Same here, it's a fun challenge for the mechanically inclined. Very easy job to mess up though even when you feel like everything's going great. I'm very by the book with clearances but I know there's so much more to it.

It's a puzzle for sure but not something a good mechanic can't do. I went to transmission school 42 years ago but never got into the field, opting for HVAC as a career instead. I have however rebuilt a few and they all came out better than stock and for 1/4 the cost of what a rebuilt one would have cost me.

Jamal J.H yeah but for how simple it is to fix anyone not willing to put in the time ABSOLUTELY deserves to be charged for their own short comings. As for Herpy's comment mechanic shops will. Transmission Shops with real builders will build it. Why would I spend $2100 on a factory replacement when I can rebuild it for less than $300. And then charge $1000 for labor? Not only does it make more money but it's ALOT quicker too. hey all look start at $2100.

from my knowledge the 4L60E started out as the 700R4, production began in 1982 and lasted until 1991, in 1992 the 4L60E was introduced along with the 4L80E, the 4L60E is mostly used on Gm cars, trucks and vans for the civilian market, the 4L80E was used for heavy duty, GM pickups and Vans made by GM, starting in 2005 GM started replacing the 4L60e and 4L80E with the 6L80 and 6l90E. the last 4l60E's and 4L80's where made in 2013, they where ONLY available on the Chevy express and GMC savanna work vans. that's a full 33 production years.

I believe the 2007 4l60 has a sensor added to the input shaft, you can make it work with a 2003 by just swapping the harness along with the force motor on the valve body. All 4l60e have the same oil circuits on the case, what I would do is swap the valve body and harness and it should work fine.

"Most guys refuse to build transmissions". Really? I've rebuilt a few myself and actually I would rather rebuild a transmission then an engine. Transmissions are only scary until you get involved rebuilding them. They are actually built in sections. And then each section gets installed back in the case in order and really isn't hard to do or scary either. It just looks scary because of the part count. But if you go about it in any type order, you'll see there really isn't much to them. When you rebuild a valve body, as you remove the pistons, plugs, pins, springs, valves, balls and such, you lay them out in the sequence you removed them. And clean the individual parts and lay them back in the same order for reassembly. JMHO
