Readathon TBR - Book Trek 2024: The Wrath of the Summer of Trek 🖖📚🤓

DISCLAIMER: It took ages to upload this video, and I only realized after I had that there isn't just one nonfiction prompt (or "away mission") for the readathon but two - one for a nonfiction science book and one for a nonfiction about the show itself - so I'll actually be embarking on both away missions! Score! So, I do realize my mistake, I just didn't want to go to the trouble of editing the video.

Ah, Night of the Living Trekkies. I read it last year, and the more I think about this book, the more it grows on me. You're going to love it, and roll your eyes at parts of it :) That's a great collection of ST books. The National Geographic book looked amazing - I'm tempted to break away from my "Read What You Own Challenge" and pick up a copy :)

Oh, this is amazing. I am an avid fan of Star Trek, and for over a year, I've been reading TOS novels (which was my entry into Trek...with syndication. I was born in 1966, and when syndication became a thing, we watched Star Trek: TOS every weekday at dinnertime. I owned all 79 VHS tapes of the series, and watched them into my adulthood. SO, hearing about #BookTrek2024 is amazing. Without knowing about this readathon, I decided to start reading the Trek Lit Reading Flowchart on the first of June (coincidence? ), and started with TNG. It is now the end of June and I have read 20 novels in June (so far, it being June 30th...might be able to read one more). 1) Star Trek: TNG - Post-Nemesis: Death in WInter by Michael Jan Friedman 2) Star Trek: TNG - Post-Nemesis: Resisteance by J.M. Dillard (aka: Jeanne Kalfridis) 3) Star Trek: TNG - Post-Nemesis: Q & A by Keith R.A. DeCandido 4) Star Trek: TNG - Post-Nemesis: Before Dishonor by Peter David 5) Star Trek: TNG - Post-Nemesis: Greater Than the Sum by Christopher L. Bennett 6) Star Trek: Titan - Post-Nemesis: Taking Wing by Michael A. Martin & Andy Mangels 7) Star Trek: Titan - Post-Nemesis: The Red King by Andy Mangels & Michael A. Martin 8) Star Trek: TNG - Post-Nemesis: Articles of the Federation by Keith R.A. DeCandido 9) Star Trek: Titan - Post-Nemesis: Orion's Hounds by Christopher L. Bennett 10) Star Trek: Titan - Post-Nemesis: Sword of Damocles by Geoffrey Thorne 11) Star Trek: Destiny - Post-Nemesis: Gods of Night by David Mack 12) Star Trek: Destiny - Post-Nemesis: Mere Mortals by David Mack 13) Star Trek: Destiny - Post-Nemesis: Lost Souls by David Mack 14) Star Trek: Voyager - Post-Nemesis: Full Circle by Kirsten Beyer 15) Star Trek: Voyager - Post-Nemesis: Unworthy by Kirsten Beyer 16) Star Trek: Voyager - Post-Nemesis: Children of the Storm by Kirsten Beyer 17) Star Trek: Voyager - Post-Nemesis: The Eternal Tide by Kirsten Beyer 18) Star Trek: DS9 - Post-Nemesis: Avatar, Book One by S.D. Perry 19) Star Trek: DS9 - Post-Nemesis: Avatar, Book Two by S.D. Perry 20) Star Trek: Section 31 - Post-Nemesis: Abyss by David Weddle & Jeffrey Lang ...might start, if not finish Star Trek: Demons of Air and Darkness by Keith R.A. DeCandido...we shall see. SO...as you can see...I've been having fun in the Summer...with #BookTrek2024, not even knowing it existed. Thank you for this video. I will now be looking forward to your videos, and checking out the other content creators. Thanks for doing this. It is now going to be my destination for MORE Trek reading each Summer. If you are interested, you can find this flowchard and reading schedule, by Googling "Trek-Lit Reading Flowchart". A friend sent me the link...and I started building my library up enough to put this in motion. I am currently 20 books in, of a reading schedule that will probably be over 75 novels from TNG, Titan, Voyager and DS9...along with a number of crossovers...that are 2376 to 2381 onward. Glad I found this community of Star Trek lovers. Talk to you, later.

Good to meet you, Graff! I cut my Trekkie teeth on TOS in syndication, too, because my dad watched it religiously. It wasn't really dinnertime if the Star Trek theme wasn't playing. 🤣 Wow, thanks for bringing that flowchart to my attention! What a cool idea for a reading project! You've definitely been having fun! I apologize, I should have linked to the hosts' channels in my description box. The hosts of #BookTrek2024 are @ReadbyFred, @saintdonoghue, ‪@michaelk.vaughan8617‬, ‪@TheBookclectic‬, @bookssongsandothermagic‬, and @LiterateTexan‬, so be sure to check their videos out. I didn't know about this readathon until halfway through June myself, so I'm new to the BookTrek crowd, but they seem really welcoming!

@Faye_L - Yes, the Trek community is vast and varied, but like the BookTrek2024, it is not how much you read, but that you just read one Star Trek book. I'm an outlier, and I read a LOT generally. I started my Summer to read this Trek-Lit Reading Flowchart...and there are many "jumping in points", and I chose my route, by the amount of books that I already owned...and if I am able to have read all 75+ books, I will ONLY have to buy 6-9 books (so I'm looking for some deals, as the ones I don't have...are approaching where I am. LOL. Thanks for being a Star Trek reader. I look forward to seeing your progression for the Summer of the Wrath of BookTrek (or something around that). Ha!

@@grafffuller3265 Nice! I own a dozen at best, so I have a long way to go. I kick myself all the time for giving up the ones I had as a teen.

@@Faye_L - If you don't mind reading on a Kindle, Simon & Schuster give bargain deals every month...for the Star Trek community (from 99 cents, to $1.99 and $2.99). That's how I consume all my books...so I find great deals each month...just to let you know about these offers. Google "Simon and Schuster star trek" and they will send you to the place where they disclose these deals...at the beginning of each month. Enjoy.

So far for Book Trek 2024, I've read Kahless by Michael Jan Friedman, Vendetta by Peter David, and I'm currently reading Pliable Truths by Dayton Ward. I hope to also read Crossover by Michael Jan Friedman.

Nice! How are you liking Pliable Truths? I love crossovers between TNG and DS9, so that one's on my wishlist. I remember liking Peter David's books as a teenager, so I need to revisit Vendetta.

@@Faye_L so far Pliable Truths is really good. I’m a bout 1/2 way done. I’ve only read 2 of Peter David’s books Imzadi and Vendetta. Imzadi was really good.
