Another item you may be interested in are the Hockey Night in Canada intros. It's part of Cdn culture where there would always be a hockey game on Saturday night where Cdns would gather to watch it. The original theme is also very iconic here. Even when the Stanley Cup is won by an American team the players have a day with the trophy and many return to their hometown Cdn town where citizens from that city can touch and see the Cup. It links these bigtime hockey players with the communities.

Tim Horton's also sponsors kids soccer. My baby sister was in the Timbits soccer league when she was just wee. I remember going to her first game. I asked "Why is Leah wearing pants and everyone else is wearing shorts?" I about died laughing when I found out she was wearing shorts. Its just that she was so short compared to the other kids, that her knee pads went from the bottom of her shorts past the top of her socks so it altogether looked like pants! 😂

There is a whole other series of Tim’s commercials that feature Sidney Crosby and Nathan MacKinnon together. The two are great buddies and the ads are more on the comical/goofy side. There’s one that stands out in my mind that involves farting goalie pads 😂. It’s actually really cute, but you’d have to see it to fully appreciate it! ps Both Sid and Nate are from Nova Scotia 😁

I am not sure, but I think the commercial that ended with a plea to the NHL was not an official Tim Horton's commercial. It's a valid message though - headshots in hockey have always looked spectacular, but they lead to awful health consequences - and have nothing to do with good play. NHL has always been a "full contact" sport, but attempts to injure have no place in the sport at any level. NHL hasn't always been proactive with respect to player safety, and players frequently have to retire early in their careers because of repeated concussions. There have been great strides made since the 90s to protect players from unsafe play, but there is still more to do. Also - Tim Horton was more than "just a hockey player" - he was one of the best defencemen of his era, and one of the strongest men every to play in the NHL. He started up the chain in the 70s, and it was just starting to spread out from it's Hamilton, Ontario roots when he died after crashing his car on the highway between Toronto and Buffalo - after driving while under the influence. A tragic end to a beloved player in both cities. His number has been retired in Toronto, and he's in the Hockey Hall of Fame. These days, though - most people just know the donut shop, and not the man. Loved your hockey reactions, hope you get back to doing more of them as the season starts.

I agree.. I never saw that on my tv... a convulsing player on the ice is hardly the image any biz would want to be identified with. It may be an important message delivered for a good cause, but I'm pretty sure it doesn't belong in this compilation.

It was a once in a lifetime trip for those players. The commercial is available on youtube as well as a short documentary about the whole experience.

As much as I dislike Tim's as a company, timbits hockey is actually great and pretty much universally celebrated. I was too poor to play ice hockey as a kid (it's generally expensive to participate, especially here in BC where kids have to travel long distances to play games at the rep level.) If I had access to timbits hockey I may have been able to play. Tidbits does a great job of promoting youth sports and also enabling low income families to participate.

I remember my first three years of hockey, ( squirts, atom) I had to use equipment from other people. My mom asked the neighbours, for hand me downs. I got teased in the dressing room, because I was the only one with used equipment. Now, whenever I go to Canadian Tire, I give a few bucks to Jump Start. Hopefully no kid has to endure what I went through!

I've had the pleasure of attending 7 Winnipeg Jets home games. This is actually not easy, in order to prove financial viability for the team to relocate here from Atlanta, the would-be owners decided to sell 13,000 season tickets (for an arena that seats only 15,000). These season tickets sold out in 1 minute. It's almost impossible to get tickets to a game. In fact, there is a monthly 'lottery', where the winner gets to *buy* tickets to a game. Anyways, the timbits come out to play during intermission, and it is very adorable to watch :)

  • @falsfire

I also want to add, you can't match the energy of the crowd at a Winnipeg Jets home game. You can't help but get swept up in it. One of the seven games I watched in person, vs Calgary, we were always down by a goal, and always rallying to tie. We scored one of those incredible late-game goals, a face-off with 2.7 seconds left when we were down by one. We scored off that faceoff, forcing overtime. Overtime was scoreless, and the game went to a shoot-out. I'm sure you've looked at some videos on the NHL shootout on your other channel, so when I say this one took eight rounds you probably get the anticipation and energy, the whole crowd on their feet, cheering as loud as they could...

There was a huge scandal involving Hockey Canada that came to light last year. Tim Horton's who have long been a supporter of all levels of hockey players but they withdrew their sponsorship for the men's hockey. Several allegations of sexual misconduct towards young men. Tim Horton is a legend here at least from people who are old enough or study the history of hockey. He died tragically in his sports car on his way to Buffalo back in the 1970's. I'm too young to remember him playing by a couple of years but he's a legend in Toronto. In 2017 on the 100th Anniversary of the NHL they did a list of the 100 best players in the history of the NHL. He was one of the players mentioned. He was a huge part of the Maple Leafs dynasty of the 1960's. His number has been retired by both the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Buffalo Sabres. It's rare for a player to have a team retire your number but even more rare to have your number retired in more than one city. 4 Stanley Cups, numerous other awards and member of the Hockey Hall of Fame.

LSome of my childhood memories involve hockey . Hockey night in Canada and dad on the living room pounding the floor urging his team to get the puck into the net. I remember how upset my Grandmother was when her doctor advised her not to watch hockey night in Canada he didn’t think her heart could withstand that much stress. I am amazed at how much I know about hockey the names and teams i remember asking Daddy what inning are they playing in the hopes that it would soon be overhe explained that he had no idea so far the teams were tied and it could go into overtime. Disappointing news for me. I have never watched a whole game from the time the anthems were sung and the first puck was dropped and the triumphant teammates gathered to celebrate their victory . Before I was born my mother managed a Girls baseball team . Now that I am in my seventies I watch the Savanna Bananas play the party guys I never watch the live shows to much baseball mixed with the comedy on you tube but I love the shorts . I don’t think I was a major disappointment for my parents 😮maybe perhaps sort of. I can’t sing , skate, throw a ball so it can hit the side of a barn.. the only use I have for hockey sticks is to spell H Edouble hockey sticks. Thank you for the opportunity to share my thoughts on hockey etc. football American style loved seeing men in tight pants in a huddle. Why does anybody watch people chase little white balls. Basketball is slightly better especially when on of the players puts the ball through a hoop, or is it a basket with a graceful shot from some line . I wanted to edit the last line but my fingers are to fat or something there is on when I meant one. . I think Red Green said keep your stick on the ice 👍👍👍🤓🖖🖖🖖👋🏻🧝🏼🤚🏻

The TimBits connection is heart-warming indeed, but even if you know about Tim Horton's hockey antecedents, it's the perfect symmetry of Canadian hockey history these adverts represent that get to me. Horton started his coffee shop not long before dying, way too young, and though he didn't create Tim-Bits that I'm aware of, it's part of the lore of Canuckian Hockey, based entirely on truth, that success in hockey is and always has been a matter of the support family, friends, coaches and so many others that NHL players got on "the way up." Watch some Hockey Hall of Fame acceptance speeches, mind the awkward speaking, and get out your hankies.

Tim Hortons is awful. Their coffee is nasty, their food arrives frozen or freeze dried and is either heated up, or just boiled to reconstitute. They were never great, but they have seriously gone down hill over the years. Their service has also become computerized and totally impersonal. I prefer to drink coffee from a gas station.

Canadians show their love for hockey by building only two NHL arenas in the 21st Century (2004 and 2016). Well, it could be worse; none of the measly three stadiums that seat at least 50K people is under 40 years old.

@@curmudgeonaf - Aww. And voila: Lake Louise is no longer a stop on the annual WC of skiing series; even Mexico will have a bigger share of the '26 FIFA WC; 2030 Winter Olympics hosting bids (Vancouver AND Calgary) went bust sans submissions.

Average Canadians are not responsive for building arenas, it’s up to the owners. NY Rangers are one of the richest franchise in league history, they play in an arena 55 years old, but do continue to comment on shit you know nothing about Dilly dick

Canadian laws prevent cities from paying for stadiums and stuff - that was always the row with expansion in the '90s. An American city could pay for a stadium, pay for roads and infrastructure, give deals on utilities etc. which eft them free to spend their money on players, while Canadian teams hd to raise their own money or investors and whatever was left could be spent on the team. My favourite baseball movie is "Moneyball" - the true story of a a low budget team trying to counter the purchasing power of some clubs.
