Rebel Moon Part 2 Review: Worse Than Part 1 (Spoilers)

Ойын-сауық

Zack Snyder needs to hire three people: One to write him better scripts, one to stop him from using so much slow-motion and one to give him a hug after all these bad reviews. Snyder's films are ones I wish I could like, but he makes it so damn hard. "The Scargiver" is an absolutely preposterous mess of a movie.

    I guess Zack Snyder looked at the landscape of contemporary sci-fi and decided that what the world needed was scenes of grain harvesting?

    The harvesting scenes had me very iterated. The had anti-gravity trucks but never developed a harvester? One day of combat training and defensive preparations? Might be the worst thing Ive seen this year, which is sad as I'd hoped this series was going to be good when first announced.

    Unrelated to your video but: Just wanted to say I saw your article on forbes about the current matters with Helldivers and Sony. Don't always agree with your takes but I appreciate you bringing some of these topics to a more "mainstream" audience. I think you are doing good work and the world is a (marginally) better place from your efforts.

    I am still completely confused about how producers handle Snyder. They seem to give him the keys to the kingdom, and then regret his excess after it’s too late to do anything about him. Either you sign up for these self-indulgent 3+ hour epics (which in the streaming era would be fine if you forgo theatrical releases) or he needs people there to push back against him during pre-production and filming. There’s talent there for sure, but a lot of these initially finished projects seem like forcing a square peg into a round hole.

  • @raymondsmith6870
    @raymondsmith6870Ай бұрын

    I don't really understand Zach Snyder on how he picks what projects he wants to do. He is in the enviable position of being in the .00001% of humanity who can choose to make what ever movie he wants and bring it to actual life. This is the best he can do. He could have optioned books like A Fire Upon the Deep or the very strange The Glass Books of the Dream Eaters with it steampunk Victorian setting. NOPE. Have to do a mediocre Star Wars ripoff because we don't have enough of them. What a waste of talent for everyone involved.

    Just started the video, but I'mma make a prediction: SLOW MOTION Dang - within the first minute he says it Zack Snyder does have some talent. But his best films are ones where he's 'working with' another talent. 300 is an adaptation of Frank Miller's great book. Dawn of the Dead - James Gunn wrote the screenplay. Watchmen (arguably the worst of these three, but also probably his third best film) - adapting Alan Moore/Dave Gibbons' book. He needs to do straight adaptations or work with a screenwriter on the level of Gunn, apparently. Nice Iain Banks reference! This channel's got it all

    Yeah this movie for sure goes for the grain harvesting. I started to fast forward the grain harvesting sections since it seemed just like a way to increase the running time of this movie. Also the whole grain plot is insane since in this vast empire spanning universe this one village seems to be the only one to be able to produce grain for the soldiers on broad of a huge spaceship. If this empire is run this badly as far as logistics go its a miracle that they have been able to conquer so much of the galaxy. Also i dont think the korean actress aka the blade woman or the prince spoke at all during the first 30 or maybe even 50 minutes of the runtime of this movie. What is the point in showing a group of heroes and not let them have moments to interact with each other. Also does anyone else find it weird that the farmers are using traditional means for collecting the grain but they use a hovercraft based technology to carry the grain. Also for some weird reason you need horses to pull a hovercraft along. If the hovercraft can hover on its own power I am pretty sure it can also move on its own.

    I must be in the minority. The movie has it's flaws but I really liked it. As far as storytelling goes, very enjoyable after we get passed the exposition. I thought it was clever how she stowed onto the dreadnaught. As far as "Scargiver" goes.... You must have fell asleep. That was the Admiral's whole motivation for revenge. The only part of the film I really had problems with was the air troops showing up out of the blue...I get the French showed up in the American revolution but at least with that, there was a back story and some suspense.

    Both films are a clear example of why you shouldn't let Zack Snyder be a primary writer. Writing is just not his strength. We saw that in Army of the Dead, which was a lazy attempt at 'Aliens, but with zombies'. This was his original pitch to Disney for a Star Wars trilogy and thank god they turned him down. I agree that I liked the first one more, but that film was coming from a very low bar to begin with.
