I don't think I've ever seen him play the accordion or hurdy gurdy. But that doesn't mean he can't.

Well, if you think about it: elan does mean vigor, dash, spirit, or, if you will, inner strength. The text itself also talks about good things. "Come to Life" "Travel with great élan" etc. It is an uplifting title, text and melody. Anyway, I am glad for you, that this song helped you overcome that devil called depression. I've been there, too, couple of years ago.

There is some lyrical cross-overs with Elan and How's the Heart, nice easter egg: Elan: "...It feeds from the runs undone Meet me where the cliff greets the sea" How's the Heart: "We met where the cliff greets the sea Shared a story, took the leap"

I saw them in concert 10 days after the Bataclan attacks. I had made a sign with Elan's words "Come to life, open mind, have a laugh at the orthodox". I put the sign up right when Floor was singing it. She gave me a thumbs up and so did Emppu, Troy and Marko (Tuomas and Kai couldn't see me). Floor came back to me during the chorus for another thumbs up. Everyone around me was wondering what on earth I had written on my sign to get all these reactions from the band. 😂 But I knew I had written it regarding the attacks and I think they understood it that way. It was a nice connecting moment which suited the song quite well.

The official Video has 71 million views. About Floor, she is truly a supremely gifted storyteller. Love this song.

Tuomas must really love piano intros because a LOT of Nightwish songs begin exactly like this. To me it's reminiscent of Nemo, but only because both begin with piano (as does Greatest Show on Earth, but it was written after these two). Oh. and because for me Nemo was the first song I've ever heard from Nightwish and Elan was the first song I've heard that was written with Floor's voice in mind as the new vocalist.

There is a connection between this song and How's The Heart from Human nature. Elan: Meet me where the cliff greets the sea. How's the heart: We met where the cliff greets the sea. (in the verse which Tuomas wrote for Floor anyway)

Markos high Voice during her Chorus are chilling. Goosebumps

My favorite Nightwish song. The melody is just so beautiful but the same way so simple and that in my opinion is Tuomas greatness in writing music. Can't wait for this 🙂

@@randominc.2251 That was April 2015. I’m out of trucking for a few reasons. My trainer has 35 years experience. Also, my dad was California Highway Patrol for 30 years starting in 1971 & taught me how to navigate old school 😉 Stay safe 😎👍

Elan is one of my favourite Nightwish song. The build up to the chorus always, instinctively, makes me take a deeper breath. As if a gust of fresh air hit me. Every damn time, man.

I think it is actually (in both cases a reference) to Floor meeting her husband... Just like in How's the heart the verse "now there's one who came from me" is meant to be Floor's daughter. Toumas puts several such references for the band members into the songs

You're correct with both Troy and Marko doing backing vocals in the chorus! Marko is sustaining those long notes you hear, while Troy is singing the main melody, an octave below Floor. :) They do the same on the studio version. Love this tune, it's such an uplifting piece! I share your appreciation of Troy too - I don't think there's anything that man can't play! Watch him bring something crazy like a hurdy-gurdy into the band next. Wouldn't surprise me!

Looking forward to this one. A good vibe song with a catchy melody. A song to play to convert non-symphonic metal fans to the genre. "Raise the glass, taste the wine etc..."

I never thought that watching someone react to one of my favourite bands would become my weekly routine, but here I am, lol. Spot on Chase - you only gets the full effects and experience being there on the concerts. They are so taking you in, the 3 in front, Empphu and Marco always talking to you - and Floor also, without leaving anybody out. They are masters in getting the distance from crowd to stage disappear - you feel them, connecting to the songs and getting dragged into the Nightwish Universe. They are special on stage, compared to many other bands - not all, but many. They are so human and relaxed, having WITH you. Great reaction from you again 👍 🤘

This song always puts a smile on my face. It's wonderful!

The one thing that strikes me through all of these songs is how graceful Floor is in all her movements. Such a classic line she has. Seems a bit atypical for a woman of her stature. And you're correct - they create an experience that's unequalled.

This song was the first ive listened with Floor as lead singer of Nightwish..

The official video is one of their most viewed and I think that's because it's fun, upbeat, and while it's not super deep or overly complex musically that's ok because it's very catchy and accessable to a lot of people and it still has enough going on like the key changes to make it more than just some kind of formulaic overly derivative pop song or whatever.
