That "springs on legs" stage of kittenhood. A kleenex box with one end opened up. We laughed so hard at those two and their kleenex boxes with one end open. Scrawny kitten arms reaching out the hole as far as possible, searching for a sibling to goose. Oh, my golly, those two were fun!

Cats are much smarter than many people think. One of my cats, Leif, was extemely intelligent and understood using humor to cheer me up. When my eldest cat died, I was crying. Leif came to sit in front of me and stared into my eyes to be sure I was paying attention. He then started to chase his tail. He went all out, jumping around and turning somersaults. He was not a kitten at this point or very physically active. He was generally pretty lazy and this wasn't his usual behavior at all. It was for me. He looked so silly that I had to start laughing. As soon as I laughed, he stopped and lay down next to me, purring. And this wasn't a one time situation. He always did goofy things when I was upset, until he got me out of my funk.

Our last two were brother and sister. We laughed every day! Me, son and two knuckleheaded cats. So completely different from each other in all but their markings and their crooked tails. Such a big part of our little family. I've had the awesomest cats in my lifetime. It's all in the respect you give them. So richly rewarded for it! My dad and son were both cat whisperers. They could eventually get every skittish cat in the neighborhood to come to them for attention. Like I said, it's all in the respect shown. Two of the finest men I've ever known.

I used to think it would be fun to have a really smart cat. I had one that could open about anything. She'd get into all my food cupboards and even tear open pasta. This was decades ago when those melamine cupboards w/ the oak trim were trendy, so I thought that would slow her down, no handles on them. She figured them out though. I had an old dresser w/ stiff wooden drawers. She'd open the bottom one enough to get the middle one open. Then get that open enough to stand on it to open the top one. It would take her all night to finesse them, just so she could sleep in my underwear drawer on top (where I least wanted her). Darn cat, couldn't keep her out of anything.

I have 2 cats: 1 gigantic female and a little tiny female kitten. I found that in order for my cats not to steal my food, I cut a very small amount of what I am eating (wiped clean of herbs and spices that are dangerous to cats) and set it on the floor so I can eat calmly and quietly, without little paws pawing at my food. Also, I stopped my cats from trying to grab all sorts of electrical wires by SHOUTING VERY LOUDLY "NO" or using a loud "UH UH", no matter what, just as long as it is LOUD. Lastly, I do not have shelves with small nit nacks. I bought a glass enclosed case from IKEA, With a door in which I have my nit nacks and other items that I treasure - and the cats can't get into it. In other words, I cat proofed my home so nothing falls on the floor. I do not have "OCD" nor am I a cleaning freak, but I value my things which remind of earlier times and which I don't want broken. That is why I have trouble with these videos of cats dropping glasses off the counters; climbing on shelves where nick nacks are kept, etc. Also, no curtains. I have cats, and I also do not want my breakables broken.

Have 2 kittens, thought I catproofed the house. My mistake. Now lampshades are all off. Plants are destroyed (normal), toilet paper is hidden (normal), but I fear for the television set. If it exists in your home (including your body) then it is a cat toy. Very hard to keep them alive and they need lots of supervision. If you have an adult cat with kittens they do a lot of the work. I put one in time out in the bathroom when they get too crazy. The cat video game on my electronic device used to work as a distraction but they have short attention spans. It takes 2 years to become an adult cat and I hope we make it.

If he couldn't reach the dish he'd yowl begging until you gave some. One day he caught a jalapeño pepper instead, oops. 1st chomp resulted in a loud yowl that rivaled a siren, ran to his water dish and rammed his head into the water. 1:35 like Loonie Girlie did during her lifetime. That's why I always fast emptied my shopping bags. She was too curious and had to put her furry friend in her pockets. This curiosity and naughtiness had been inherited from my husband. Loonie was also tabby and also had a healthy appetite. Due to age and severe illness, I had to let Loonie cross the Rainbow Bridge. It was the worst decision I had to make. But the scene brought back my memory and made me laugh about it. Just like back then in our kitchen. 😺😺😸😸😼😼😻😻

Back from groceries, cold stuff stowed and out the door for sports practice. Come home to bread sacks well punctured. A new package of socks waiting for a wash before wearing. Punctured package. Something about piercing thru the plastic film to the soft underneath--instincts of piercing the necks of prey? It felt good to them. Molly had to stick her head in every single bag that came into the house. Murphy was more interested in the empty bags. They helped me wrap Christmas packages for 15 years. I'd pull their perch over to the kitchen table so they could keep an eye on everything. Every box sat in. Every sweatpant leg traveled. Every ribbon chased.

There is a technique that you apply everytime the cats behaviour is unacceptable. This also works with dogs to a lesser extent. It requires a while depending if you have a smart or stupid cat. Trust me on this I have been the proud mom or many stupid ones and even a few smart ones. And yes I am that old cat lady lol. It is relatively inexpensive and the best bang for my buck i have found. So what you do is make a mixture of tap water and white vinegar. 3/4 water 1/4 white vinegar. You are going to need a bit of paper towel or a small rag. Dampen the cloth with the mixture. Then just rub it over a cable you want the cat to leave alone, a piece of furnishing it wants to scratch, etc. With larger areas you want the cat to stay out of simply do a rinse after mopping the floor. let dry and your done. As for the social behaviour such as attacking people and being overly aggressive (you have to let cats be cats but you HAVE to set boundys) This is my favorite bit lol. Acquire a small cheap water pistol (super soakers are a very bad idea) and every time the cat misbehaves spray it, not excessively but the water and vinegar are harmless to the cat also the sooner you start the process once the cat has adopted you. the faster and easier it is. Oh one last thing from experience know what is behind or under the cat before you spray it. Lets not have any electronic collateral damage. lol

My big orange Tabby has never been destructive or annoying. He jumps on all the furniture, but tiptoes around everything. He's never touched a roll of t-paper or knocked anything breakable off a counter. He;s very affectiuonate, though, and does wake me if I over sleep.
