About "have you ever fired a gun?", as Finland is a conscription country most men above the age 18 have had firearms training and have shot with an assault rifle during their service time in military.

Yes. Whenever you see a Finnish man, you are looking at a well trained soldier. Practically every Finnish man can handle an assault rifle, hand grenades, light anti-tank weapons, sub-machine guns, pistols, machine guns, bolt action sniper rifles, mortars etc. - and nowadays ever growing number of Finnish women have volunteered to join the army and thus, have the same skills.

When i was in a army on finland. There werent many females. So cool time have changed. We need more woman power in the world 😊
"Extreme weather conditions experienced in the north"... This made me laugh so much. 😂 Weather has nothing to do with it. There is less jobs and just couple universities. When paper industry etc. "old world industries" started it's decline, many got laid off and they started to move into bigger cities after work.
The gun ownership average is a bit strange though. Most people dont have guns, nobody moves around town armed or carrying a gun. But there are people who hunt thst own several guns that raises the average. Like my chilhood family, two shotguns, small calibre rifle for birds, two larger calibre rifles (very old +newer) for moose huntig plus a marksmanship pistol. So 2 guns per person, all locked up excep on hunting trips or going to range for practice.

High ownership average, very low gun related crime rate. I guess having proper weapon regulation laws does pay off 😊
Mixed feelings about Nokia. Proud of its rise, sad because of its fall.
There are a lot of hunting weapons in Finland, but the citizens also have a lot of hobby weapons and spoils of war handed down from wartime generations. I personally own 4 guns, 3 handguns and a semi-automatic rifle. In addition, family heirlooms include 4 rifles, 2 shotguns and a competition .22 LR. 3 other friends of mine also have semi-automatics

I live in Tampere which has about 250 hundred inhabitants and I don't know any person who owns a gun.
NOKIA is at first a village near Tampere - there was a rubber-boot-maker, who shared his earning with his workers and the people of Nokia, by founding an "Aktiengesellschaft", all his workers were shareholders of this industrial Production. Then they added tires to their productlist, later electronics, handys and wireless net for handy-communication, with which products NOKIA made a worldwide breakthrough...
We (wife & I) only have one car but two saunas, one at home and one at the summer cottage which is by the lake. The best Finnish metal bands in my opinion are Amorphis, Wintersun, Insomnium and Nightwish.
Mikkeli and Savonlinna are beautiful cities here in eastern-Finland.
as a person from Naantali, this "sleepy head" thing... its actually big celepration for the most mvp bisnes person that brought people to Naantali.. tourist you know.. and then we trow he or she in to water to honor him or she for the bisnes that they made for that year.
@mertfin I really love listening to your Scottish accent! That's one of the main reasons I keep coming to watch your videos (besides of the content concerning Finnish things). Aye! Keep up the good work ma freen 😊👍 Greetings from Finland 🇫🇮❤️🏴

100% agree! That Scottish accent sounds so good! it's very powerful, melodic and it has a rhythm. Music to my ears! It's like heavy metal - great sound!
A thing about Antti Herlin is that at least I rarely hear anything about him, and I guess Finns have neutral opinions on him, because he is presented very rarely in news and other media, and that way he isn't a really well known person. He just happens to be very rich, and apparently doesn't make a fuss about it!
Pekka Haavisto is also running for president in Finland! He´s got my vote!

I'm a Savonian from eastern Finland. I do hunt and own guns, I'm also thinking about buying another gun. During my time in the defence forces, I've fired few types of guns. About coffee consumption, I do not consider myself to be a hardcore coffee drinker, I drink about 3-5 cups/ day, sometimes 10, other days 0...

I have not been involved in hunting myself. But in my youth it was a thing we relatieves gathered together to eat elk/mooze meat after a hunt. Pretty common in finland.
So they named a few Finnish metal bands, but since we have so few (?) they chose to include two pop/rock bands (The Rasmus ans Sunrise Avenue) and one EDM/techno/industrial artist (Huoratron). HIM most certainly started with metal but have drifted away from it after the early days. Apocalyprica is a cello band that started with a Metallica cover album, but I wouldn't really consider them a metal band. So, the makers of this video were able to name a total of two metal bands 😂
President Kekkonen also showed Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip the Finnish forest. A Finnish log cabin was built on Her Majesty's Balmoral Castle estate. Not sure if that cabin had a sauna, though: "Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip in Finnish forest | not an ordinary state visit". President Kekkonen is whispering something about Koskenkorva vodka, so Queen Elizabeth II probably got some of that too: "Koskenkorva - Vodka from a Village". Some year's earlier president Kekkonen visited the UK in a slightly different setting: "Finnish State Visit (1969)". About president Kekkonen's career: "Kekkonens Nightmare":
I started going hunting with my grandfather when I was 3 years old. I got my hunters license when I was 10 years old, the test is pretty hard because you have to read a pretty big book of hunting laws, and much bigger book of hunting, animals etc. I used to own several guns, 2 different caliber riffles and 12 gauge shotgun. But I don't have guns anymore. People do hunt a lot here, especially the ones who lives in rural areas.
Our president Sauli Niinistö is such a loved person. He is so down to earth. You should react to him if theres any video existing of him ❤ if i find one, ill link it

Urho Kaleva Kekkonen was president for 25 years. He took Soviet diplomats to sauna and kept them there until a deal had been reached. Them being Russians.. well, they could not step out without losing their "man card", so it was either accept the deal or continue the quite literal whipping...
RE: Nokia, we look back fondly on the days when Nokia was a big player in mobile phones. Nowadays they’re a big provider of mobile networking and 5G equipment.
Could you please react to "Finland 🇫🇮 in Eurovision Song Contest (1961-2023)"?
Hunting, army, russians, whatever, we got guns. Handguns at streets, not so much
I went target shooting with my dad and granddad from a young age. Air pistols, semi autos and revolvers. Of course in the army there was the assault rifle 😅
Good video again
I myself have only heard about those weird holidays from these kinds of videos, but otherwise have no idea if they're celebrated or not. Like I truly have never even heard of those days from anywhere else than these videos. So at least here where I live they clearly aren't a thing. Don't know if they're celebrated in other parts of Finland then.

Yes, those were weird. I've never heard of the husky day nor about a failure day. And saying that the last to wake up is thrown in the lake on unikeonpäivä in every household is a pure lie, even if the custom is at least known to most Finns I think.
I have fired a gun. A lot of shooting in the army and my special training there was as a sniper. Many repetitions after that. In Finland, we are prepared for all kinds of threats from the east.
My experience of guns comes from gun sports, conscription and plenty of gun owning friends. I don't own a gun. The gun laws are so strict, I find it not worth the hassle. Knives I have plenty, most of them gifts.
I don't hunt but I have a 9mm pistol and a .357 mag S&W Highway Patrolman revolver.

Cone is best company in world.
the reason there are a lot of guns is because they have a very dangerous neighbour they have a long border with Russia and they were already invaded in the past (and won) that's why there is military conscription and many civilians are trained in using firearms. It's important to notice that contrary to what happens in the USA in Finland violence and criminality are not a problem probably because firearms are not owned as toys or to have fun but because of necessity.
@punkjay4681

The reason the are a lot of guns is because of hunting. We don't own guns for personal protection. The army is a different matter altogether. What do you mean "many civilians are trained in using fireaems"? That's not really a thing. People mostly learn to use firearms in the army. With the exception of people who start a hunting/target shooting hobby in a younger age.

Sanna Marin is probably the best known being now ex prime minister.
"Useless fact" Scenery at the beginning with red buildings + bridge is Jyväskylä (middle Finland) and the red buildings was school buildings, not sure if they have finished the renevations. Passport thing is not right. We have only 3rd best passport in the world. Fired a gun in a army, but doesnt want to kill anything, so doesnt hunt.
Lots of guns but also very regulated and difficult to own. I know people that have 4 saunas, 2 indoors, one outside, 4th is in their summer cottage. I have seen RVs with built in saunas, only in here. This "weird holidays" is total BS, no idea where they pulled that out. 20 years without coffee, but already started again.. NOkia is not big anymore since they fked up with Microsoft plus bad decisions. Still doing research and development, and even they make phones, abroad only. Finns play low, billionaires live among us with low profile, we don't even know who they are. Its their choice. Finland is ranked as the happiest in the world, was missing from the list. Also high suicide rates, but lets keep the list positive...
