.

Be careful with the type of boats. I'm a coast guard veteran and scooped up plenty of people out the water for inexperienced operators. Anything outside of the glass surface is a no go . When it wrecks it basically explodes including you

Back in 1980 my dad bought a 19’ Tahiti jet with a 460 straight out of a ‘74 Lincoln. Aside from jacketed headers, the engine was bone stock and wound up throwing a connecting rod right through the block. Other issues presented themselves and cost us many thousands of dollars to resolve. Still, we had a blast when she did work and your video brought me right back to those days. I hope your boat gives you trouble-free memories. Seems like you’ve lucked out so far!

I normally don't like boats... but this made me smile, big time!

EPIC boat! I would recommend a performance engine shop to tighten up the engine - there's a batch of choices to be made that calls for an engine builder.

The jet nozzle lever adjusts the up/down tilt of the jet output. To start moving fast up to plane you should angle up to get going from a stop, then immediately position the nozzle facing down essentially lifting the rear to reduce drag, creating higher speeds,, and also keeps the boat from porpoising (bow bobbing up and down) obviously if you choose to rooster tail, angle the nozzle up.. but the boat will be slower.. hope that helps

Guys, I have watched you FOREVER. I never comment on your videos, but I feel inspired to tell you, I am from the west coast of California and have seen these boats A Lot at the Colorado River and other places. that hull design is for straight line drag racing ONLY on glassy water conditions. I can't tell you how many of this these flip due to operator error using them outside of those conditions. A sharp turn while hitting a wake, they WILL flip and often come apart and sink engine side down. It is very easy to get seriously hurt because all of the mass is behind and you are traveling very fast. Please talk to the Coast Guard, they know about this hull design and its risks. Good luck

This makes me more nervous than when you two purchased a helicopter. I was so happy when you got rid of the chopper. I’ve seen these boats flip like nothing and fatalities are not uncommon. We call them scorpion drag boats in Australia built in the early 70s very Dangerous boats as the air gets under them and they flip. The ones built now here in Australia have a pod that breaks away and floats so you don't drown. keep up the good work boys and be safe

The past owner may want to keep a low profile about how this item came to be written off in a road trailer accident. A ton of money invested into building a specialty toy with not much demand for such an old impractical hull design... It's worth pretty much what the engine parts are worth -- I mean *were* worth, after this test session.

The tongue of the trailer probably got bent up when the boat went under the back of the vehicle that was towing it. If the tongue of the trailer is on the ground and the boat hit the bumper it would force the front of the boat down and cause the hitch to bend up.

The steam coming out of the headers is a water injection system that keeps the pipes cool so the chrome doesnt discolor.

Just remember Guys, the speed that thrills can also be the speed that kills. Have fun but be safe doing it.

You really should have sealed that fiberglass before putting it in the water. Fiberglass has pours and it will soak in water. Kind of like a water logged piece of wood. Fiberglass will do something similar and act as a sponge.
