Rebel 1100 Oil Leak Update (Spoiler Alert: Absolute Nightmare)

Ah yes...the Rebel 1100 oil leak saga continues. I wish I could say it's fixed after the 13 days it just spent in the shop, but it's not. The video should explain everything.
As much as this situation sucks, I want to give a huge THANK YOU to ‪@hondamotorcycles‬ for making the call to "good will" my stator. Hopefully this is a step in the right direction for getting this issue resolved for not only myself, but all current and future Rebel 1100 owners as well. This bike is still my favorite bike I've ever owned and I just want to help all of us Rebel 1100 owners have miles of trouble-free ownership!
As for Pete's Cycle...I don't see myself going back there ever again after this BS, but you guys can make your own judgement call based off the situation. Just sucks because it's where I bought my bike and I've never had an issue there until now.

Bro, great job for not getting duped by these scam artist dealerships. I hate it when these people take advantage of situations like this.

Thanks for documenting and making it public for Honda to notice.

That bike shop just gained a lot of bad PR and word of mouth, hope they feel it was worth it especially coming from a prominent youtuber based nearby. Definitely looking like a recall issue, and you're right, the more people that fix it themselves the less of an issue Honda sees it as, and will continue to ignore it

Sounds like a shop I'd never go back to, if this were me going through this situation. They were 100% trying to nickel and dime you for every cent they could get out of you.

If you didn't catch it, Honda just recalled the smaller Rebels for crankcase oil leaks two weeks ago. In that case they painted a small bit that wasn't supposed to be and it leaked from there.

Thank you for this update. I've been narrowing down which bike to add to my garage for a while now and the Honda Rebel 1100 has consistently been on that list for its low price and expected reliability. Hearing this from you, a person who loves their bike, is definitely altering my list. Thank you, sir.

Yo Burch, master tech of 15 years here. That oil leak is warrantied through Honda because it's a common issue from the factory. It should have ONLY costed you the amount of the oil change. I've done a few of them at my shop. The reason why they are trying to charge you for this, is because shops make very little (if any) money on warranty jobs.

When I first saw you say $939, I thought that would be the entire repair, both sides. But $939 when you could remove that cover and put new Honda bond? Honda needs to do a TSB for this issue to cover the cost for anyone experiencing it.

"OK that sounds well, wish you good weekend" awful way to quickly end a call when you realize you've been caught 😆

“You’re still saving 300$ so I don’t see the issue.” The issue is it’s a bike that is like a year old and has all of 5,000 miles on it.

This is wild... You original plan on using Honda bond was the way to go. My dealer did that and only charged me $90 for the work. $180 for the inspection and $90 for the work (with the oil change). It was a bit much but it wasn't $900+. I guess some people have dealerships, others have STEALERships. Hope it works out bro.

Good job not giving in to that shop. That is 100% some scam stuff. Unless there is evidence of communication between that shop and Honda regarding the good will of the part, I would not be quick to believe it. They easily could have found a cheap or used replacement part and were ready to be duplicitous because the entire conversation you recorded sounds duplicitous. Hopefully Honda does a recall, however, rather than just do a public campaign on your prospective channels, have you guys talked about doing a call in, where you get people together with this problem and you all call into Honda all in the same day. Essentially run a call in lobby with people affected by this. That generally is going to get some big corporate attention.

As someone who use to work as a mechanic at a ford dealer you always incude all things that need to be done in all estimates otherwise you just eat it.

It sucks. I was lucky I found the leak a week before the warranty expired and they fixed. Also, I went ahead and bought the 5 year warranty. Better safe than sorry. I would seal the side cover for now, so you can ride peacefully at the meet. Good luck 👍🏼

Thx for the job to put that in public ! And btw, there is 2 things a rider needs. First a good bike and second a good mechanic / workshop.. one to trust. The other ones we call them *the friendly ones*, are just there to make money on your back. greets !

I just had mine start leaking from the stator wire in the exact same way. Thank you for posting this. It made diagnosing much easier
