RealHula presents Aia La O Pele
Ойын-сауық
Pikake dances the hula kahiko number "Aia La O Pele" for the goddess of the volcano, Pele. The chant is by Pattye Kealohalani Wright, known as Kumu Kea in the RealHula video teaching series. Hula kahiko refers to the old style of hula danced to chants and to percussion instruments.

I love the FIERY red of the fabric
I see an amazing kahiko performance done to an authentic chant. The dress is still in a kahiko style but modern fabric who cares really?. This is a really beautiful Kahiko performance by this talented dancer. This is one of the core chants/dance of the Hawaiians that was saved when the culture was nearly decimated. I am stunned by this dancers talent and beauty!

Dance and expressing your self is important in lots of cultures all over the world.
I took Hula lessons as a kid and the adult class would always do this dance. It was always my favorite.
So powerful--I love how rooted in the earth this dance is.
this is the most beautiful hula performance I have ever seen. Thank you for sharing this. And the singing is beautiful too!
I wanna dance like her!
it's amazing- I've been learning afro dance and now when I watch the hula dance- there are many, many similar moves.
Hula looks so easy from the waist up, but I tried to mimic hula and WOW that's a lot of work on your legs
Mahalo for this song, this is very beautifull and Awesome !

Truly beautiful, Mahalo
Mateus

The Fires of Pele.
Costumes these days can be more stylized, but that's not something ou'd wear to a prom, it's a gorified version of a usual kahiko-style attire.
Wai ou Kumu?!

That's how i learned to dance it just saying

"glorified kahiko"???? lol I don't think frank hewitt or keola ching or charles ka'upu would ever approve a "glorified kahiko" dress like that. and since when did you add style to kahiko??? I could understand an auana but a kahiko??? Most kahiko is considered ceremonial and religious and performed on temple platforms in respect to the gods. style has nothing to do with it's meaning or purpose. Sorry but i highly disagree.
