Reading Glock Markings: What Can They Tell You?

The markings on your Glock can tell you alot about it; IF you know how to read them, and although some markings are no longer used, there are still Glocks in circulation that possess those older markings.

    Next time I dive in the safe, I will look at my glocks very close, never knew all this about them, but its really good to know, if I can remember 90 % of it. Somtimes I skip a gear here an there. Thx for the vid Antonius

    Good information thank you. They now make the 380 Glock 28 in the US. It just came out a few days ago.

    My G27 barrel only has 40 on it, no AT, US or Glock symbol. Go figure. Thanks for the video, I’ve been watching several of them since finding you last night. Good stuff.

    Thank goodness someone finally explained the 3D symbol. I was simply curious about it, and the internet kept showing me 3D printed Glocks and auto sears. Like bro I don't care about that stuff I just wanna know about the barrel marking. Thank you sir!

    Sir, you mentioned that each Glock pistol is accuracy tested at 25 yards. Is this why some of mine arrived with a 6.1 rear sight and some arrived with a 6.5 rear sight?

    @billh.6529 The distance tested at the factory was the last information I had at the time (which was several years ago), so it may have deviated in some ways since then. For some odd reason, it seems that there has been many Glocks of the same model distributed by the factory with different sight settings. I've witnessed this myself. However, I can say personally that I've owned a few model 22's and a model 21, all consistent with the proper sight settings. But that's not always been the case with many other folks, and I am at a loss to explain that.

    @@shootinitstraight4162 Thanks so much for responding! My Gen 2 and Gen 4s were delivered with 6.5s, but my Gen 3s all came with 6-1s. (I've switched them over to 6.5s also.). It always seemed odd to me. Thanks again!

    I have an EARLY Glock 23 from 1990. Its 100% Austrian made with the 40SW Slide my marking, but on the dust cover it has the suffix "US" to indicate that the gun is to be imported to the US. Question for you sir: is the grade 6 vs grade 5 steel determined strictly by the proof testing each gun went through, or is it actually a different steel entirely? I cannot find any information on that topic. If it is different steel, do you happen to know the metallurgical differences?

  • @shootinitstraight4162

    @shootinitstraight4162

    @theshapeexists Excellent question, of which I cannot answer with great accuracy. I do know that Glock manufactures the steel that they use, and that the higher grades are reportedly stronger. At any rate, either grade (5 or 6) is strong enough to easily handle the over-pressured test loads.

    @@shootinitstraight4162 thank you. I currently own over a dozen Glocks and the only one rated as grade 6 is an old gen 3 21, while my gen 3 20 does not. Makes me curious as to the rhyme or reason Glock would use different grades. Perhaps some customers require different grades. it must not be too big a difference with my high pressure round Glocks like 10mm not having grade 6, while a low pressure 45acp gun uses grade 6. Interesting stuff.

    wait…so the pentagon symbol basically means it wasn’t in cooperation with NIST and that means its more difficult to be identified by police/governmental agencies? i have a G19 Gen 3 with the dot in the pentagon made in austria and the frame manufactured in GA. does this indicate rarity in any way? sorry for the continuous questions

  • @shootinitstraight4162

    @shootinitstraight4162

    3 ай бұрын

    @AlexDhaLion_ The "pentagon" symbol simply indicated that the bore had polygonal rifling. Complying with NIST is voluntary, but the newer Glock "Marksman" rifling in Gen 5's are easier to match fired bullets to. Not sure about your G19, but if it's a Gen 3, good chance that both the frame, slide, and barrel were made in Austria, but assembled in GA.

    @@shootinitstraight4162 thx for the explanation. very educational stuff from what i’ve watched so far. i am definitely implementing your recommendations with your “proper grip video”. simple knowledge of physics coupled with your explanation on grip while the slide is moving linearly in a back and forth motion with the slight forward movement is definitely going to make me try it out on the range. i couldn’t get this type of advise even if i paid for it for classes. thx for your input. definitely gained a new subscriber with me. keep up the great work

  • @shootinitstraight4162

    @shootinitstraight4162

    @wilburnmorris8607 The 19x came out in 2018, so the frame is either gen3 or gen4. If the frame is designed to accept multiple backstraps, it's a gen4. The slide will have "Gen 4" etched on the side of it.
