That is silly. He has never done anything to turn Turkey into a theocratic state. But Islam is a part of this region. of its culture, history and the religion of the vast majority of people. The name Istanbul itself means "Islam in abundance". All you can blame him for is to give people, including minorities like Christians, the same rights to practice their religion as they have in America.

Aaron Westwood That is polemical nonsense. Erdogan has never tried to change the secular status of Turkey. None of the laws he changed has meant any pressure on non-Muslims except for the raised taxes on alcohol, maybe. All he did was to secure religious freedom, against Kemal's oppression. Because to force women to take off the headscarves is oppression and the *opposite* of "secular". Erdogan's changes are reasonable and beneficial for Turkey and the Turkish people.
