As an English person who lived for a while in the USA I happily stood and respected the anthem at sports events and anywhere it was played. Fair play on all the other points.. The last commenter needs to be locked up!

If I was at a football game in England I would stand up just out of respect.🇺🇲

Beckles H I agree. I’ve been in this situation in Japan and Korea. I will stand to show respect for their country but my allegiance lies with the US. I’m not saluting a flag, bowing to a monarch etc.

As far as standing for the National Anthem that’s a bit how I feel about curtsies to the Queen, but I’d do it out of respect. Respect has nothing to do with my personal feelings.

If I were in a foreign country I would stand for their anthem just as part of partaking in their culture and customs and to show consolidarity with them as well as respect and kinship. Of course course everyone can chose whether they do it or not without persecution but just for me I’ve outgrown the “I won’t do it just because I’m told to” mentality and have settled into a less rebellious more friendly stance about it

I’m American and often don’t stand for our anthem... idgaf really. To me it’s just irrelevant nowadays and doesn’t really show any lack of patriotism in my opinion. Nowadays actually, a part of me is protesting like the likes of Colin Kaepernick or Megan Rapinoe, due to the blatant injustices that are an everyday occurrence in this country. The national anthem IS just a song, as they said... it’s true meaning has been lost to some for a very long time now.

Erica Ferguson I’m from Argentina and I have been an American citizen for almost 20 years. America (Texas) has embrace me as one of their own and I’m so thankful for all the love I got from this country that I feel privileged to be able to stand and hold my hand to my heart when I hear the national anthem. I used to cry just listening to it. For many that “song” means a lot.

If it weren't for algorithms, I'd have never found you two legends. I'm out of prosecco but I just used this video as the perfect excuse to work on a bottle of wine. The downside of being single is needing excuses to drink once you open a red. the upside is legends like you creating wine worthy content. Thanks from America

Kelly Morgan agreed! I don’t understand people demanding they stand for an anthem for a country they aren’t from. I don’t think sitting quietly is disrespectful.

the anthem's not really just a song. its about more than that. it's about taking a moment to show appreciation to the active military and the veterans who sacrificed it all so that we can live the lives that we live. our military is 100% volunteer, so it's the least we can do. all that said, if i was in another country and they started playing their anthem, i would probably just do what everyone else was doing out of respect for their customs.

The national anthem, in particular standing up for it, is an overt act by people here that signifies respect, unity and love for the country we call home. I'd only ever expect a citizen of the country to stand for the anthem. If someone from another country chooses to show their support or respect to the country then great, but I wouldn't expect it nor condemn any foreigner that doesn't.

I would stand for another countries national anthem to show respect for that country. But that’s what I am comfortable with. Non-citizens really shouldn’t feel like they need to put their hand over their heart unless they feel a kinship with us. I think it’s such a sweet gesture when they do.
