The wall of the Western Wall is the structure that survived from the Temple, the upper part is the Temple Mount, the Jewish Temple.

The Qibla (direction of prayer) was changed because the heart of Prophet Muhammad PBUH was inclined towards Makkah and he liked looking towards its direction after he migrated to Madinah. Allah mentions about this in the second chapter of the Quran that He has heard the prayer of his Prophet PBUH and the ruling was decreed to change the direction of the prayer. There is also a Masjid which is famous for having two qiblas. It is called Masjid al-Qiblatayn. It is situated in Madinah.

Hi Vishnu. As you asked about the Qibla [direction ] change.. Initially Prophet Muhammad (s) used to pray facing towards Al-Aqsa masjid [Temple Mount] for a few years, but later Allah, in His divine wisdom, commanded Prophet Muhammad (s) and the Muslims to change their Qibla towards Kaaba [Makkah]. And all this is mentioned in Quran. By the way, Kaaba is the first/ oldest Qibla built by first Prophet Adam, and later after few thousands of years, it was rebuilt by Prophet ibraheem at the same place [Makkah].

The reason why the Qibla was changed was because of Prophet Muhammad peace be upon Him. When the Prophet was still in Makkah, he always stood south of the Ka'bah while in his prayers so that he could face both the Ka'bah (which was built by prophet Ibrahim A.S and prophet Ismail A.S 5000 years ago) and the Al-Aqsa Mosque.

On the 14th of April *70AD* (Three days before the beginning of Passover) Titus Vespasianus Augustus and his Roman army laid siege to Jerusalem. The siege lasted 4 months, ending on Tish B'Av with the looting and destruction of the *Second Temple.* By September 8th, the conquest of the Jewish Capital was complete, with the spoils of war being carried off to Rome (The *Arch of Titus,* built in Rome to celebrate the sacking of Jerusalem and defeat of the Jews, can be seen to this day) In the attached meme, the Roman historian Publius Cornelius Tacitus described at the time both *Judea* and *Jerusalem* immediately prior to the siege. There was of course no Al Quds, no Al Aqsa Mosque and no Dome of the Rock - this was *600 years before* the birth of Islam and the Muslim attack on and occupation of Jerusalem. There were only Jews defending their city, their land and their heritage. So much has changed in 2,000 years, and yet, in many ways, nothing has changed. The direction for praying namaz changed from Jerusalem to Mecca because before the last prophet of Islam Muhammad (SM) pbuh , Muslim used to follow the teachings of Ibrahim(AS) pbuh and His teaching were encrypted in the holy book before Quran where Muslims Qibla or direction was Jerusalem stated , but after the last prophecy of Islam teachings got updated to Quran where the direction of Muslim prayers was stated which is Mecca.💯

13:34 Actually the exact reason was, the Mecca was a holy place to the Arabs that time. In the early days of Islam, by Allah's command, he prayed facing the Al-Aqsa Mosque. But Muhammad's wish and desire was to pray facing the Kaaba. So when he was in Makkah he used to stand parallel in prayer as if facing the Kaaba and Masjid Aqsa. But when the Muslims migrated to Madinah , there was no more opportunity to place the Kaaba in Al-Aqsa while praying. Because Madinah was located north of Makkah. Jerusalem is located north of Madinah. As a result, there was no opportunity for Muhammad to turn towards Mecca during the prayer. Kaaba is also the first man-made house in the history of the world. [3] Muhammad was very upset because of this. He always felt that he could not honor this first house of God built by Abraham. Because of this feeling, he did not pray to Allah to change the Qiblah. But when it was difficult not being able to pray facing Mecca, he would look at the sky. As a result, the year after the Hijrah in Madinah, Allah revealed the verse to Muhammad ordering the change of Qibla. [ Reference google.

Praise be to Allah. When the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) came from Makkah to Madeenah, he used to face Bayt al-Maqdis when he prayed, and that remained the case for sixteen or seventeen months, as is proven in the two Saheehs (al-Bukhaari and Muslim), in the hadeeth of al-Baraa ibn Aazib (may Allaah be pleased with him and his father), who said: The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) prayed towards Bayt al-Maqdis for sixteen or seventeen months, and he was hoping that the Qiblah would be towards the House (i.e., the Kabah) Then after that Allaah commanded him to face the direction of the Kabah (the Sacred House), in the aayah (interpretation of the meaning): so turn your face in the direction of al-Masjid al-Haraam (at Makkah). And wheresoever you people are, turn your faces (in prayer) in that direction [al-Baqarah 2:144]. Before we answer the question about the wisdom behind this change, we must note the following points: When we Muslims hear of a command from Allaah, we must accept it and submit to it, even if the wisdom behind it is not clear to us, as Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning): It is not for a believer, man or woman, when Allaah and His Messenger have decreed a matter, that they should have any option in their decision [al-Ahzaab 33:36] Allaah, may He be glorified and exalted, does not give any command without there being great wisdom behind it even if we do not understand it as He says (interpretation of the meaning): That is the judgement of Allaah. He judges between you. And Allaah is All-Knowing, All-Wise. [al-Mumtahinah 60:10] Allaah, may He be glorified and exalted, does not abrogate any rule except to replace it with something better or similar to it, as He says (interpretation of the meaning): Whatever Verse (revelation) do We abrogate or cause to be forgotten, We bring a better one or similar to it. Know you not that Allaah is able to do all things? [al-Baqarah 2:106] Having understood this, we may note that the wisdom behind the changing of the Qiblah has several aspects, including: Also, they need to determine whether the monotheistic Jews and Christians will follow the messenger or whether they will follow their previous sacred scriptures. So it was the test for the Jews and Christians to accept the Prophet Muhammed SAW as many jews and Christians scholars accepted Islam by seeing the sign of prophethood according to their holy books. It is a test for the true believer, because the true believer, unlike others, accepts the commands of Allaah. Allaah has spoken of this in the Quraan (interpretation of the meaning): And We made the Qiblah which you used to face, only to test those who followed the Messenger from those who would turn on their heels. Indeed it was great (heavy) except for those whom Allaah guided [al-Baqarah 2:143] This ummah is the best of nations, as Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning): You are the best of peoples ever raised up for mankind [Aal Imraan 3:110]. Confirming the aayat about the Qiblah, Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning): Thus We have made of you (true Muslims) a Wasat (just) (and the best) nation [al-Baqarah 2:143]. Wasat conveys meanings of justice and of being chosen. So Allaah has chosen for this ummah goodness in all things and the best commands and rules, and thus He chose for them the Qiblah of Ibraaheem, upon whom be peace. Imaam Ahmad reported in his Musnad (6/134-135) from Aaishah that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said about the People of the Book (Jews and Christians): They do not envy us for anything as much as they envy us for Yawm al-Jumuah (Friday), to which Allaah has guided us and from which they have gone astray, and for the Qiblah to which Allaah has guided us and from which they have gone astray, and for our saying Aameen behind the imaam.

However, after the revelation of verse 144 of Surah Al-Baqarah in the 2nd Hijri year, the Qiblah was changed to the Kaaba in Mecca. Ayat= . (O Prophet!) We are seeing your face repeatedly rising towards the sky. Therefore, We will definitely turn your face to the Qibla that you like. (93) Now turn your face towards Masjid Haram. And (in the future) wherever you are, turn your faces towards Him (while praying). And those who have been given the Book know very well that this is the truth that has come from their Lord. (94) And Allah is not unaware of what they are doing.
