Reactions: Falsettos (2016) - Act 2
Ойын-сауық
Stage Rat reacts to Act 2 of Falsettos - and, after being left as a little wrecked bundle of Feelings, decides that "everything will be alright" is the biggest lie ever sung in a musical. Seriously, this got VERY sad so only watch if you can handle extreme emotion...
I don't own Falsettos (music and footage).

What makes it sadder is the last word Jason said at his bar mitzvah was “aboh” which means “father”, he said it while looking at Whizzer, meaning he sees Whizzer as a father. Considering we don’t see Whizzer again, it could be assumed that was one of the last things Whizzer heard

... Just when I was thinking this show couldn't possibly be any more devastating than I already thought it was... Well, excuse me while I go and weep in a corner...

Yep, while I couldn't understand every word that was said in Hebrew in that section (which I think was because it wasn't like made to make sense), at the very end he says אבא, and it always gets me. The first time I heard it and it just sunk in, it just hit me, it hurt so hard
Say it with me: 👏Andrew👏 Rannells 👏was 👏robbed 👏

Indeed. I mean, I don't normally like saying that someone or a specific show should have won an award over whatever did win but I feel like now I've seen it, I can say that Falsettos in general was absolutely robbed at the Tonys that year. I like Gavin Creel and all but...his performance in Hello Dolly compared to *this* ..? I genuinely can't understand how Andrew Rannells didn't win.
Something I thought was really smart was how the first time Marvin and whizzer are playing their sport in this act, whizzer clothes are very firm and the second time they are quite baggy, shows he’s gradually being getting more unwell and losing weight

It's almost embarrassing how much I've come to love that bit of detail. I admit, I got very annoyed with myself on subsequent rewatches for not catching that the first time round. Although I think that during this first time watching that scene, I was still just too busy desperately hoping the show wasn't actually going to take the turn it was to pay close attention to the little details like that.

@@stagerat Another detail that always kills me is how they pull the gravestone at the very end out of the full, finished block, leaving a visible gap. Much like the gap Whizzer has left in their lives and their little family. 😢
Every single time I watch this show, I start crying at "What More Can I Say" and I don't stop til it's over. Needless to say, I can only watch it every few months, I can only afford to be that dehydrated on special occasions

This whole comment is honestly such a mood... Though speaking entirely for myself, I can generally hold off on the uncontrollable weeping until 'Unlikely Lovers'. As soon as that song comes in, I'm instantly reduced to just weeping in a corner.
Genuinely one of the most challenging shows to watch. It's so human and doesn't pull any punches. I love it.
the first time i saw this, i was a complete wreck. i was useless the rest of the day, i was so devastated. even watching this along with you edited down, im a mess of tears

I was crying as I was editing it. Honestly, I was NOT expecting it to get so suddenly upsetting. Up until Something Bad Is Happening, I figured the worst that would happen was that Jason's bar mitzvah would be ruined because of Marvin and Trina's fighting. But then the bombshell dropped and it was just so much worse than anything I thought it would be...
felt so sorry for you knowing what was gonna happen :( I've rewatched Falsettos more times than I can count and I still managed to cry along with you...

I think it's genuinely impossible to not end up crying at some point during Act 2 of this show. I've rewatched Falsettos so many times since uploading this and I'm always weeping by the end.
i still cry whenever i think about how the box coming back together at the end represents marvin's family coming together as he wanted, but there will always be a hole where whizzer used to be
I feel bad not seeing this earlier, but I thought during pride month, I'd check to see if anyone reacted to this again (and oh god I am glad I saw this). I am so happy you caught the implication of Marvin also being infected - it literally chilled me to my core that first watch through. It makes Marvin's little 'they said good men get better with age, I guess we'll just skip that stage' even harder. I'm normally ok through the rewatch until it gets to Jason asking for Whizzer to be spared (I just break like baby). I think a lot of the fandom that is still around just sobs when they think about it. Whizzer and Trina deserved so much better, and I'm glad Marvin got to grow - because he was a jerk. When I first watched the show, I didn't know it was about the AIDS rise, so I had a very similar reaction to the something bad is happening song, I just sat open-mouthed and in horror because I knew it was going to all take a turn.

I love everything about this comment. Jason asking God to save Whizzer is honestly one of the most underappreciated moments of the whole show, in my opinion - it's just so wholesome and devastating and it shows how much Jason has grown as well. And yes, Whizzer and Trina absolutely deserved better. Actually, all of them did; none of them deserved to go through something like that (or potentially have to go through it again if Marvin is infected by the end). I don't think I will ever not get emotional at this show. Also, I am convinced that 'Something Bad Is Happening' is one of the absolute best uses of mood whiplash in a musical. Right behind the transition from 'Epiphany' to 'A Little Priest' in Sweeney Todd. It's just such a hard swerve for the show to make.
I had to watch the legally blonde musical immediately after watching this musical because it completely wrecked me.

literally same, I stayed up to 4am to finish both of them istg
falsettos is my favorite musical of all time, so i would love to see your video on it if you do get around to making it. there’s so much about it that’s so amazing and worth talking about imo. at least i know i’ve definitely talked my friends’ ears off about it before haha

It's definitely become one of my favourite musicals too. I pretty much haven't really stopped thinking about since I made this reaction! My video about it should hopefully be coming soon. I had been planning on having it up at some point this past month but it took longer than I expected to script it (I don't tend to script my videos but there was so much with this show that I want to talk about) and then I got hit with flu so... Hopefully it will be up at some point within the next couple of weeks!
I always cry during act 2, no matter how many times I watch it 😭 And yeah, they deserved all the tonys!!!! They were robbed!!! Tysm for reacting to falsettos, I loved your videos! ❤❤❤
8:50 oh jeez not Caroline 12:39 definitely healthier Time for "I'm ready to go...I'm ready--" 21:36 I need to 37:00 I sung these parts back and forth earlier and tears just spring to my eyes before that

NOW WHY WOULD YOU SAY THIS
it’s heavily implied marvin also dies after the events of the musical btw
Hey wanna make What Would I Do sadder? Whizzer is wearing his costume from the top of the show except his shirt is white instead of green. This could possibly imply that Marvin is already forgetting things about Whizzer

I'm pretty sure it was suppose to show that he is dead to not confuse anyone.
8:49 this is actually a genius fart joke. mendel says “here i sit, broken hearted” which is in reference to a poem that goes “here i sit, broken hearted, had to shit, only farted”
it's 3am, i'm in tears, life is a mess but at least those people can really sing and bless my ears (':
