It's because it looks 'natural.' Just like a hair transplant you have to choose who is a candidate and to be honest, some people just aren't. On top of that variable, the hairline has to be soft and 'age appropriate.'

I got the treatment a few months ago and the change in me couldn’t be more evident. Much more confidence. No longer hiding under a hat. An actual hairline. Best decision in a long, long while for me. No more Toppik and laser combs and other snake oil products that just lead to bitter disappointment. I was on the fence about getting it done for a while too. Worried I might be one of those ‘horror storiy’ results you read about online. Considered bailing on it, even while flying over to NY as I was so nervous about the unknown. Glad I didn’t. Couldn’t be in better hands than Matt & the Scalp Micro USA team, and couldn’t be happier with the results. Well worth the flight from Aus!!

If the SMP is done by your natural hairline (if you still have one) growing it out will be no issue it will give it a more dense look. If a new hair line has been created, it will look odd. It will look like you have only shaved parts of your head and you have grown out the others.

Most scalp micro pigmentation clients are required to cut their hair at a short length. When you buzz your hair down to a zero or half guard, your hair will become a shade of gray. If you have light skin and light hair, those hair stubbles will be a shade of light to medium gray tone. And if you have dark skin and dark hair, that color will of course be a darker shade. Almost all guys that buzz to a short cut will have a tone to their hair that falls within the monochromatic (black/grey) spectrum. Gray or white hair does not appear as gray because the root hair itself is much darker than the white strand.

Nicolas Carle yes. Over a long term (8-10 years) the pigment will be faded and excreted from your body and leave pretty much no pigmentation or color on the scalp

I don't understand how short the natural hair must be cut to do this. I still have some thinning hair. Shave it all off with razor and shaving cream? If not how short do you determine it needs to be cut and how do you maintain it? How will I be able to cut it so it blends in naturally after treatment? Seems confusing to me. Thanks.

Hey good question. For most clients simply using a hair or beard clipper with no guards or attachments is the easiest way to go to get it to the corrext length. Alternatively yes some do like to razor shave, or use an electric shaver with multiple rotating heads...plenty of options!

Hey man, I can chip in from personal experience. From your description, it sounds like your hair is exactly at the stage of balding as mine. Basically from my hairline back to the crown of my head, I’ve been losing my hair for the last 8 years or so. It was at the point now where if I looked in the mirror (especially in the right light), I was able to convince myself that safety razor full head shaving or a Wahl 5 star foil trimmer (if I felt lazy), would make me look decent enough to full off a shaved head without looking completely bald on top due to the fact that I still had some hair left on the thinning area. Of course, when I didn’t have my hat and I looked at a photo someone snapped of my in almost any light or just saw my reflection from the side, I realized just how much I looked completely bald on top. I can tell you with full confidence that no matter your completion, age, weight, appearance in general, getting the SMP done will give you confidence that must be experienced to truly be felt. I was nervous as all hell going to get my SMP done not just because of all the mixed opinions regarding the procedure you see online, and not because I was spending what to me is quite a good hit to my savings account, but more than anything because I was putting my date into the hands of a stranger. Being a new industry with literally no regulations(at least in my state), it was literally impossible to find substantial reviews on the handful of artists preforming the procedure. I had to go based off my gut feeling to the guy’s personality and trust that the photos and videos he showed were not some lighting trick. After my second session, I literally felt happiness that can’t be explained. I love the way I look today. Everyone that’s seen me since I’ve had the SMP are shocked and can’t believe it’s not my natural hair. To answer your original question, hair cutting is actually much less of a hassle after SMP. Simply buzz or shave like you normally do and you end up getting a look that resembles a very close bald fade (depending how short you buzz/shave on the sides). A good artist will make the pigments so that you don’t need to worry about seeing a line from the fade. If your on the fence, contact me and I’ll be happy to help with any questions. Side note - I’m not affiliated with any SMP company, I’m not a scalp artist, I’m not selling anything. Just happy to pass some happiness given to me to someone else in need! Best of luck

Everyone keeps mentioning the guy in the black shirt. Yes, his looks amazing, darker and probably more natural...but remember all male baldness isn't the same. He may just have had a very receded hairline as opposed to being bald like the others, so of course it's gonna look more natural because it mixes in with a lot of the natural hair he still has.

only reason the guy in black shirt looks the best is because he isnt bald. he just has thin hair. this treatment is best for people with thin hair and want fuller look. my cousin got it done and it looks great when he shaves but the sides of his head the hair grows so fast he has to shave every single day. its annoying i bet. god blessed you if you have hair. im sure it is a very frustrating thing since my hairlline is now going back a lil. i doubt i will get it because the sides of my head keep growing very fast but the top doesnt just like my cousin.

Not true. I can get away with 3-4 days of not shaving. I still have hair on top that is thinning around treatment area and that's adds a lot of realistic ness to the Scalp Micro pigmentation. If you are completely bald with strong hair follicles on the sides and lower back, then you may be required to shave every 2 days. If you plan to stay home or wear a hat out, well of course you can get away with more days. It should take you less time to buzz your head than shaving. I only tale about 5 mins to get a good shave and 3 mins for a not so close shave.
