Lmfao that henry ford quote is spot on though. "if I asked people what they wanted, they would have said a faster horse." We can't rely on the masses for innovation, innovation comes from great minds, another reason we should be spending tax money on education instead of wars.

+Andrew the Celt It was an ideal quote for making a point about technological progress. Yes, Ford was a proactive anti-semite (although I REALLY doubt that even he would have advocated genocide), but that has nothing to do with the fact that he ranks among the greatest innovators. BTW, he probably didn't make the "faster horse" statement, either, but his opinion about automobiles is nevertheless worth examining.

+David Bergin Well, there's this guy by the name of Rand Paul. You might remember him as the sensible guy who had a reasonable answer for every question at the CNN debate. But his polling numbers are horrible because Trump calls him short. Woo, yay America!

+David Bergin I'm an Independent who used to be a Democrat but never a Republican and I completely agree with your statement. I would love to see the FDR Republicans return to the Senate and House and be the caring party they once were. This political atmosphere we've had for some time is just volatile and so polarized that it's literally dividing this country. This needs to end.

+David Bergin You hit the nail on the head! It's a sad time, the Republicans are now in a position where the have to be crazier than their opponent. I'm not surprised that the more offensive the always offensive Trump becomes, the more the Republicans love him. The only thing scarier than having that talking scrotum for President is having Palin for President. And judging by how low the bar is set, it wouldn't shock me if she decided to run again, with Michelle Bachman or Kim Davis as her running mate. It seems like in the last 35 years the Democrats have sadly moved to the right, and the Republicans have moved to a mental hospital. I've lived in Vermont & have family there, Bernie Sanders has been around for decades, and has a long record of making sane decisions, not backing down & having zero tolerance for bullshit. So I would love to see him in the oval office, but you know a Democrat or Republican will always win. There are many things I love about this country, but the things that are wrong with it are beyond repair. Having a poorly educated population that gorges on junky food, prescription drugs, guns, murder, racism & Fox News alerts is humiliating. You add the insanity of adults who believe in fairy tales like the bible & Noah's Ark and deny global warming....what's next? And if you dare say anything critical about the US, conservatives act like you just killed their dog. The whole point of a Democracy is to point out the problems & fix them. I'm just glad I'm moving back to Australia, which of course has it's own problems like every country. It's just that compared to the US, it's a bastion of sanity.

A comment from George Takei's page. on the kid's clock. I said: it's sad they thought that kid had a bomb. She said: they didn't think he had a bomb. I said: yes, they thought he made a bomb and even called the police. She said: They just wanted to humiliate a little Muslim, African boy. They didn't think he had a bomb. I said: Don't be a conspiracist. They might be a little prejudiced, but I'm sure they thought he had a bomb. She said: Ok. But they didn't evacuate the school, like you do when there's a bomb. They didn't call a bomb squad - like you do when there's a bomb They didn't get as far away from him as possible - like you do when there's a bomb. Then they put him and the clock in an office- not like you do when there's a bomb Then they waited with him for the police to arrive. Then they put the clock in the same car as the police. Then they took pictures of it. I said: Damn They never thought he had a bomb

+OkItsOurTube I suppose English being his second language can be a bit of a drawback in some instances. That, and maybe this format(with Maher) being one that he is barely getting used to, at least as far as English-speaking goes. In Spanish-speaking debates you can see how he is much more spontaneous, comparatively. I think it's all a matter of him doing it more and more as possible until counter-attacking becomes much more second-nature in these types of debates. So far, I think he's improved in each subsequent interview-debate with O'Reilly and Hannity.

Is it just me, or was Jorge Ramos treated almost the same way on the show as he was in Trump's press conference? He couldn't explain his point without the others jumping down his throat. Isn't the media incredibly powerful when it comes to distracting us, or fear-mongering? Is Jorge wrong to say that journalists didn't do enough? Speaking of fear-mongering, Bill is doing a good job at that when it comes to Islam.

+robinsss I agree. But as a Mexican/American who has lived in both countries, I'd say what American culture? In Mexico, we watch movies, we are consumers and plenty are fat too. We got people that love greed too.. is that the culture you mean? or is it the love for guns and war? I'm curious. Bill is right that at least we don't want a theocracy (even though we have a lot of Catholics). I think Mexican culture is about enjoying the simple things like food, music, friendships/family, sense of humor, and I will say that maybe we have a better relationship with mother nature. We let animals roam free. We definitely take it a bit slower than gringos. We relax more. We grow more of our own food too. In the USA I noticed a lot of people think being "busy" all the time equals being happy. I'd describe it as lust for money or to succeed. They don't appreciate the simple things. There are exceptions of course, but they are few. It's like nobody trusts each other in the USA too. It's hard to want to assimilate in that culture when you are always seen as an outsider even though many of us Mexicans are from the southwest.

+gernm18 the Mexicans in my neighborhood are not as respectful as you describe.... its more like a Latino version of deliverance... and non of the positive aspects you point out are not true in my hood... maybe it's like that where you live, but not in Norwalk, Ca.

gernm18 some big differences between the cultures are Hispanics won't frequent venues that whites go to ( clubs , restaurants, etc ) won't date outside of the Hispanic community are more conservative overall than whites Hispanics seem content to stay within their own culture rather than venture out and explore other cultures

+Tariq Brown Islam is a vile bronze age set of lies and nonsense to manipulate the gullible for personal gain of the clerics and the ones in power, as is Christianity and every other religion. You really can't compare that to the journalistic code, which surely hasn't the same poisoning effect on minds. Of course there are tons of good muslim people and Bill has admitted that time and again, but they are good people despite of their religion. Have you read any of the vile stuff in the Quoran? It literally says kill atheists and apostats. Islam is indefensible and Bill is attacking it rightfully and anyone who takes that garbage literally. The world would be much better of without any religion. They all claim to know the one holy truth while there is no evidence or reason for any of it and they have nothing to show for.

Tariq Brown True, the Bible is the same, but you have to admit that Christian fundamentalism on the scale of Islamic fundamentalism is a thing of past because Christian societes have undergone an age of enlightenment. So Bill Maher is right to focus on Islam and Islamic terror. They are truly much worse nowadays.

Wow, Chris Matthews. Are you that sensitive about what Jorge Ramos said that was absolutely true? I like Matthews at times, but he's full of shit with his claims that he ALWAYS was against the war. Bernie Sanders was against the war, Michael Moore was too, but don't try to pretend that you were always on the same boat as them and the few others that were against the war in 2001.
