What is neutering

For those wondering, the tears are artificial tears used to moisten the cats eyes during surgery. The surgery to spay and neuter your cat is comfortable, as they are under anesthesia and then given pain medication, but trips to the vet can be stressful in general. However, spaying and neutering are important to both prevent reproductive disease and pregnancy, as well as helping to gradually lower the population of stray cats. Be sure to let your cat rest alone after the surgery and get a check up a few weeks later.

Winston was out of it for hours. He just sat in one spot as if dazed and confused. When we found Tigre, we were so grateful that she couldn't become pregnant. Then I had to give them to a friend of mine because we were moving somewhere else. It upset Tigre so much that she stayed upstairs and came down only to eat in our friends' home. And Winston shut down, too. It was too much for them. Be very careful when giving cats away.

I call it a pyjama. My cats HATED it with passion. When the youngest was wearing it, the oldest would NOT get close to her (I think she has trauma with it due to how she was hissing). They both took it out in like, the first hour they were home, and the youngest cat infected the wound after that, but the oldest didn't.

Some kitties prefer what's called a donut rather than a come, for non head injuries.

Soon after I adopted a 4YO cat he had to go in for surgery. When I came to pick him up, he was howling and hissing until I called out to him. Then he was quiet. He knew Daddy was here to take him home. He loved me more after that.

There's literally hundreds of kittens on the street that don't make due to amount of strays in the street and mother cats that aren't able to care for all of them. Totally normal. Some cats do not like to eat while in a strange environment. As soon as they get home they feel safe again and eat like crazy.

I'm so glad we were told about the tears..if u didn't tell us that didn't know that they were artificial tears..bc seeing that was breaking my heart..thank u for the info..I can breathe comfortably now!

Not sure if you want more info but if you do: "Cats use their tear ducts as a way to keep their eyes moist and to combat dirt, dust, and other foreign items from getting into them. Cat's tears do not run down their face like us humans, instead, the tears are shed through little ducts from the eyes to the nose."

I don't see how any of this implies not spaying/neutering though. It's largely just: your cat will associate you negatively with the surgery if it sees you during the procedure, and common sense items EG: they'll be slight physically/emotionally different, don't let them lick a surgery site, don't feed until anesthesia has worn off. If anything it's advice on how to get a cat neutered without distancing or inadvertently hurting them afterwords

It's wrong to put the information out this way. It makes people not want to neuter their cats anymore. Neutering the cats is very important tho. For their health, your home and because of the Overpopulation. This video makes people feel like they should not neuter their cats since if you love you cats you dont want to hurt them. So yeah.... with sensitive topics like this please think about the way you bringing your information across. Edit: since people are fighting in the comments let me clear things Up. Of course neutering is necessary and the best for your cat. All I am saying is that the information could've been brought across more positively to encourage people to neuter their Cats. Showing pain, suffering and "tears" (i know they aren't crying but it still has a psychological effect on Humans) makes people think twice about doing it and makes it a Harder decision than it should be.

The way they present the information stresses how important it is to go through the whole neutering journey with proper care and caution to have the best results with our cats. It's not bad at all except maybe they could add some informative text that the cats aren't actually crying tears, but just drops to keep their eyes from drying during the surgery. Anyone who misunderstands the video might be a bit lacking in comprehension 😅 none of the content in the video made me not want to neuter my cat. It just gave me confidence that I'll be more prepared to handle the neutering and support my cat through the experience.

Neutered cats are often less stressed than un-neutered cats. Their hormones are not like human hormones. 2. Neutering completely removes the risk of reproductive-organ-related issues. 3. Neutering stops cats from spray urinating. 4. Neutered cats are less aggressive. 5. Neutering your cats control the cat population. 6. Neutered cats have a decreased risk of UTIs. 7. Neutered cats don't run the risk of testicular cancer. 8. Due to the reduction of certain diseases, neutered cats often live longer than their counterparts. 9. Neutered cats don't run the risk of perianal tumors. 10. Neutered cats don't run the risk of perianal hernias. 11. Neutered cats don't run the risk of perianal adenomas. 12. Tying into one of the points above, *certain* types of cancers don't or extremely-rarely occur in neutered cats. 13. Neutered cats don't suffer from mating frustrations. 14 Neutered cats will generally get along better with other pets than their counterparts. These are only a few of the benefits. I'm glad both my boys were neutered before I got them. The are both different types of siamese so they are like velcro kittes. They were actually my old roommates. He helped me get away from an abusive relationship by renting me his basement. We left the door to the basement open and both cats came downstairs and cuddled with me all the time. I lived there for 3 years and once the boys came downstairs they never really went back up to cuddle with him so he got a bulldog. When I was packing up all my things he told me I can have the cats since they are extremely attached to me. Both my boys have a different upbringing. George was with a man that had stage 4 cancer and couldn't take care of him anymore. My roommate adopted him and then wanted to get him a friend because he worked a lot. Blue came from a very abusive home he was extremely under weight and scared of everything. When he was in the cage at the SPCA he was hiding in the back corner and wouldn't look at anyone. He has those pocket doors so George knew how to open them. Blue was in a bedroom by himself just to calm him down. George opened the door and instantly started cleaning him and cuddling. That helped Blue so much. Once Blue came downstairs he slowly started inching closer to me and then he started to sleep right up against me. It took about 4 years before he would jump up on my lap and now sleeps on me for hours lol.

This makes my heart break 😢 so sad 😞

I took my little feral kitten in with his littermates to be fixed & then adopted through the local Humane Society. But he had a bit of a temperature, so he had to come back home with me. When I picked him up and was sitting in my car, I took him out of the carrier. When he realized it was me, he wrapped his teeny legs around my neck and PURRED like a pro (haha) and has been a super affectionate cat ever since. It was nice to be his "hero".❤

They don't need to procreate anymore than what they already have and not to mention all the cats that we can't get or know about. We can't fix all of them but fixing most of them would really help them from not living a lonely suffering life. Animal shelters all around my area are so overwhelmed with cats because nobody wants to spay and neuter them that normally you'd have to pay 70$ to adopt now they're literally just giving them to people for FREE. Because they're so overwhelmed with cats and kittens. Spaying and neutering is better than not. If you really love cats then you wouldn't want to see them on the streets as they are. Smh.

This is just blatant anti-neutering propaganda. I work with an animal rescue. We get hundreds of cats a year, and each one goes home fixed. All are perfectly fine and there are actually significant health and behavioral benefits to fixing your pet.

@kylieharrison3782 It's a surgery. Any surgery to anything is going to be traumatic. However, this is a small procedure and hardly traumatic. Like with humans, the animals aren't awake for the procedure, and they're put on pain medication to help them during recovery. The worst the experience is confusion and disorientation after they wake up. After that though, they are completely fine. I've seen it probably more than hundreds of times

My cats first visit to the vet was him being fixed. He never forgot it. Each time we went to a vet, he clung to me with all his mite. I had to peel each claw off. The only time he was calm was his last visit 18 years later when I was putting him down. He had cancer, and he'd stopped eating that morning he couldn't stand. I called the vet and took him in. He was fine with her that time. I forgot to say he cried for three days when he was fixed.

My cat, Juicy got neutered about a year ago. He’s an old man and he got one of my four-month-old kitty preggers. One time, he tried to sit down, and he started howling in pain because he didn't know how to sit comfortably after that, so my stepdad had to help him sit properly. A lot of his behavior is the same as before, he just has a staring problem now.

Lovely advice. I brought a wild untouchable feral in for a TNR. When I picked her up after her appointment I assumed she would be even wilder. But to my surprise she actually has become almost tame for me and lets me touch her. I believe she sees me as the person who rescued her from the vet rather than the human who took her to the vet. Your advice is fantastic and sound. Thank you!

My cat use to shit and pee everywhere EVEN IN MY BAG and he meowed every night so thats why i got him neutered. 🙏

​@@EarthC111if a cat pees in your face, that means they are scent marking you are trying to get a mate. Cats should instinctively seek out a litter box because they want to bury their waste to hide the scent, making it easier to sneak up on prey. The fact the cat "shit everywhere" implies it was either sick or in extreme pain. Judging by the yowling comment, I'd say in pain.

​@@ShaimaaBenaid also, in some countries/states it's better since it prevents stray cats from becoming a hazard towards native animals/plants and more. In my case where I live in mexico although not considered a hazard there's a ton of stray cats as much as stray dogs if not more and its dangerous to have them outside in some places since there's still many cases about animal cruelties or abuse, its so bad that adoption requires payment instead of being given for free in any shelter because multiple people have proven to hurt the animal in one way or another, even feeding it to other pets they own instead. I prefer for my cat's kittens to be born in a much safer place.

Can we please not make it look like it is torture for the cat, presenting it like that might make people not want to spay/neuter their cats and that would be awful, animal activists and vets worked for decades to make people understand how important it is to prevent more unwanted stray kittens, reproductive deseases live ovary cancer and the stress of female cats getting in heat or male cats smelling a cat in heat... It is a pretty simple surgery and after wards the cat needs some rest and love and then she will be fine... My dog was a little high for a day and afterwards he was completely normal again

Cats are incapable of crying. Every time you see a video of a cat looking like its crying, its because it just had surgery and the liquid the vet put into the cats eyes to keep it moist is now coming out due to the cat waking up.

That’s sick. It’s not funny at all or cute. They felt more vulnerable now and that’s why their behaviour has changed. And you are happy about the change, knowing the cruelty you have made. That is sick. That is no different than doctors chopping off kids’ genitals for transgender agenda saying it prevents kids from suicide. Sick.

I wish we could tell animals that we’re trying to help them when we take them to the vet :,( We know you’re scared and maybe even hurting a little, we hate it just as much as you, fur/scale/feather/slimy babies, but we do it because we love you.

They can't feel it because the nerve response is nulled. The nerves can't tell the brain there is pain until it wears off. Same way pain killers work. They numb the pain, which dulls the nerve response so it doesn't transfer the fact of there being pain to the brain until the medicine wears off. If there is still pain when that happens, then the brain will know then.

​@@EarthC111what's the point of getting a cat if you aren't going to do everything on your power to make sure they live longer, healthier lives? Neutering/spaying a cat reduces their risk of certain cancers, extends their lifespans, stops urine spraying around your house from their scent marking, helps female cats by not putting them through uncomfortable heats, helps lower aggression levels in male cats, and more. Not spaying or neutering can lead to an over population of cats in an area, of which would make cats be an invasive species because they can and will kill off parts of the local ecosystem, plus the fact there are already millions of homeless cats that should be given a home before even more kittens are made.

Not only is it the OPPOSITE of damaging, it actually prevents long term discomfort and restlessness for the cat. I know spraying can be an issue, but none of the cats that I've taken in (I foster stray cats) have had that problem after being trained not to. It's difficult, but possible. I personally think neutering/spaying any pet is cruel, but I get it if you want to.

Its far far far from cruel. Look up all the benefits. Theyre friendlier,theyre healthier and theres no unwanted kittens(as awful as that sounds,theres too many especially since they can have babies as young as four months old/ It also saves them from painful, reproduction related cancers. Its good for them. Its far from cruel. Sure no surgery or vet visit is pleasant,but its for their benefits.

Besides the financial aspect, I never neuter my cats because I don't want them to undergo surgical pain and post-pain & hassle. They also deserve to have their descendants and feel the family love and sense of purpose of their lives.
