There would be more metal and rock if this list included english songs from FInland, because most of famous Finnish metal bands sing in english. We don't really even listen to most of these songs, but this was probably based on listeners on spotify or youtubeviews and not what we really listen to.

This list was only about the songs that are sang in Finnish. Metal and rock is hugely popular in Finland. For example some of Nightwish's videos in KZread have over 40 million views, some even over 100 million views. Haloo Helsinki is one of the most popular bands in Finland. They are a rock/pop band. I'd recommend a song from them called Pulp Fiction. That song is one of their biggest hit. That song was also on this list. It was the number 13. I wouldn’t say that Robin and Ckeek are the most famous artists in Finland, at least not anymore. Cheek is retired and Robin is trying to make an internatiol career singing in English. It's hard to say who could be the most popular right now.... well... Haloo Helsinki is still hugely popular but I wouldn’t sya they are solely the most popular in Finland.... there are many and it depends on who you ask🤷‍♀️ But if you go to spotify, I think the one who have the most listeners (of the ones who sing in Finnish) monthly is a rap duo called JVG... and that is not counting Käärijä (he got big becauseof the Eurovision, but I think his fame might come down.... it has already)

@tuuli4002 I see where you are coming from with that aspect of Käärijä, but personally I would predict him staying on top for quite some time. 🤔 Of course he wouldn't keep all the listeners that brought him the streams from Cha cha cha. That is the breakthrough hit for him, which will probably always be the most streamed one because it had all the fame around the world through Eurovision. But now people know him, and every new song he will release will be recognised in a different way than the older ones. I mean, of course that craziness around Cha cha cha will have to even out, but as he makes more and more new music, people will listen to those. Of course popular artists start to have that many listeners only after they got their first big hit, and collected more streams with every hit released after that. Of course it depends on how people will like the music Käärijä will make from now on, but I'm saying it is too early to draw conclusions quite yet only because people are not listening to CCC quite that much anymore, six months from its peak. Let's give him some time to show what he is about, before judging 😁

Cheek was insanely popular among female listeners, he made very commercial and mainstream songs that often felt really "cheap and cheesy" to many, but sold like hot cakes. Commercially he is easily one of the most successfull Finnish artists domestically, but has almost 0 reach outside of Finland and was not critically very acclaimed. His music is also very divisive (above reasons) so people usually either absolutely hate it or love it to death, the guy filled stadiums in Finland. However, even though many can't stand his music, there aren't many (if any) people who dislike him as a person And for Klamydia, yes, yes it is the same thing 😂 they are a punk rock band feom the 80s

I think Cheek was as popular among male listeners too, just the guys are too cool to show the fandom and it was kind of common opinion to talk trash about his music even though many listened to his songs. There is no denying he did what he did very well - just a matter of taste if you like or dislike the type of music and culture. I personally always saw the self irony in his over the top hip hop masculinity. If one doesnt see the irony, you have to be a true hiphop culture fanboy or you will really hate everything his songs and style represents. Same goes with most other hip hop / rap music too. To date I truly believe there are very few successful hip hop / rap artists who don't have some level of self irony in them. The irony transforms many otherwise toxic songs, styles and lyrics to actually smart and thoughtful. Its too bad we have too many especially young people who listen the music literally and we all can see the consequences.

I don't even think it was that much about Cheek or his music, but people just liked the idea that they all like something together. Being a fan of something successfull makes the fans feel like they've succeeded as well. And most people hated who they chose because it was so cheesy bulk music that got unreasonable success.

They are all the ones that are usually played on the radio, they are not necessarily the most popular, just the most played.

the clips on this video are way too short and badly cut to get any kind of idea of each song. Even for a finnish person who knows almost all of the songs many of the clips a really random pieces of songs - cut from the middle of sentence / chorus. Works as a list for us who already know the songs, but really not as a representation of finnish music for someone new to the subject. Robin and Cheek are very popular in these kind of streaming top lists, as their fan base is in 10-30 year olds, whom are also the biggest users of streamed music. If you look, radio play charts, album charts let alone physical album charts, the list is very different. And yes - metal and rock is big and part of the mainstream in finland, but not quite at the level of finnish schlager or hip hop. I'd say rap/hip hop dominates 0-40 year old demographic and finnish schlager / adult pop dominates in 30- year olds.

Yeah Klamydia as the STD, it's one of the most successful punk-rock bands in Finland. Their lyrics go from humor to really political stuff. And yeah Robin is pretty much the finnish Justin Bieber. Mean while Cheek did dominate the official lists for long time, now he is "retired". I believe these are somehow related to the official lists where metal music is just not represented. Metal is huge in Finland.

Cheek quit few years ago, but yes, he was quite huge when he was active, somewhere between 1998-2018.

My recommendation would be Amorphis. They are the pioneers of melodic metal and their songs are all inspired by Kalevala, Finnish national epic. Amazing melodies, singer's voice is incredible and lyrics are captivating.

Check band called Leevi and the leavings. Something everyone will know in finland and good representation of our melancolly melodys. Maustetytöt (Spice girls in finnish) is maybe something to follow with as they are heavily influenced by Leevi and a still active band.

This video made me realize we have a horrible taste in music. Disposable, generic, cheesy teen pop and crappy rap for the most part. I haven't heard at least half of the songs in the video.

List is pretty off. No metal or rock, none of the older bands or artists like Eppu Normaali, Leevi and the Leavings, Juice Leskinen etc. Seems more like mainstream pop list made in 2000s. Personally only like 3-5 songs out of the whole list I would include on my playlist.

And most of these songs are just playback when played live. Robin was a great surprise to see that he doesn't do playback.

Interesting, haven't even heard most of these songs. Klamydia is indeed named after the STD.

I as a geneneration z finn in turn have heard all of these songs vut that's bc this list is probably made based on Spotify streams so it's pretty understandable that finns my age know these songs better bc we've lived almost only that time when Spotify has been a thing.

Also, these songs are not all time most popular songs or best songs in anyway, but popular songs on spotify and I would say for mostly female listeners. For example, out of the top 10, I have heard only one song before since I haven't listened to POP radio in over a decade Cheek, Robin, Antti Tuisku and Anna Abreu are not artists men usually listen to outside of clubs. They are basically Justin Biebers of Finland in a way, except ofc Abreu, whose music just resonates more with women in general Actually many of the bigger megahits that most Finns loved were closer to the start of that list, not at the top, where it got very over-represented by one target audience

I don't know if the list is official anymore today, but it contained good music😊. Käärijän's Cha Cha Cha alone has more than 115K streams on Spotify As many have already written, a list with more Finnish music in English would be full of metal and heavy music 🤘🖤🤗

NIGHTWISH had 13 number 1 singles in Finland - back when such things actually meant something. They also have more hits on YT & Spotify than all of these artists - by a long way.

To each their own, but I can't stand most of this what I call "radio music". This is why I never listen to radio. Yes, this is probably what teenagers/young people listen to. I listen mainly to different types of metal music and different electronic genres, like psy trance, goa trance, hardcore, hardstyle, industrial electro, aggrotech etc., none of which they play on radio.

No one actually listens to Robin Packalen, except little girls. Even my dad said yestarday that the guy can't even sing. I do not quite get how he is so succesful.

Cheek made massive bank and then retired in his mid 30s five years ago. He was selling out stadiums when he retired. Really nice guy. A couple of years ago I spoke with him briefly on the phone in relation to my work. Not really a fan of his kind of music, though. Haloo Helsinki is a great band, you should check out some of their songs.

It's pretty meaningless list. It only has songs in Finnish. Rock/metal heavy hitters write songs in English.

Cheek he was teen rapper who had luck got good manager and money. he makes few songs every 3-5 years so when he makes new teens go and hype it in sosial media. he allso was lucky and got job in television host and judge in Finish got talent show not so good songs but allmost must hear them in Finland when they are new and teens hype those songs

I think this list is very outdated since it doesnt even have ikuinen vappu which was the most streamed finnish song until this year when Käärijäs CHA CHA CHA came out which has more than 114 million plays on spotify

This list is probably just from 2010's. There should be newer ones like Bess and Erika Vikman if Spotify-list. And where are old ones: even Eppu Normaali has several songs over 10 million streams. And all the songs in english.... Quite a shitty list.

Back in the spring of 2021 I did some research on the history of chart music in Finland. The main conclusion is that there is no objective measure of popularity; every measure favors one or more subsets of artists or bands at the expense of others. This is why you need to use multiple measures. But once you do, you can notice some intriguing patterns. I can provide a short version of my (now outdated) research if someone's interested.

I got my first like which I interpret to mean that someone might be interested. So here's the first measure: most records (singles, albums, EPs etc.) sold in Finland over the entire career (main source: IFPI until 2013/2015). This measure favors the peak record sales era of the 1980s/1990s and is no longer in official use. Oh what a set. In order to relate to this kind of music you have to be born several years after 2000. This is completely kids "music". Out of these 50 specimen there are about half a dozen songs that I can tolerate to listen more than once.

Definitely popular songs all, but you can't really say that those are the most popular songs in Finland just based on those YT views. In all it's difficult to say which music is the most popular in Finland. And those were songs in Finnish and also on those songs some portion of the views comes from outside Finland. Most viewed Finnish song on YT might be Axel Thesleff's 'Bad Karma' with over 600 million (combined) views and most Finns probably haven't even heard of him or that song.

Cheek is retired now. These songs are from the same year or couple years apart. I would not say they are the most popular songs 'ever'. In this time period, yes. Except Klamydia. It was big in the 90's. IDK, before 90's, Finnish music was in the hands of few record labels. Apulanta and other bands started to make their own labels to make music, 'cos the old farts did not want anything to do with music that was not tango, polka or Finnish iskelmä.

I think that list is pretty miss repesenting most of time, First is that Its probably made from listen or something else in spotify etc which is not so popular etc outside younger generation and all older generation song's don't have record like that only how many cd, caset etc they sold so at least myself I don't believe that list to be very accurate. Nearly all top song there was new generation so called party song's or robin who was at some point popular for teen girl which is also song in english to get more out of globalisation of now days. Most of song on that list is song that I have never even heard be it in radio or anywhere else also tells lot about how it even get high. Far as I can analyze those songs like I said some notify list with finnish tag put in listen order nothing else. Haloo Helsinki I can understand they have been around longer and were popular with even older generation when song's came out unlike most of rap style music there which has never been popular pretty much far as I know outside of late gen z and new generation after them.

Yes and no. While I agree that the list seems to focus on metrics that heavily favours music that younger generations (particularly women) listen, and seem to be a sample size of listens from only a certain time period However, if you want to get a feel to what music has been popular/mainstream in Finland in the past 10 years, I think this list does a pretty ok job, especially when comparing to the previous video he reacted to Hard to find a metric that would include all music genres/mediums in a fair and comprehensive manner. ps. Also please use paragraphs, walls of text like that are extremely hard to read -》 99% will skip it

these songs are definitely based on music video views, not listens and very 2000s and 2010s

Checked the original video to see from the description on how the list was gathered - it looks like there was no real statistical method or a reliable source behind the list. I think the youtuber just gathered sogs he or she liked and thought were popular (probably a Cheek fan, eh), and then checked the (Spotify) stats for those to come up with an order for the chosen songs. The author even added a comment giving an additional list of songs that he/she had forgotten from the "top 50". So it sounds like this list really is just as meaningless as it appeared to be at first glance.

Like in any country, all the good songs have been made so long time ago that the kids today have no idea. And because they've grown with this shit their brains have been injured permanently and they'll never will understand what good music sounds like. No autotune, dynamics, huh!

As finnish i can confirm barely anyone listens to robin and cheek nowadays. People mainly hate them for being insanenly garbage now. Petri Nygård is pretty famous and loved right now, atleast in here where i live.

I never watch these Finnish top music lists since my taste is totally different from the main stream Finnish listener. I disliked or down right hated every song on this list. 😅 Metal and rock all the way. 🤘

That is streaming, which means it is biased towards teens.. heavily. I doubt anyone over 30 listens to Robin.

I dont know where this list is from. These are definately popular artists and songs, but it seemed very one sided genre-wise. Only pop and rap. Maybe someone knows where this is taken from?

Robin and Cheek are not the most popular ones in Finland-they're just the ones our media is brining to the awareness of young people over and over again. Our country is actually going in ruins just as any other.. so if you want to learn about Finland, don't search any music after 2015-you'll find the same all over the world. You should look for 'Finlandia' etc. if u want to know, what Finland and it's people used to be. Sadly and very soon, they will nolonger be among us. RIP Finland and it's incredilble talents.

Amount of streams is such an odd way of seeing who's the most popular. It's more like who's got the most fanatic fans. Back when CDs and cassettes were a thing, they didn't count how many times you listened to it, so obviously music from that era can't compete with these numbers.
