    One of the first reasons listed was being prescribed 4 or more drugs. A number of years ago some organization indicated that doctors shouldn't be prescribing 10+ prescriptions. I would bet nothing has changed.

    They always say to go to a healthcare professional or reach out but the fact is all they want is the money from your insurance and they really do not care about you and that is a really painful fact very few doctors really care

    Humorous for sure.. I'm 73, and had a bout of nearly all night insomnia that lasted nearly a week. I got my primary care doctor to give me a referral to a sleep doctor. Turns out what I got referred to was a psychiatrist, and all he did was proscribe trazodone, which made me sleep, but gave me the most horrible dreams. He switched me over to Seroquel, which, along with an otc melatonin seems to work ok.

    I'm 73. There isn't a comment here I couldn't have made. And It don't seem to be getting better. I don't sleep more than four hours at a time. Mostly not that long. 24 hours without sleep is common. But here I found out that all is normal and that's what important. Sleep is sleep. All at once or catnaps that add up. Sleep when you can, and don't worry about it. At all. Can't sleep, get out of bed, get dressed and depending on the time of day and energy level, go find something to do.none of this sitting around reading, at our age we are smart enough. Day light hours weather permits, play in the garden . Indoors hobby crafts, model cars, etc. The one place this plays hell is how it affects your social life. It's hard to be social when you at nodding off. And at the same time no one wants to do anything at night, and because of light blindness your stuck because you can't drive. Lots and lots of fun.

    Sleep has become my most sought after, but difficult, condition in my my old age (77). I sometimes get as few as 4 hours of sleep in a night, and REM sleep is almost always lacking. Perhaps, as you say, poor sleep can be influenced by depression, but I in my case, I would say poor sleep brings about depression. I would try to get a sleep study done, but how would that work if I can’t sleep?

  • @user-ho4nw5sf3w

    @user-ho4nw5sf3w

    10 ай бұрын

    I believe you are right. " Poor sleep brings about depression." I truly believe that. I'm 73 not that far behind you. My wife told me a while back that I don't have a sleep problem, when I sleep I do just fine, but seldom more than four hours straight. My wife said I have a scheduling problem . Can't sleep at night ? I'm not punching a clock anymore, so I sleep during the day. If that what it takes, that's what it takes.ever sit around and find yourself getting groggy? That's your REM sleep knocking at the door. Grab it and the hell with everything else. Lack of sleep doesn't only affect your mental health, it affects your heart, and not for the good. There are some personal issues that may affect sleep. Digestion, bowel movement, gas. Two we don't think of. Blood pressure. My blood pressure is low, my wife's is about normal. When we go to bed our blood pressure will even out. Hers goes down and she falls asleep, mine rises and I wake up. I try to go to sleep before her ,and it helps. The last thing I'm going to comment on is the big personal. It has to do with our sex lives. I had a healthy sex life but, the key word is had. I know about it, I want it, but my body won't cooperate. We still have all those hormones and chemicals running around in side us and How they affect sleep I don't know, Im not Doctor , but their there doing something. Mostly you have to quit worrying about it. That can cause sleeplessness by it's self. I hope that at least I've given you food for thought. I have no faith in Doctors, so if we are going to solve this problem I think that the answers are here in this comment section among us. After all we don't loose a costumer if we solve a problem. Let me know how it goes and if I've given you food for thought. Anyone reading this, If you have Ideas break them out here. Can't hurt, and might help.

Head injury, concussions, Fibromyalgia, ME/CFS, Emphysema and other health issues, one genetic. I used to sleep less than an hour...maybe 3 of those a night. Now, 7-8 uninterrupted hours. It took me years to get it right. I wish you all well, it's not an easy journey.

    I'm 74 and get great sleep, not perfect, but good sleep. I attribute it to being active (been borderline hyper my whole life) making me physically tired at bedtime. Still, I do get up three or four times every night to pee. I get up quite early, but I do go to bed early so that's not a factor. I weigh the same as I did in high school; I'm not even close to being fat. I also use the generic version of those breathe right nasal strips each night which helps with snoring. One cup of coffee in the morning only, so no caffeine at night. Also, I don't eat a big dinner. If you have trouble sleeping, I'd start by being very actively during the day to make yourself tired. That, I believe, is the most important thing to good sleep.

    Lack of physical activity can obviously cause less tiredness and affect sleep patterns. Also, a need to pee during the night. Physical impairment can be a factor in reduced exercise and also create a degree of discomfort bed. Getting the balance right is very much an individual matter - often trial and error - as I've found, suffering a degree of physical impairment through injury, "aided and abetted" factors met in the ageing process.

I didn’t nap, nor drink coffee and one day I decided I didn’t care about my rituals anymore and I had a cup of coffee at 2 pm. Slept fine. Was it the caffeine that made me sleep? No, of course not.
