Beautiful and very informative, I just love how siya puts it into perspective and I will also say that with the current society we live in, they would rather accept and understand a rapist, a sangoma killing people, a prostitute e.t.c than understanding a guy who has feelings for another guy or a lady who loves other ladies, it just doesn't make sense. To add on that I also don't understand which part of ( I did not wake up one day and decided to be gay don't they understand) these cultural norms and expectations from our parents are the ones to be blamed because we end up living under their shadows instead of focusing on creating and growing our own.

Hi Azania, My personal views on this topic is completely different but I liked the way you made the people you interviewed feel so comfortable that amazing. I am a female and working in the female dominated profession so most guy guys choose this profession. I have this thing of attracting guy friends I can’t explain it although I feel it’s sin as far as the Bible is concern. It always leaves me with guilt feeling as if I am encouraging the behavior.

In Cape Town there is an organization Pride Shelter Trust www.pridesheltertrust.com/ but I do believe there is indeed not only a gap but a need.

I am pro creation so i don't agree with homosexuality but i do respect it cz at the end of the day, they didn't choose to be that way. It's also important to educate people about the dynamics of homosexuals cz i, like many people, grew up thinking a gay man should be like Somizi and a lesbian would be a woman who doesn't wear bra's, short or no hair, dresses and talks "like a man". I was very surprised about two years ago when i worked in a environment that had quit a number of homosexuals & learned that some of the woman who were lady like turned out to be homosexuals.

Do not justify your existence by pushing aside other or "bashing" other people's existence Siya. I totally do not have a problem with gay people but respect Christianity as well as much as we should respect your sexual orientation. Referring to "We made God up so that we could bare living in a world without answers". DO NOT assume Christianity was made up because you also do not stand for the assumption that Homosexuality was made up. RESPECT.

Prayer . Skosana How is the LGBTQIA+ community trying to exist a way of "bashing other people's existence"? Some of us still do respect Christianity. However, we are aware of how it is largely responsible for the homophobia that LGBTQIA+ individuals internalize. Some of us are living with depression and anxiety because of this. People are literally dying because of toxic theology. And no one seems to care. Yet you still say Christians are the ones being "bashed"? Nah. This is, at least, my lived experience, and I'm not gonna compromise.

Read, understand, and then state your point. In this comment, I am addressing "Siya" and not the LGBTQIA+ community, and I am confused as to why you are dragging it along because I was referring to the comment "Siya" made about God being just a theory. This is not an attack on the LGBTQIA+ community, but it is an individual I am commenting to.

I seriously dont have a problem with gays and les, its non of my business as I do not understand where they are coming from and so on. Just dont force me to accept something that is foreign to me.

If you didn't, you would understand that the "gays and les" are not "forcing you to accept something that is foreign to you", but they're simply trying to exist in a world that really hasn't had them in mind for so long. If that feels like a personal attack on you, then I really don't know.

no one is forcing you on anything, you're not okay if thats what you think.

U being gay or lesbian or in between sexes or whatever u call is ur personal choice....so why should schools impliment teaching that not accepted by everyone...#nooffence..so these platforms are there for to showcase ur experience...like there will be alot of conflict if this has to be part of our subjects at school...

In most cases, homophobia in people stems from stereotypes, stigmas and ideas that are not necessarily true (just as how you think it's a "personal choice"). This continues to prove the dire need for it to be included in the education system, not as a way of recruiting (which is impossible anyways) but more so to inform and enlighten those who have been viewing homosexuality in a different light and also to liberate those who are homosexuals and encourage them to own their truth much sooner than they otherwise would have.
