Thanks for this video Liz. Angelina at her core, is a jazz singer, but can sing just about any genre. I like to think her "Old Enough" EP is the start of what will, in the future, be known as 'the Angelina genre".

Liz, if we are watching Angelina on a video (or a LIVE performance!) before she sings a note we are already into her world. Everything about her reflects a love so endearing we don't try to figure out what is going on. And then when she begins to sing, for those few moments the world around us disappears. Example: Picture yourself, let's say in a crowded airport. A lot of hustle and bustle going on around you and you have a lot on your mind. All of a sudden, amid all the noise, something is telling you, "I think I hear Angelina singing!" You're standing still trying to listen to where the sound of her voice is coming from. People are bouncing off you left and right but that's not important, "I can hear Angelina's voice!" And then her voice fades away. "Wow", you thought, "That was unbelievable!" Suddenly, someone comes up to you and says, "Excuse me, are you alright?" You look at that person and say (with a smile on your face), "Oh, I'm fine! Never felt better!"

Hi Liz. I love your heartfelt reviews and your obviously warm and endearing personality. Yes, jazz is her foundation, but she is brilliant in several other genres, including blues, pop, angelina, rock and even country (she killed Patsy Cline's "Crazy") etc. Oh, you weren't aware of a music genre called "angelina"? Oh yes, there is now, because our brilliant, incomparable, amazing, beautiful, loving, compassionate, mega-talented angel is in a class of her own.

When you take someone who had an immediate love of music when she exited the womb, actually performing a Whitney Houston song in her mom's bed, while manipulating a 'hand mic' at the age of 1-1/2, you come to realize the 'fire' in her. Add to this that Billie Holiday's inventive, improvisational music totally enveloped her being early in her life, you can understand why she said, 'if not for Billie, there would be no Angelina'. Now, at 18, with more than 16 1/2 years of experience of singing a multitude of different genres that she applies all the elements learned from Billie's unique singing to, the result is someone who has the chance to rule the world of musicality for an infinite amount of years to come, especially when you factor in her level of vocal excellence that includes being to apply her 'vocal chameleon' ability to emulate any singer's vocals she may desire to apply in her singing.

I like this documentary, but I miss references to Angelina's charitable streak. But nice documentary. Liz, I think Angelina has her roots in jazz, which certainly has a lot to do with her grandmother. But of course I agree that she can sing basically anything, and how she can! The Angelina phenomenon is based on many of her great qualities, and everything she touches becomes art. As always, nice reaction!🥰💯

I'd agree, that while she is deeply rooted in jazz, calling her a jazz singer would not be accurate. Just look at her 3rd co-written original Shield, her 4th and 5th original songs (written for her, Song For A and Above The Water), and her 6th original Million Miles: non of those are jazz songs! She called 7th Heaven jazz pop, then We're The Best was not, and while her EP had some jazz vibes, it goes way beyond that. And from the Artists she covered most often, only Amy Winehouse was a mainly jazz artist, Adele, Elvis and Sam Smith are not.

When she tells you that if not for Billie Holiday, who was 'by far' the most inspirational jazz singer of all time, there would be no Angelina Jordan, it's clear that her implementation of jazz related elements learned from Billie are at the foundation of all genres she performs.

@@ridgemanron That's why I started my comment with "deeply rooted in jazz" But so also is e.g. R&B. It is just my opinion that it would be more appropriate to call somebody mainly performing R&B songs an R&B artist rather than a jazz artist. Now, I don't know what genre(s) Angelina will mainly perform in in the future. I just don't think that jazz singer will be an appropriate designation, as it will lead to the wrong expectations on the side of of people not knowing her yet. And, as said above, that's in my opinion already true for describing "Old Enough".

Angelina is a jazz singer who rarely sings jazz. In other words she uses classic jazz phrasing and tempo changes because that's how she has trained herself, but she doesn't limit herself to jazz as such. A modern example of a Genz doing strictly jazz is Laufey. Angelina is a beautiful unicorn ( as another fan has rightly said). Jazz is not her only tool in her belt, but her heart is clearly rooted there.

She released "Our time", used in the SoFi commercial, she sang at the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony and also released a Christmas album. Admittedly with only one new song, "Driving home for Christmas".
