    @@Mysterious.Entity Well they could if they were actually trying to kill one another. Polearms were used specifically because even the greatest helmet and armor isn't going to completely stop the concussive blows from heavier weapons. You hit someone in the head enough times, even with a helmet on it's going to have unpleasant results for the victim. Hell you manage to get a good strike at the clavicle (that juncture between the neck and shoulder that's typically protected by mail rather than plate so as to allow for flexibility) and you could break it - broken clavicle means they drop their weapon and the fight's over.

    I love how primal these look. When they get stuck together, they look like mule deer locking antlers pushing and flexing. The kicks and punchs haveing not been born from any form or technique, more so thrown to see what they will do. Once they fall to the ground and he drops his glove to reach for his dagger, it reminds me of hockey how the players drop gloves to bare knuckle box out pure emotion. These fights feel real and charged with emtion, like two rivals clashing opposed to athletes competing.

    Ive been training a few different martial arts and noticed a lot of the movements they were using when they were locked together was similar to techniques you'd find in judo and muay thai. Can you imagine doing either of those disciplines in a full plate of armor?

    @@cfbanHis form was perfect foe this situation. You have to remember there are new leverage points from given that they locked eachothers weapons up. You have a lot more ability to throw someone die to having the weapon to pull/push on than having to grab some part of their body

  • @cfban

    @cfban

    5 ай бұрын

    @@GunShocka I still disagree. During the throw, his left arm is left behind, which makes his leverage much weaker independently on whether he is pushing his opponent's chest, neck, arm or polearm. His left arm should be aligned with his shoulder and torso, regardless of where the leverage point is. This is a common mistake by people who are not experienced in throws. He's also making a left-handed throw. Maybe he is experienced but right-handed. Even experienced right-handed people struggle with left-handed throws sometimes.

  • @GunShocka

    @GunShocka

    5 ай бұрын

    @@cfban I think you missed the part that they have their weapons locked. His left arm stayed in the lock to guarentee that his opponent cannot free his weapon. Also this throw is perfect for HEMA cause you are thinking of a throw from the perspective of fighting as using a throw as a main form of comabat. Most HEMA throws are done in a way that look incomplete since they are worried about a weapon. He ensured the weapon stayed locked until he got him to the ground where it would be virtually rendered useless. I am familiar with throws but i also am familiar with using leverage of a staff to throw people and if you are trying to prevent the use of one you have to modify it a bit. Throw in hot and weighty armor and you arent gonna be doing throws textbook. Hence, why i say his throw was perfect for this exact circumstance

    Especially in life or death situations. Humans are naturally grapplers, our hands and muscles are designed to help us hold stuff for long periods of time very tightly. Sure we can get good at throwing punches and kicks but our biology really shines when it comes to grappling. Something even untrained people do instinctively in fights is to try and restrain the opponent by grabbing their arms or legs while trying to push them over, its instinctual and highly effective against people who might not know how to slip or reverse.

You got a thousand 1v1 fights happening where it is almost guaranteed that half of those will lose their lives that day. There is no "ah I lost this one, so I'll come back since I know how to beat him now" - it was just one chance, every time. It's almost surreal to imagine

    Imagine being utterly exhausted, rolling around in a shiny refrigerator suit, and needing to find joints to hack at in order to kill the other guy who's equally smoked and trying to hack at you. But drone pilots have PTSD

    Bad youtube, first the algorithm presents me these, I clearly like it given by how often I clicked on them and then it suddenly stopped and I had no idea how to find it again. But HERE I AM

    Damn, polearm fights are absolutely brutal. I cant imagine how much it hurts to get hit with that axe head against someone who wants to kill you. Even with full plate.

    This seems so realistic and terrifying! Pulling out the dagger at the end illustrates a desperate struggle. I thank heaven that I don't have to fight for my life like this. Also, there seemed to be a few modern-style MMA/judo-type moves, like the knee to the chest and the leg sweep takedown. This was intense!

    I don’t know what your vibe is when you guys are fighting, or the atmosphere you two have between you, but what you’re creating with the minimal dialogue and the ambiance is something special.
