I like both bands , but am a bit biased, being a big BRMC fan. BRMC has a good mix of punk , hard rock and psychedelia at times. Psycho Candy is indeed a must listen. A bit of trivia, Robert Been of BRMC is the son of Micheal Been leader of The Call who had some success in the 80s. My go to album by BRMC is usually their sophomore release in 2003 “ Take Them On, On Your Own”.

BRMC are a great band but they wouldn't exist in the form they do if they weren't in their bedrooms pumping the Jesus and Marychain while rock n roll dreams rushed through their head as kids.
The Jesus and Mary Chain all the way 100%. They were one of the first of the shoegazing bands. When I got the first BRMC album I thought they ripped a lot from JaMC and couldn’t or wouldn’t listen to it again.

Got to love BRMC lovely down and dirty rock, and the post punk sound of The Jesus and Mary Chain, both love the fuzz box on the guitar, this one is a close one, for me I have to disagree and give it to BRMC by whisker, the Jesus and Mary Chain was just a bit harsher at the top end made it a harder listen, but I agree the lyrics are better from the Jesus and Mary Chain.

If you would give another chance to BRMC, try "Howl", pretty different, it's more of an acoustic, mellow sound, but still dirty rock and roll with great songs. Very good album.

Most definitely a departure and it has grown on me a bit , but still my least favorite BRMC album.
