I like riding my Cowboy 3. I am overall satisfied. However, paying 2500 EUR (based on the options I chose) for a bike without a kickstand it's really unacceptable. I would fire their designer. What a lack of understanding of customers' needs. Also, I have experienced battery issues but their customer service has been pretty responsive in sending me (twice) a new battery. What I would definitely change is the thickness of the wheels. The bike is light and agile. I like the shape and I found it cool. The producer should think about implementing what the bike is currently missing.

I bought the Cowboy C3, very happy with it! I use it to commute to work every day (40 km in total with slopes) and that works without any problems! Compared to other ebikes, you still have the feeling that you are cycling and not just sitting on a "scooter". At first, I had some doubts about whether it would work with my old Huawei p10 (now 6-7 years old), but everything worked fine. In conclusion, very happy with my purchase :)

The Ursus Mooi kickstand is easy to install with an universal plate. Bought a cheap double kickstand that had an universal plate come with it, only 10 euro. The double kickstan you can throw away (or keep it as extra) the plate fits very well. What else do you need? For the Cowboy 3 i bought the SP connect set (handelbar/stem holder with a mobile phone clamp) and it really sturdy and also fits the look of the bike. The rest of the accesories came with the the bike (extra usb frontlight and usb backlight, reflektors, bell, belt tool, usb cable for the extra front and backlight) The only thing you have to buy as accesory is a pump and a physical lock....and the comment about changing the seat post is nonsens, because every seatpost with the same diameter will fit.

A cheap Decathlon kickstand does the job. Took me 5 minutes to mount it. Van Moof started years earlier, so you can’t compare them. But how on earth can you charge a van Moof when you live in an apartment? Take it up to your 4th floor? But maybe a father of 3 lives in a house with a barn or so to charge the bike. The main criticism counts for both brands, the after sales could be better, although my son’s problem with his Cowboy was solved quickly by sending a mobile Cowboy technician.

Interesting review but flawed in a few key areas. I found this review very personal, the bit about not buying from an entrepreneur whose first business failed is overly principled, most fail several times before learning and improving each time - look at Steve Jobs and Apple! The Cowboy 4 is better designed built and ride than the Van Hoof, I’ve had both. The real USP is the removable battery, that’s a game changer and makes recharging more convenient and renders the bike useless and less nickable. If you thinking of buying one I would highly recommend, mine is an absolute joy and I’ve fallen back in love with cycling. 😊

As I agree with you on some points (especially for the 3 , not so Much for the 4 or 4ST) I think your argument about the team and there previous company is something we could hear but not we can keep against them. You talk a lot about van moof … but in my opinion ( I hesitated between the 2 brands but bought a cowboy ST4) the big problem of the van moof is the battery stuck inside the bike … when it s super easy to take off and put back the battery on the cowboy. Such easy to charge. For the Van moof, you need a garage or a special place with electricity. And if you don’t know the future of cowboy because the bankrupt of their previous company … van moof is no safer (as many young companies) . As for the carbone belt replacing the 100years metal chain… well yes it’s different . It’s new … but it’s like you would say « I prefer a car with a combustion engine … (it’s more than 100y they are making those motor.) instead of a electric motor. So if I agree with you that the cowboy is not a e-bike for everyone … but it’s certainly not just for young men in their early 20ties. I’m in my 50ties and like the bike.

The people in these jobs are working class people, these people can't necersarryly feed their children if they miss 2 months of salary, some of them might get in trouble because they can't pay rent. But all this COULD have been just a unfortunate instance. But the fact that this guy cassually just start up a new business adventure without minding all the people he just let down. And you don't buy a cowboy to add accessories, that's not their market. And you don't recomment a bike because the owner once had a bankrupt business? Waw. Sure you can start it with removing the battery, but good luck doing anything else, like seeing how much battery you have left, change any settings etc. I'm pretty sure no one will be happy if they had to start the bike everytime by first removing the battery and not being able to see how much juice is left while riding. 1. You dont need to order the accecories from a random german man any more right? cant you just order it straight off the website? 2. Spec wise, the 3 has no cockpit, no wireless phone charger, thinner tiers, no options for kickstand and luggage space. The 4 includes all of this as well as more Torque and less exposed wires, generally the 4 looks better and has a better spec. 3. The carbon belt is way lower maintenance to clean, only water is needed, it wont rust, it doesn't need oil and it wont get your trousers greasy. The most high end Ebikes have this for a reason. 4. It takes practice to run a successful business, failure is a normal and healthy step forward to eventually create a business thats successful. The question is how does this product holdup against other brands, not about the CEO's previous attempts. My biggest question with the 4 is; how does is it last. I enjoyed the video, but I honestly don't think those points are strong enough to not buy it. When i compare the market trying to find a bike under €3,000. The majority bikes are either tasteless Fat ebikes, which need constant maintenance, or those nasty ebikes that the grandmas ride. This seems to have all the specs for a high end bike, as well as actually looks good. My only criticism on this bike would be the brand of battery, as usually the best Ebikes have batteries from recognisable electric companies

As per usual, the poor countries supply the raw material for next to nothing (whilst employing the desperate and needy who they can easily exploit) and the corporations benefit. Just investigate any large corporation and you'll eventually stumble across something that you would disagree with. Looks that you know what you are talking about, but when you say you prefer the normal chain than a carbon one in this kind of bikes, is funny. I don’t like to pay more than 2.000€ in the Van Moof and having a plastic cover on the chain as the cheap Chinese bikes. Which one is better, Cowboy or Van Moof...? I think is a no sense discussion. It depends of each person, preferences and styles. In my case, I prefer Cowboy. Less problems with maintenance.

BMW make F800 with belt drive. So I think belt drive on a cycle bike will be just fine and last 30k km or more . It's a non service item and chains have no comparison tbh

Both the VanMoof and Cowboy look spectacular but had to make massive sacrifices with functionality to achieve that goal. They're literally the iPhones of ebikes. While I'd never consider buying either, I still appreciate the excellent aesthetics.

Be careful! If you live in North America, Vanmoof is a scam!! I spent $3,900 $US on a fully decked-out S3 on August 15, 2022. I live in Windsor, Colorado. The bike did not arrive until February 2023, six months after my check was cashed. It came broken and missing parts. It does not shift gears and the motor does not work, never has. It is now April 7, 2023. They can take six months to ship the bike, but you only have two weeks to return it even if it arrives broken and you don’t figure it out because it is the middle of the Colorado winter. Customer service wants to know if I took it to an authorized bike doctor. There isn’t one in Colorado. This company is ill-equipped to sell to North America.

Thank you. The title makes it sound like a negative review, but it's actually quite fair. You mention loads of the advantages this thing has and how good the construction is. The issue with the accessories are obvious just by looking at the thing - No third party accessory is ever gonna fit on that. I expected that and still might have bought it. But the CEO being a dickhead is actually a seriously important point for me. Few things in this world are worse than the kind of vulture capitalist this guy seems to be.

It seems the Van Moof founders spent too much time focusing on design, and not enough on accountancy. Or they were overly optimistic on the numbers they would sell. The company could still be bought and relaunched by new investors.

Had to stop after a minute on this because you haven't done enough research to review this as the comments here show. The extra for the C4 isn't just for wireless charging, the motor is far more powerful and that's just one example.

As a year old Vanmoof user, I would not recommend them. They have rapidly become Cr'Apple only, as their support for Android is so bad, you have to purchase third party mobile apps to really use it and whenever you go into a store, you get the old mechanic sucking sound, the moment you mention Android and you have issues with their product, which always starts, the issues is Android and you should be using Cr'Apple products. My experience and others I know personally, have had issues with wrong parts being supplied, mine even originally came with bad fits for the guards and crappy crank shaft they use, which I had to wait 3 months before they got the parts and then 2 weeks (with no bike or loaner offered) whilst they fitted it. When I got the bike back, the gears were wrecked and grindy, which after a month, they were able to deal with and again, 2 weeks (with no bike) whilst they fixed it 😿 I did test the Cowboy 2 and 3, way back, but their communications was so bad, being pushed to things I do not use (FaceCrap and Twatter), so I gave up with them, until I heard about the '4'. The wireless charger is one reason I do not want it, as I currently use a device (Surface Duo 2) that does not support wireless charging and would fit correctly, but thought I might be able to mod the connections to be a typical USB-C, so I could have the open choice of what I want to charge, such as my mobile devices, Steam Deck, speakers (for group cycling), someone else devices, etc 🔌 Anywho, thanks for sharing your valid thoughts, I'm starting to see most of these random start-up bike brands should be avoided where possible, as they all have a lot downsides, with only the initial costs being low, but you pay far more (not just in money) long term 💸 Happy cycling and stay safe ☮

You should have added all the technical problems these bikes have. Batteries break all the time. People are always lucky because they are in the warranty and get a new one. But nobody is thinking about what is going to happen after that. My cowboy 3 is now out of warranty AND IT ALREADY had a changed battery. Now the torque sensor randomly died and it hast to be fixed. They want 118€ for the sensor and 50€ for the repair. It is ridiculous that a bike has so many problems. I live in Germany and on ebay half of the bikes have technical problems. I cant even enjoy riding the bike because i am afraid the motor or battery dies. I even bought a motor plus wheel on ebay just in case it breaks and my bike has only 3800km. So for everyone that is out of warranty. Hard times are coming. I have a second ebike from 2017 with a bosch motor and a bosch battery. It has 13.000km and it did not even had ONE single problem. I only changed the chain twice for like 20€ each. There is the big quality difference of a cheap startup and a manufacturer that does electronics for a long time.

VanMoof is terrible. I have one and I do not recommend it. The main reasons are: support/maintenance takes ages (an example: If you ask them a simple question via EMAIL they will answer you in ~1-2month(s)), the hardware/software sucks - it never connects properly, and the connection keeps dropping. Result: My bike does not connect anymore, lights are blinking (on auto mode forever). The bike is beautiful (VanMoof, Veloretti or Cowboy), but they need to improve A LOT their support + connectivity. And..of course: They have proprietary pieces (cannot buy anywhere else).

This is very clearly a Cowboy slam piece. Unfortunately, it became that around the five minute mark when you started talking about reputation of owners instead of just the quality of the bike. Be careful who you listen to.
