I read Crime and Punishment for the first time a couple of years ago, and can say without hesitation that it is my favourite novel of all time. I never had a clear-cut favourite before, but this stands head and shoulders above any other novel for me.

I know I’m Team Dostoyevsky. I’m a few chapters away from finishing Anna Karenina and I can recognise it’s a great work but it didn’t have the gut punch of Dostoyevsky. While reading Bros.K I was put through the wringer- I laughed out loud, sobbed out loud, and had many thoughts to ponder afterwards. I’m reading The Idiot in December and I think it will be a good Christmas book. You’ve talked me into watching Squid Game. Love moral dilemmas! White kitchens and bathrooms are great because they look clean and you can change the colours of the accessories for a new look. Deb

I agree, Deb. I've struggled with Tolstoy because I don't think he's nearly as emotional as Dostoevsky. A gut punch is a good way to put it!!

@@jenniferbrooks The Insulted and Humiliated by Dostoevsky hit me so hard, read it 20 years ago, today I don't even remember almost nothing about it except the emotion and I still say it's my favorite book. Time to read it again and just want to recommend it to all because I can't believe no one is talking about it

Your thoughts are really interesting, Jennifer! As you continue reading, consider what was a major theme for Dostoyevsky, the degrading ideology of nihilism for individuals and society. The investigator, and so many characters, are stellar. Sorry I haven't seen Squid Game.

The parallels are THERE! Razu and Raskolnikov remained in 21st century South Korea 😂 I'm so glad you were enjoying Crime and Punishment. There are many great moments yet to come after the halfway point in the book 😍 The themes develop to a whole new level. It's wild and wonderful!!

Loved the correlation between C&P and Squid Game!! You’re right, very similar social issues in the background. Also , those autumn colors are so wonderful… We don’t get any of those here in CA 😄

I am still on Book One of The Histories, I hopefully will finish by the end of the year. I also totally relate to feeling like fall has been longer than it normally is. I've only got snow a handful of times here but it all has melted away. Which is absolutely weird for Canadian weather in Ontario! I absolutely loved Squid Game, and your insight was wonderful to listen to as always! :)

It's funny you mention snow because I think just now our leaves have started to turn! I'm hoping for a little snow near Christmas! Idk when I will finish the Histories, lol. Feels terrible when I'm the one who suggested reading it!

This was a good Vlog thanks. So sorry to hear of your reading pause. I am reading Herodotus but no way can I read at the pace you set. I love everything about it, the language the history the sometimes confusion in the writing and my understanding! I have tried three times to read Crime and Punishment and seem to get to a certain point and get stuck. Will get through it one day. Thanks for this and I missed your non fiction updates through November.

Great Video, I have had the exact same November I have finished nothing in November and I usually read 15-20 books a month. I have started reading 6 different books and put them done and I’m only close to finishing The Idiot by Fyodor Dostoevsky I’ve been enjoying it but it has taken me the full month to get almost to the end and I am just used to reading books to completion in 2-3 days a week at most.
