Rebel 1100 DCT vs Manual Review - Part 1: Physical Differences & Comparison

Yes, I bought both the Rebel 1100 DCT *and * the Rebel 1100 Manual transmission version motorcycles. Side by side they look like twins, but are they really? This is a review and comparison of the two bikes. The entire review was too long for one video, so I broke it into 3 parts/videos. This video is Part 1 (Comparison - Physical and Specifications). Time breakouts are listed below. Part 2 and Part 3 descriptions are listed at the bottom.
Generic Cruiser Windshield is a Slipstreamer SS-24-C on Amazon:
www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00X7QSHGS/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Here are time breakouts for Part 1:
00:00 Intro
00:52 Differences between the Rebel 1100 DCT vs the Manual transmission
3:38 What is the same between the Rebel 1100 DCT vs the Manual transmission
4:27 Hear the exhaust of both Rebel 1100's
5:41 Walkaround of both bikes
8:08 Final Comments
8:33 Intro / Preview of Part 2 (The Ride) and Part 3 (After Ride Comparison) videos
This is a three part (3 videos) comparison of the 2021 Honda Rebel 1100 DCT vs 2021 Honda Rebel 1100 Manual transmission motorcycles.
PART 1: COMPARISON: PHYSICAL & SPECIFICATIONS (11:20) - Both the differences and the similarities between the two Rebel 1100's are reviewed. I had no idea at the beginning that there are so many differences! Specifications are provided throughout.
PART 2: COMPARISON: THE RIDE (20:03) - Each rider has a mic in their helmet attached to the GoPro, and makes in--ride real time comments as they test ride the two Rebel 1100's (DCT and Manual). A rider cannot hear what the other says. It is completely off the cuff comments. Each rider takes a Rebel 1100 (DCT or Manual), rides it to a halfway point, then switches to the other Rebel 1100 for the ride back. This video is full of comparison comments along the way.
PART 3: COMPARISON: AFTER RIDE REVIEW - Now back after the physical comparison and test rides, the riders are together to give their final thoughts on each bike, the ride, and how the Rebel 1100 DCT and Rebel 1100 Manual version compare to each other.

I am glad you made this 3 part series. As you know I have the 300, but eventually I will want a bigger bike and knowing people's thoughts on the 1100 is just what I want. A big Thank You for doing these.

Thank you! I added a link for the windshield (bought it on Amazon) in the video description. It is a Slipstreamer SS-24-C (Hellfire). Install is quick and easy, and it works great. I have done the quick handlebar only install on 3 bikes (Rebel 500's and the 1100 DCT), and also used the fork mounting brackets on one (1100 Manual after this video). Conclusion: 1100 Manual became unstable at high speeds when the windshield fork brackets were used in conjunction with the handlebar mounts. The 1100 DCT in the video has handlebar mounts only (no fork brackets), and was very, very stable when I pushed it to 98 mph (158 kph). Recommendation: Just use the super quick and easy handlebar mounts and let the bottom part of the windshield move a bit with the wind. That little bit of bottom movement hasn't bothered any of us.

Sal, you mentioned that several friends dropped the 1100 DCT on many occasions? Can you please tell me the circumstances so others can avoid the same mistakes, Thanks!

Absolutely! It was two different riders. One was backing the bike, accidentally hit the throttle with the DCT in 'Drive', the bike jumped forward, the rider got surprised by it, and the bike fell. The rider instinctively grabbed for the clutch, but there was no clutch and it was too late. The other was enjoying the power of the 1100 DCT, pulled over to wait for another rider, went to pull out, hit the throttle, spun out and dropped the bike. Both were in Standard mode, both were used to Manual transmission bikes, so grabbed for a clutch that wasn't there to disengage the engine. Riders just need to be aware that the throttle is a bit snatchy and with no clutch to mitigate on the DCT; if it's in Drive, it will jump when you hit that throttle. It is not a forgiving bike like the Rebel 500. The DCT requires a different train of thought for best performance. I'm learning to drag on the rear brake in lieu of a clutch, remember to push the Neutral button to disengage the engine, and absolutely use the paddles to downshift for curves & turns. I originally thought the paddles were there in case you want to use them. Now I know they are there because you need to use them to ensure the DCT downshifts quickly enough to the proper gear for safety in curves/turns. If you have never ridden a DCT, it has a learning curve for best success.

The windshield is a generic aftermarket from Amazon, "Slip Streamer Hellfire SS-24-C". I have now purchased 4 of them: 2 for Rebel 500's and 2 for Rebel 1100's. Here is the link: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00X7QSHGS/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1. I did make a video when I put it on a Rebel 500: kzread.info/dash/bejne/qKeVlsiImJvSddY.html

There should not be any shift lag. The Rebel pre shifts for the next gear. Just give er more throttle! It clunks because its shifting for 2 gears.

The DCT clunks when shifting more so in Standard riding mode, and only in the lower gears when it's in Sport mode. I have not done a DCT reset yet. That's still on my list. Thanks for commenting.

@@mcSal I've ridden the Africa Twin 1100 DCT with 102 HP, so I am familiar with it. Just tough at 63 in age to get a leg over the height of an Africa Twin with 8" plus inches of suspension travel, it's tall. The Rebel is known as a good first bike, though I've owned several other Honda's before, they were all MX'ers or Dual Sports.
