    If you ever been on a ship you will quickly realize that Naval technology, civilian and military is pretty far behind. It has to be very rugged, some still use LADAR, real radio frequencies, and even Floppy disks if you can believe it. An outage of a system on a ship means death or a really bad freaking time lol. Equipment has to be rugged and easily isolated. And that's why Analog is far better then Digital, also for military equipment it has to be EMP and Microwave weapon proof which Analog systems are more durable against. In an EMP attack your PC, XBOX, Cellphone, and 2018 Nissan will be kaput, while the Military, and my old ass Pickup Truck will still be operating doing their jobs.

    Looks more to me like a permanent restricted area than a NOTAM activated one. I've looked through the NOTAMs archive of the FAA and on September 13th 2016 there was no NOTAM that activated EK-R95 or EK-R96. But you can definately see them on the the charts... On the other side, mistakes happen. These wannabe badass military ships (which are probably just training themselves) should have just telled the pilot to take a look on the charts (or GPS if equipped) and look for the restricted area... Not this "remain 5nm clear around every navy ship" bullcrap... How am I supposed to do that without visual markers (like the pilots asked, how do recognise them)... Funny, when the navy guy realized he was talking crap, he threatens with opening fire... Calm your shit down, navy captain...

    flattire78 In some countries, if the plane entering the restricted air space is not an imidiate threat, military fighters will escort you out of the airspace and not threaten you to shoot you down. Especially if the restricted area is only used for training and not an actual protect-worthy area (like in the US, where temporary restricted areas are created whereever the president is). But every country is acting different in these regards, and to be honest I didnt liked the way the navy ship handled that.

    I live in the Scottish highlands and next to the main underwater weapons testing area that our navy and other NATO countries use for submarines training/torpedo firing etc. For as long as I can remember, and I’m 44 now, the place, (called BUTEC), has placed an advert in the local newspaper and online to let fishing vessels or other boats know that certain areas are out of bounds or at least restricted during weapons tests etc. It works brilliantly and there’s never any issue - I can’t understand why there’s not a similar system that’s updated hourly or daily for aircraft in other countries. Military exercises are usually planned years or months in advanced and surely flight schools or civilian training places should be alerted when warships will be in an area used by aircraft. I dunno, maybe they are and this was an oversight, but it seems to happen an awful lot in places I consider to be “first world” with good communication links etc.

  • @BullDogBreed75

    @BullDogBreed75

    Interesting, never knew they did that. In this case however my money is on the pilots actually being part of the exercise in order to test the ships response to a restricted airspace incursion....the pilots just seemed a little too stupid with their questions, almost as if they were baiting a threat of force to see how much they could get away with. I'm no expert, but I can see this kind of training being required as it's not an unlikely scenario for naval ships to have to deal with.

    What a attitude change at the end. Ship to Air Missiles, always the great equalizer. “My mission?” “Fuck my mission”

    I am very glad I've never had to be in a position to either be threatened with live fire for doing something a superior told me to do, or having to threaten someone with live fire because they *might* be lying about their intent.

    The pilot said Sir a lot of times and i do not blame him,, being threatened to be shot down by a navy frigate would tend to cause that reaction,,, poor guy :-) F363 is the Niels Juel an electronic warfare frigate owned by the danish navy since 2012 and a very capable warship.
