It's not only a tongue twister, but also a sort of "showcase" of the german language's ability to build compound words from more than two parts - like e.g. the _Rhabarberbarbarbarenbartbarbierbier_ which translates to "the beer of the barbier for the beards of barbarians from the rhubarb bar"

It is all correct. It Is based on a tongue twister for stuttering ppl to practice normal talking. But they sort of made their own lyrics and very groovy beats to it.

Bodo Wartke is part of a German poetry school that goes back to al least Heinrich Heine 200 years ago (if not even Goethe), over Christian Morgenstern and Erich Kästner to Robert Gernhardt and others. Wartke is probably the youngest well-known person to continue this tradition of comically playing with rhymes and rhythm of the German language, often paired with a clear political position against oppression and supporting human rights (Heine, Kästner, Gernhardt and also Wartke are very often political). Rap, though definitely not a German invention, just fits perfectly to support the humor in it. The basis is an encompassing knowledge of the language and its vocabulary, a vocabulary that does not rhyme naturally very often.

And Body Wartke can do so much more! He took 2 literature classics, Oedipus and Antigone, and made 2 genius plays out of it by writing a screenplay and modern songs for them, and he was even acting in it as well! But not only was he brilliantly acting one of the roles, but all of the roles!!! (At least in case of Oedipus). I saw Oedipus and was blown away and laughing my freaking head off! It was just so good!!! He only used very few requisites, but he used a clever way of distinguishing between the roles: He'd put on a cap a certain way or some other single accessories and use a certain accent for each role. So the play was a combination of acting and songs. The best one man show I've ever seen! Everything was on point! (His motivation 4 doing this: 'It's such a pity that those great stories r written in this old way of speaking no one really understands anymore'). I just love him 😍

Marti Fischer is a music producer and a musical genius. He did a lot of videos in which he explains different musical styles by reconstructing them himself on the fly, and that contains anything from Rammstein to John Williams. I'm not sure if there are any of these videos with subtitles, but they're pretty awesome. If you feel brave enough to check it out without subtitles (maybe outside the channel) you definitely should. This guy is next level because he's versatile as hell and can do anything. He was the one who composed this song while Bodo was more or less the mind behind the lyrics.

It is a german tounge twister. Here the english version. In a small village there once lived a girl with the name Barbara. Barbara was known in the entire area for her excellent rhubarb pie. Because everyone liked eating Barbara’s rhubarb pie so much, they called her Rhubarb Barbara. Rhubarb Barbara soon realized that she could make money with her rhubarb pie. Therefore she opened a bar: The Rhubarb Barbara Bar. Of course there were soon regular customers in the Rhubarb Barbara Bar. The most famous among them, three barbarians, came so often to the Rhubarb Barbara Bar in order to eat of Rhubarb Barbaras rhubarb pie, that they soon were called the Rhubarb Barbara Bar Barbarians. The Rhubarb Barbara Bar Barbarians had wonderful thick beards. When the Rhubarb Barbara Bar Barbarians wanted to tend to their Rhubarb Barbara Bar Barbarian beards, they went to the barber. The only barber who could work on a Rhubarb Barbara Bar Barbarian beard of course wanted to highlight that and named himself the Rhubarb Barbara Bar Barbarian Beard Barber. The Rhubarb Barbara Bar Barbarian Beard Barber knew from the Rhubarb Barbara Bar Barbarians about Rhubarb Barbara’s marvelous rhubarb pie and always drank a beer with it that he lovingly called Rhubarb Barbara Bar Barbarian Beard Barber Beer. The Rhubarb Barbara Bar Barbarian Beard Barber Beer could only be purchased at a very special bar. The saleswoman of the Rhubarb Barbara Bar Barbarian Beard Barber Bier at the Rhubarb Barbara Bar Barbarian Beard Barber Bier Bar was called Bärbel. After pruning the Rhubarb Barbara Bar Barbarian Beards, the Rhubarb Barbara Bar Barbarian Beard Barber mostly with the Rhubarb Barbara Bar Barbarians went to the Rhubarb Barbara Bar Barbarian Beard Barber Bier Bar to Rhubarb Barbara Bar Barbarian Beard Barber Bier Bar Bärbel in order to take her along to the Rhubarb Barbara Bar in order to eat some of Rhubarb Barbara’s superb rhubarb pie. Cheers.

I have to say, I used to like the original (?) "poem" more, because it goes much deeper into the concept of crafting a compound noun with words similar to "rhubarb"... But I'm warming up to the song, of course it's undeniably a slappin' banger :) Would recommend watching the original(?) poem/story video, it has cute little drawings accompanying it, and the crazy words are spelled out :)

The song is based on a German tongue twister that makes fun of German grammar and its compound words. In German, you can describe everything using compound words, where words are combined to form a new one. It can be almost endless. For example, a glove is called a "Handschuh," which means "a shoe for the hands." You probably know "kindergarten" from German, which translates to "a garden for children," a place where children are taken care of and nurtured. A dermatologist is a "Hautarzt" (a doctor for the skin), and a pediatrician is a "Kinderarzt" (a doctor for children). You can translate every Latin name for a doctor into "a doctor + for what/whom" to express it in German. The tongue twister plays with this concept, and alliterations with B as well as building compound words that are based on the bar owner's name Barabara or words that sound similar. And yes, the sentence at 3:09 is, in fact, one word! :-D There is also a part two of this song. After the song and the accompanying dance went viral, people kept asking what happened to Bärbel, another character from the tongue twister. Bodod and Marty tell that story, too. In my opinion, part 2 is even better as it contains many puns and references to German (rap) songs, particularly to one of my all-time favorites "Die da?!" by Die Fantastischen Vier. They had their breakthrough with that song and still perform in fully sold-out arenas to this day. Check out that song "Die da?!" if you like rap. (Die Fantasistischen Vier also wrote a song call "MfG" that makes fun of all the German abbreviations since it was very popular at that time to abbreviate almost everything. The early Deutschrap was just meant to be funny but also called out society too, before it became more critical and serious, too. [I would LOVE; LOVE, LOVE your reaction to "Fettes Brot - Bettina" It was completely new and rebellious for music at the time and paved the way for German rap to gain popularity. Bodo and Marty recorded the makings of "Barbaras Rhabarberbar I + II", they are also available, it is pure joy to watch them creating those songs.

The trick of this song is taking german compund nouns to level 11. They introduce more and more concepts and persons having the syllable bar in it until they arrive at: Rhabarberbarbarbarenbartbarbier, which translates to 'beard barber of the rhubarb bar barbarians'. Which sounds silly, but is actually a Gramatically legit german word.

This is based on a well established German tongue twister based on the two words "Barbara" (the female name) and "Rhabarber" (=rhubarb). A silly little game/exercise in Germany is to repeat the word "Rhabarber" as often and quickly as you can without a pause. It will soon sound like you are repeating "Barbara" instead. And it also works the other way round: If you start with "Barbara" it will sound like "Rhabarber". So, at some point somebody must have noticed that there are more words with the syllable "bar" in it. For starters "Bar" means "bar" (where you buy drinks or something to eat). But there's also "Barbar" = "barbarian" and "Barbier" = "barber". Also, "Barbier" happens to split into "Bar" and "Bier" (=beer) which evokes more puns. Then there is also "Bärbel", a diminuitve form of "Barbara". But that only comes up in the extended version of this song. Which you should check out as well, it is even better :)

It's a tongue twister that emphasises German's compound words. Nouns could technically be endlessly long because you are able to add more and more context. lip stick: Lippenstift lip stick remover oil pads : Lippenstiftentferneröltücher And in the same way a lot of the words in the tongue twister become longer and longer while also being a tongue twister for example: Rhabarberbarbarabarbarbarenbartbarbierbierbar

Marti Fischer - He is the real hero. He has his own channel with music. His series "Wie geht Musik?" is the best. A style of music, a genre, is always taken, explained and broken down into its components. Then he makes a song of that style on the computer using samples he has recorded himself and usually follows it with a music video. It's interesting when you see how music is constructed and how simple some top 10 hits are. A good producer who knows what a chord, a third, fifth or triad is can write something like that in 10 minutes, the artist sings with autotune and is admired by millions. One clip was about the Beatles and people believed that the song he had created was really by the Beatles. This music was more difficult for him to analyze, but he mixes together what's on the radio these days like a pancake.

i try to give a germans view to bodo wartke, the pink guy. he is pure talent, intelligence, a verry smart and deep level of humor. he takes your brain and forces it to think about what he is saying, nothing else is possible! he talks about simple stuff, every day stuff, and more. his angels are from a kind persons point, and i really like it! it is cleverly rhymed and makes the inside of your skull itch --> there is no other way to describe his art! is know plenty of videos of him, you need to go down this rabbit hole, do it!! learn from it, listen to it, go along with the ride he takes one on!! plenty of happiness incoming, enjoy! *videos as comments under this comment...

Saying that's a "rap" is like saying Italy copied the United States' monumental architecture. The word is "Sprechgesang". Yes, also in English.
