they are indeed adjusted properly, the screw is loose enough to let the BOV open but not too tight to where it cant open and cause flutter

@@ddinoboy it makes the tradmark “sight whistle” sound on my boosted Honda but on my DSM at 30psi I feel like I’m pushing it to it’s limits, most of the people on KZread you hear are running around 15psi, making it “whistle”, I feel like at 30psi it’s forcing the air out so fast it doesn’t have the airflow needed to make the typical type s sound

It's definitely not tuned for the whistle. You have to loosten the top screw, let it out and it will whistle. There are several big turbo builds which the iconic whistle present. You eliminate the whistle by screwing too far down.

Probably performance difference under high boost. I did tial knockoffs like 5 years ago and it was good on low boost but on high boost, they were bad. Boost spikes, inconsistencies in opening and closing etc

It's not about the sound, it's about what it does or what it's supposed to do. A proper blow off valve takes the load (excess energy) from the turbo and dumps it so it doesn't damage and put too much pressure on the turbo. It also makes it sound awesome 🔥 The fake one just makes it sound awesome, but your turbo won't last long.. probably 🤷🏾‍♂️

I believe NGR bought the rights from Greddy and made it more durable with a silicone diaphragm and adjustment screw that doesn't strip like the original .I have the NGR Type S and love it. It will whoosh and whistle or just whoosh depending on how its adjusted. Bought mine used for $80 and zero problems in 3 years running up to 20 lbs boost.

the fake is engaging too slowly and is not flowing enough air to keep up with the boost in this build. that is why you can hear more of a hiss on the second one and more of a “pish” type sound on the first. to be fair even the name brand valve is underpowered but much less so than the knockoff.

turbo flutter on an ssqv? a bovs entire purpose is to prevent flutter, so somethings wrong there.

Hey that’s the blow off valve I use (cheap one) It’s claimed two turbos but thats cuz I was too lazy to see what was wrong. It was completely blocked off since I got it and I had to take it apart and reconstruct it. Works perfect now

Bypass valves and blowoff valves are two of the same but different obv you can like tune blowoffs

Had the type S for about 7 years and 100k miles. I missed that sound so much. Man was I disappointed when it wasn’t there.

I have a hks one and that one sounds amazing. Always loud even at low boost or barely boost you can stil hear it very nicely

That full throttle demo was impressive

Not me immediately recognizing the knock off as I just put it in my eclipse…. I got mine in some kit so I can’t even complain sound for sound

The flutter is compressor surge. My k04 gti makes it because it doesn’t have a bov. They use a diverter valve instead

They don’t sound different, reliability/longevity is the difference

They sound roughly similar to each other, but I can definitely tell which one is the fake one versus the real one when you show them together

The 250 sounds more in tone to the car but the 30$ still did a pretty decent job

I haven't seen an eclipse for some years, last one I saw was at a junkyard and I went back to buy it and somebody was already loading it up

If you adjust that real one right, it will whistle like the eclipse in the fast and the furious.

Gotta be more specific bc technically they're both "Real" BOVs . One is a name brand Greddy valve and the other is a "Knockoff" brand that basically sounds the same, but what is t discussed is the performance and THATS what is more important. If you think a BOV is for making a sound then you deserve to get ripped off. BOVs serve a purpose. They prevent compressor surge, and when you're making power, it's important to make sure the turbo is flowing good.

I had a greddy type S on my mr2 years ago and I remember it be louder and higher pitched. I might’ve had more boost pressure tho

All of em work the same in my opinion, some are designed to be super loud but this is the style most people use, as long as they dont break its fine no need for a super expensive one. Pretty hard to break a blow off valve.

They both sound good. Take it apart and show us the spring inside it thats the important part.

Here's the thing though BOVs aren't a cosmetic to most people which is why the $30 one is better for most as it's works the same

They sound pretty freaking close in fact the cheaper one is louder and more clear

When you find out you just have a bad spring or vacuum leak and they don’t change sounds regardless

The one that does the same job for less is more intriguing in my opinion it doesn’t sound like a difference much

Those purple knockoffs are great paper weights. They all cause bad vacuum/boost leaks.

It’s all in the spring.

Right? The cheaper prob isn't as efficient, so you may want to go bigger than you'd think, and it may not last as long, but when you can get 8 of them with change instead of a brand name decal, there's really only one choice

Don’t disrespect the eclipse my man they are great cars. They came With one of the best 4cyl turbo engine ever developed. Could use some paint but it’s a over 20 year old car the paint won’t be perfect.
