Reasons To Stop Worrying (Break The Habit of Excessive Thinking)

There’s a fundamental difference between planning and worrying. Planning is constructive and focuses on our own actions in a conceptual future, while worrying is trying to control the uncontrollable by repeating possible and even unrealistic scenarios over and over again.
Our worries can even consist of fantasies that are totally out of touch with reality. Therefore, as opposed to planning, it’s destructive.
Nevertheless, we keep worrying because, for some reason, we think that this is going to help us in one way or another. Unfortunately, worrying generally does more harm than good. This video lays out reasons to stop worrying.

Im always worrying that im missing something obvious. Like, I got decent, yet annoyingly delayed stats. So being dumb, ugly and awkward for legit 70% of my life and than suddenly having all of those things pull a 180 right as I hit my 20’s. Like. Fuck me. Being dumb ugly and awkward was my excuse. Thats who I am. Now If I chose to rely on that crutch I just feel depressed, anxious and guilty. Those things suck way more than being dumb ugly and awkward. But, its different. It sucks more but, Its self inflicted. Ive been tryna hone in my intuition as a result because, im a sucker for just tryna figure all my problems out by using words in my head alone and, when I realized that I legit cause all my problems, I could only assume I was the cause of that problem as well. And im just assuming changing how I think is probably a good start. Because if am not the cause of my problems, than im fucked. Which would just be dope. But its not true because when I think that I have no control, anxiety, depression, guilt yada yada. Like, normally when you are fucked out of your control, it is in something that you are not aware needs changing. Some Adam and Eve type shit. So you are naked and not afraid. I guess aside from my personal bs, normally worry comes from a problem that you are aware of. And you are worried because you are aware of it and believe you can solve it. Doesn’t mean you can but, proving you are helpless also gets rid of worry all the same. Like, nobody is excited and anxious after their team loses. So like, the good news is you could probably figure out how to worry less about worrying. The bad news is, you are probably not going to worry less aside from worrying less about worrying less. Which you said was the hardest hurdle but, i feel theres some genuine pain in the irony of that. And, I mean, worry sucks but, its kinda helpful sometimes. And learning to use worry as a tool is nice. But you can always beat urself over the head with a hammer. Like, a hammer is a tool as well right? Same sorta deal. Tho, actually, doing so would probably be a dope permanent fix to the problem of worrying, which is kinda fucked up in a poetic way. I guess don’t use a tool as a weapon...on yourself...cuz bad.

But instead, He wants us to live the present moment which is why we can’t change the past, and can’t depict what the future holds. And this some how calmed me. For real. When I meet people who like to engage in higher level thinking, I tell them about my favorite KZread philosopher, tell them how he helped me turn my involuntary isolation/loneliness (mine started a year before Rona) into my conscious decision to live in relative solitude. I am ok with that mindset about 75% of the time, and that is a Christmas miracle. . The video on breakups turned my very deep and chronic depression into acceptance. I’ve been reading Fromms The Art Of Loving which is giving me crazy concepts to try out. I feel like a scientist and the lab is my brain. The only ethical brain to experiment with. Because of one of your videos on the shadow, I have decided to do shadow work to compliment my CBT. My therapist said to use mindfulness when the symptoms of my disorder flare up. All of this was inspired by your videos. I found you because of a search I did on journal writing. Your work is one of the reasons I’m still here. 🤦‍♀️ America’s shitty mental health care isn’t over exaggerated. I told my self at one point that I would try anything but Scientology to heal my brain. I’ve spent more time editing I’m nervous. But I feel you should know that your videos have impacted me in a positive way. And if you ever want an “educated but no degree” American to skype with I am so down 😊 hah! People look at me weird when I talk about the absurdity of unified ethics. But that is better than the protests I hear when I tel them I don’t believe in karma. I’m fun at parties. And r/unpopularopinion on Reddit is a cool place to hang out for a few minutes. But with your voice you could probably recite Beowulf and I wouldn’t fall asleep. So for real hit me up.

Yeah, it may be spying on us but I think it's more of a joint effort from its algorithm and also KZread spying on us. We should be concerned, but if it's promoting to me stuff for me to be a better and caring person in this crazy world, that's still scary, but what can we do? This technology has helped and also destroyed lives. I've heard that Taoist proverb before, and I have found it prompts an essential mindset for liberating yourself from worry. I've found that surrendering judgement and quitting labeling thoughts and events as "good" and "bad", allows harmony to come to the manifest in the mind, and in action

I worry so much that it takes up all my time. I am unable to focus on my studies or stay connected with my friends because of it. I stay sane for the sake of my family, I laugh and converse with them, but they can only help me if I decide to help myself. I can’t stop. It’s horrible. I cry a lot, obsess a lot and even though I have my moments of clarity, they get severely overshadowed by my crazy thoughts over and over again. I struggle with thoughts about my future job, my future family, whether or not will my future spouse cheat on me, will I die of a horrible medical condition or not, will I have to see all my loved ones die before me, whether or not will I achieve stability in life or not, etc. There’s no stopping them. They swarm my head and latch on. I don’t know what to do. Please help, someone 🙏🏻

In my case these episodes come and go depending on the circumstances, but they aren't as bad as they were before going to therapy, and now I know it's a disorder...I used to think that feeling this way was rational; I couldn't see how disproportional my reaction was

Incredible video, I have been suffering from a lot of worrying and anxiety since I know myself, trying to anxiously control the future events etc.. And because of that (sometimes paralysing) worry and fear it's been hard to actually do small, positive actions in the here and now that will actually lead to a better future... But those times when for whatever reason I stopped worrying, it felt like I could breathe again without this heavy weight. Such an eye opening video, I will watch this every week now, thank you for putting this out!

Some people need to worry, planning for the future,is a future promised to anyone,if the future is uncertain, the world didn't end ,a blessing could be curse, and vice Versa, the possibilities and options could be changeable or sabotaged,so why worry,if you couldn't control it,worry about the here and now, attack a problem on a different day ,from a different angle, and events could fall into place, because instant results aren't always possible❌💲✔️

    T. Andrew, In life there are only 2 problems-mind and the body. To feel better reduce negative thoughts and overthinking. Your breathing is closely related to the brain [mind] and gives good relief from stress-anxiety. To relax sit on a chair or lie down, neck straight, eyes closed and observe the sensations of your incoming--outgoing breath at the entrance of the nostrils for 5-10-15 minutes or more. Don’t fight your thoughts. With daily practice the mind will relax. No deep breathing needed. Observe your breath sensations when taking a walk, before sleep, in college, at work, when reading, etc. Like me, make this a lifetime daily habit to have a better life. Reduce negative social media, take morning sunlight walks and avoid constipation as it affects the mind instantly. Best wishes--Counsellor.

I used to overthink everything...it helped me be diligent but it also lead to what I like to call “over editing”; the point where you go through every possible outcome and then do everything in your power to have the perfect solution to handling whatever that is. Problem was, even after coming up with that solution, I’d still be tweaking little things here and there. Whether it was a sales presentation I had to give, a response to a potential client, or even in my personal life hanging out with my family & friends. It was exhausting. Physically and mentally. What helped break the cycle is just making sure things are 85% perfect. Once there, move on. No more thinking about it. That extra 15% is left to the things I cannot control and it’s not my business to know. Most of what we worry about falls into two categories: 1. What we can control 2. What we cannot Being energy efficient and always being mindful of where my time is going has helped me not revert back to old & poor bad habits. Might help you to frame it in a similar fashion as well, to any of you reading. Be better than your thoughts 💪🏼

Precisely by the end of the month I'm going abroad for a practical internship and I can't stop worrying about how it will affect me. I've always been an introvert and now (I'm 23) I'm starting to realize the consequences of it. I'm the typical smart kid who's always been told that he could be whoever he wanted, but never knew what he wanted. I've always taken the easy path, to the point that I have a degree in something a don't really like. Also, I've wasted countless hours playing videogames and being lazy as fuck, becoming an obese who didn't like his body. All of this has resulted in years of self-hate, which could only be coped with permanent daydreaming. I've spent more time inside my head than in the real world. But 1 year ago I started to change. I started working up and taking care of myself, gaining some confidence. I've even managed to transform the inner voice that would despise me to a voice that tries to help me. But I'm far from being fine. I've never approached a girl and, although now my chances of succeeding are much higher, I can't feel any kind of attraction. It's like my mind has not changed. I think my regular daydreaming has distorted the way I feel. I still look cold and vapid. Here is where this month's travel becomes relevant. I'm leaving with a group of people and miraculously I befriended 2 girls. This could only be possible because 1 of the girls is the total opposite of me. Totally expansive, self-centred and overwhelmingly sexual. I don't know the boundaries between us and that has given me anxiety and an urge to undestand her. I was about to tell her but something inside me wanted to keep experimenting. Her passion and freedom has made me reconsider everything. I started to learn about the psychology and philosophy of self-transformation (shout out to Academy of idea) and my creative side is starting to awaken. Somehow I feel like she is the spear that can break my shield. I know she will damage me but I'm fucking tired of taking the easy path. Yet I feel like I'm fooling myself, that this is not the right path and that I'm going to suffer for nothing. On the one hand the internship in something I don't really like that can define my future and on the other hand the girl that has awaken my spark. I feel like I'll be split in half. I don't know. I really don't know. Thanks for reading :)

Great video! I particularly like the part where you break down the dynamics of long term future planning, and staying focused in the moment to work towards those goals.
