Readymix driver pouring a 60 yard driveway.

Trying to make it easy on the finishers by spreading the concrete out as best as I can.

Hey Moe, great videos. I'm a trainee right now. Learning in the grind, nothing soft about it, even from contractors. They don't want me to practice pouring on their sites. In the end, they lighten up. Just the normal raz to the new guy. LOL. Anyway, I've been training for 1 week in a newer front load OSHKOSH with the fancy joystick controls. My problem is, that won't be my assigned truck. I'll be handed an older model TEREX with the foot peddle on the floor and chute control stick comes out of the floor, about the same length as a stick shift lever. So, now that I've learned to use the OSHKOSH, I'm going to be relearning in my assigned truck. Pouring without making a slight mound has been a challenge, especially when pouring parallel on angled slope uphill. Another issue is, the OSHKOSH has a 2 drop paver drum, so filling up wheel barrels only half way is tricky, especially when the contractor orders a 5 slump then wants so much water added to make it basically a high 6 to 7 slump, I don't know what the TEREX has on it yet. This past week has been a wild ride, and I'm eager to keep on it. Salute back to ya Moe.

We don't have truck time at my company. Sometimes we deliver to the airport and need to be escorted all the way in and out. Sometimes it will be 3 threes trucks at once and we would have to wait for all trucks have poured before we are escorted out. With each truck taking 45min-60min to pour. 😀 Or sometimes I would get to a job and the pump truck isn't even there yet! Hurry up and wait.

For me it's understanding that the real make or break thing is going to be your spouting. It's well understood that it can take up to a year to lay it out in a way that the contractors couldn't complain about it. For anyone looking to get into it, a clean driving record and a willingness to learn goes a long way. Safety first, second - don't wreck your own load with too much water, and be easy with the brake pedal (spilling mud on the road is not fun), and third - know what the contractor wants and do your best to listen and do what he asks. It takes time and practice. Lots of practice.
