It's ok to dislike books, but people need to realize that this is a middle grade series. I feel like these reviews are treating them like YA books.

I hate that ppl compare PJO to HP they are written in the same formula 3 kids go on a quest and go to a place for "kids like them" they have a smart friend and a loyal sidekick but that is where the similarities end if you read with an open mind I can almost guarantee they would have fun.

I understand parents wanting to read with their kids. I started reading these with my mom when I, like, 9 or 10, and we both loved them. But if she hated them, I would’ve understood and just read them on my own. It was a great way for us to spend time together, but I wouldn’t have wanted her to be miserable. These parents need to explain to their kids that sometimes people have different tastes, and it’s okay to have like or dislike something others don’t. It’s just part of life

@@Unclaimeddemigod Yeah, I guess in some families it’s just not really all that practical to read with the kids. Especially if there’s multiple at different ages. But I’d recommend it to anyone who can; not just for the bonding experience, but also for helping kids’ reading skills. My mom used to read books aloud, that were too difficult for me to read on my own, and make me follow along as she read. Every few minutes, she’d pause and make me point to the word she was on to make sure that I was really following XD! I did end up reading way above my grade level, so I guess it worked.

i will still recommend anyone of any age to give these books a try, i think the fact that its all from percys perspective makes the middle grade writing feel like mostly a character trait, since we are listening to a child talk about the things hes going through. unless you really hate children or don't have a sense of humor this can't really be a bad read imo. rereading these in my 20s was just as entertaining as it was when i was 12-16. i don't get how anyone can get bored of percy, everyone i know wanted to protect him at any cost after 3 chapters 😅

I hate when people compare Percy Jackson and Harry Potter too! They are very different and there are a few similarities but because these books are about a camp and they have a lot of adventures in them people compare them to Harry Potter. Also I do not remember anyone saying something like "Percy Jackson our new celebrity". Snape said this to Harry. I also don't understand how people can find Percy Jackson boring, of course there will be some parts of a book that you don't like even if it's the best book in the world but I don't think the Percy Jackson books were boring overall but everyone has their own opinion I guess. I like the fact that the writing is similar for all the books because that's how I know it's a Rick Riordan book unless they were talking about the fact that the things happening in each of the books is similar which is true but also I don't mind that because the books do have a good plot.

This was also the quest Annabeth had been waiting to read for 7 years, again you can’t just skip over that. And finally Percy learned how create the earthquake thingies and how to pull water out of the ground. Oh during the school year I learned how to pull water from the ground and make an earthquake, no biggie. Honestly though I can see him saying this, but us as readers want context about this.

Ok, every book might be written the same. But what these people don't understand is that every single thing the characters do, affects the main scheme in some way, even if it seems minor at the time being. Every last move they make can affect everything in the long run, and choices from the past no matter how small, will come back up throughout the series. Therefore, it is SUPER important to keep plot consistency. And Rick did that. Everything that happened was important in some way some how. So to the people who get to sea of monsters and say it's the same as the first one, please keep reading. You'll see why later.

@@Unclaimeddemigod personally, I think their friendship was good waayyy later. I loved Ron and Harry's obviously but I really didn't like how they treated Hermione up till 5th book. Just went to her when they needed her help and didn't act like real friends especially during Hermione's free the elves arc

I know I shouldn't crap on this guy at 10:09; but seriously dude, A month to read a five book series!?!? I read them in like a week when I was 10 during my 5th grade year, and I was considered to have extreme reading comprension problems. Also who the hell reads something they don't like? To torture themselves? I would say that's the definiton of masochist or a tendacy of one; but and I could be wrong, I'm not and expert on the subject and I'm not going to look it up, but I thought they only liked to physically torture themselves, not phsychologically.

But I honestly feel that Ares was associated with ugly a lot, I mean, Gabe deserved it but yeahhhh, so it's just my opinion and I kinda like 25 percent agree with that one comment which said that twisting those myths was dangerous and the fact that Medusa, Circe were villianised, Ares was portrayed as a misogynist while in reality women respected Ares so much that they had an entire different aspect of hin which only women could worship and he was said to be all brawn and no brains and not generally respected, but have you ever actually looked at the Spartans? We always got to see Aphrodite as this girly girl who acted silly but in Greek Myths she was also known as Killer Of Men, and never got to see Aphrodite Areia (i think), her most warlike state. And Hera, in the battle of the Labyrinth, in the end everyone seems to ignore that part where Hera guided them through their entire dam quest and they say she didn't give clear answers when she first met them but when Annabeth refused to say the prophecy stating that too much knowledge was not good, people ignored it. The books also only said that Hera threw Hephaestus off because he wasn't perfect as per se, but i don't think they ever mentioned that Hera sired Hephaestus with her own essence to prove to Zeus that she didn't need him but then Zeus mocked her when Hephaestus came crippled that she wasn't perfect, like mother like son, and only with his help she could make something good, so she threw her source of mockery, that is Hephaestus. They say that Hera never had the guts to retaliate to Zeus himself when he cheats and instead punishes his children or mistresses, actually she did retaliate to Zeus the first two times but Zeus forbade her to. I'm not saying it's justified, but without context, she was just villianised way too much. The books stated that Apollo was older than Artemis, Hecate wasn't a virgin goddess, etc etc. If you look at it from the cultural point of view, you'll see what I mean. But I still loved the books, I'm a fan 100 percent, this is just my opinion.

So I love Harry Potter but I am not forcing anyone to share my opinion. Why is it that because I think it is better than another book series that I have to make sure other people think it too????? These reviews were ridiculous. First of all they can both exist in the same world. It’s ok to have multiple book series. Second no one forced you to read them. And third you are a freaking adult, why are you expecting high grade literary classics from a kids book?????

The first comment where it is written that too many Harry Potter references, it is called paying homage. If I am remembering correctly, Snape said this to Harry and Mr.D says is to Percy. It is literally a way Rick is showing his love and respect to JK Rowling/Harry Potter. Also, this was his first book and just a fun book for his kid so cut him some slack eh?

The comparing to Harry Potter just no. I love Harry Potter and all but Percy Jackson was less boring than Harry Potter especially with writing style and all. Plus, this series kinda seemed like it was for slightly younger kids like maybe eight-ish and Harry Potter is more for like 10-teen years in my opinion but yeah.
