It’s not news to me that many therapists in private practice struggle to fill their caseload. And yet, I don’t buy into the reasoning I often hear claiming that oversaturation, cost, or other factors are the limiting factor.
Frankly, this mindset disempowers you as a business owner. By assuming the issue is happening outside of you, it creates an environment where you have no choice but to concede to the whims of the environment.
BUT, what if there were options in your reasonable power to fill your caseload? Then you could be empowered to change the situation. But you’d also have to own up to the reality that you have some work to do.
So in today’s video, I’m going to name some possible reasons why your practice isn’t full and offer tools to help you pinpoint where to focus your efforts in order to make change.

Thanks for these reminders. It made me think of one thing I considered doing a couple months ago and forgot about. My practice is building. I am 6 months in and about half way to my big goals.

Loved this video. It's the right time for many counsellors and therapist who might have less effective marketing strategies.

Dr. F. Enjoyed your digital marketing analysis. Yup, at each stage a client can drop off. Taking one funnel at a time. Presentations, good content marketing, old fashion networking one to one marketing. The customer's journey whether from a mobile which is king to a desktop doesn't exist in a bubble. That is why I like marketing and the digital stuff as it applies to therapy. Keep up the good work.

I would love a video just on how you respond to initial client contacts who ask about insurance, and presenting cash-pay.

Great question! I generally encourage potential clients to pursue the option of going through insurance first, and let them know my rates should they decide to work with me. A significant chunk of those folks wind up contacting me later to book, but they're more bought in after discovering for themselves that the insurance option doesn't seem to be the best fit for them. And for those who don't contact me, I assume they found a good fit through insurance, which is ideal! Most importantly, we don't introduce a power dynamic where I'm convincing them into a sale when a counseling relationship thrives when we seek to minimize power differentials. Hope that helps, but I might make a video on that!
