I have two 1997 Tacomas, one being a parts truck. The LX has an OBD2 port under the left side of dash by driver's leg. Pretty standard location and easy to connect to. The base model has a 17 pin OBD1 port in an easy to see location in the engine compartment and I was resigned to the paper clip trick. Then I stumbled upon a video where the mechanic told of a sneaky manufacturer / dealer racket during the late '90's and early 2000's. In 1996, the government required all cars to be equiped with the a standard OBD2 connector. This would take money of the dealerships as propriatary connectors were SOP for quite some time and only dealers had the correct code reader plug. Manufactures actually complied with the law, but they often put the propriatary port in an obvious location and a secondary OBD2 port hidden somewhere else. I found my "hidden" OBD2 port neatly tucked away under the right side of the dash mounted vertically. Easy to connect to once you knew where it was. However, some were more cleverly hidden as the mechanic in the video had to removed a small tilt out glove box type compartment to expose a fuse panel with the OBD2 port mounted above it. Sneaky. Just thought I share should anyone else have a similar problem.

@@SamsAutomotiveS Yeah, early on, it was dealer or the clip trick. For my money, a paper clip and flash counting would be the only way to go. Good video, by the way; I should have noted that earlier. Thanks.

I have codes 13 and 14. Looked up and 13 is no ECM signal over 1000rpm and 14 is no igniter signal to ECM. Does the ECM receive its signal from the igniter unit for both codes?

I have a 1991 Toyota T-100 6 cylinder 3VZ engine. The engine shakes at idle speeds, especially when stopped at red light (in Drive pushing the brakes). I have an Actron 9680 but it only reads 1996 and up models. Can someone help me out by giving me info on a diagnostic which could read a 1991 Toyota T-100 ? Thanks. I changed spark plugs, distributor cap and rotor, air filter, and removed and cleaned throttle assembly. Also install new motor mounts. It improved a lot but it still shakes. Idle RPM reads approx 650, and it should be 800. I appreciate any helping info anyone has. Thanks.

How did you see your codes? Did you use the tech or did you use this method that was shown in the video
