I am sorry for your sister and friend. As you said we are all impacted by this scourge, one of my very best friend died last year from Cancer, and another one is fighting it as we speak (hopefully he will win this one). This song from Stromae also impacts me deeply, he is never afraid to address the most important topics in his songs, and he does that as a god of words. Just an example here: he is playing with the close sonority in french of "Quand c'est" (when is it?) and "Cancer". He is also the one directing everything in his videos, so all the ideas from this incredible videos are his I believe. I agree with you, STROMAE is surely the best artist in the world today !

I absolutely love Te Quiero, the video where he stands in an empty hangar. Poignant. And any song from his very first album is a masterpiece of oldschool brilliance.

When he's speaking about his mom and dad it's not his personal experience and that the amazing about him. He can feel the pain and exorcice it even if he is not living it but contemplating it around him.

He plays with words a lot. Quand c'est (when is it) sounds a lot like Cancer in French. You don't pronounce the "st" at the end of quand c'est. Two years ago I was diagnosed with brain cancer. There currently is no cure for that and so I have no idea how much longer I have. This song makes me cry every time I see it, but it's good because that's a way that I can express what I'm feeling on the topic. Oh and small fun detail: Stromae is Maestro but in reverse syllables. (stro mae -> mae stro). I would say he is a master indeed in what he does.

Paul Van Haver is just like Paul (the Zone 51 movie), he has the unique ability to show us the world as it is while helping us to overcome hardships by putting thoughtful words on them. That stunlock at the end of the song, tho... but perfectly justified when it hits home. Stromae is also showing his absolute hatred for this disease by introducing the song like cancer is some sort of rapist who can attack anyone anywhere. When you were talking about your sister I immediately related because I lost an aunt who was kinda "weird" (if this word has any meaning in this crazy world) but also compassionate and caring. You might have a poker face but I can see you're kind hearted.
