The 5 Normandie Landing Beaches are really fascinating to see and huge in size - 70 miles from one end to the other (but not contiguous). Many interesting museums in the area, also. Bayeux is a logical, and lovely, place to be based. (We were there last fall).

Goodness it must have so scary for the foot soldiers xox

i dont understand why the allies didnt use smoke muniitions to assist the disembarking soldiers from being cut down on the beaches?

Several reasons, the wind was moving quite fast so it would have quickly blown away, it would have prevented naval gunfire on german positions, it would have made co-ordination after landing significantly harder, and the beaches are just too large

Here in Italy we still find unexploded WWII allied bombs .

Also in Germany, not just "found" but we know that they are below many of the postwar buildings but chose not to dig there ever again
