So if my translation is correct, it’s about a beautiful young woman, who’s mother died when she was born. Her brother is also dead and her stepmother asked her to go to the Kings castle and get fighting gear so she could revenge her brother. The kings gard gave her everything she asked because they liked her (the best). She also got dressed in wolf-fur. She red into the forest and met 9 riding women. Her stepmother also came riding. She killed the person who killed her brother (the woman in blue coat), ripped her heart out, and got her revenge («drink my brothers blood»). Please correct me or add more Iif you have a different analysis:) PS: The coolest part is this is a more than 1000 years old Norwegian folk-tale from the stoneage and possibly a true story!

Her brother is alive. When her stepmother turns her into a wolf he says she will remain a wolf until she tastes her brother’s blood. Essentially the stepmother wants the sister to kill her own brother. What a loving stepmother her father chose, right?

@@ladythalia227 I agree. In my understanding she ends up killing her stepmother, drinking her blood instead.

@@ahkkariq7406 ... the stepmother was also pregnant, with a son... so, by killing the stepmother in the end, the wolf-lady also tastes the blood of her half-brother breaking the curse

She is not singing in Old Norse, but in Nynorsk which is one of Norways languages. We have Bokmål, Nynorsk and lots of different Sami languages. Even if Nynorsk is less used it is still something we learn in school!

Since you enjoyed this, I highly recommend to check out the clips on their official youtube-channel, especially the live-clips of "Rideboll & Gullborg" and "Knut liten". And for what might be one of their most impressive live-performances (don't do what their guitarist does in the second half of this clip at home!), watch the following live-clip of "Margit Hjukse": kzread.info/dash/bejne/gaKCzKSsZriynKg.html (already the studio version of this song is nearly 9 minutes long) And if you like Gåte, you might also like the band of John Stenersen, the guy who played nøkkelharpe (English: keyed fiddle) in their performance of "Ulveham" (he also played with them on their Norwegian tour a few months ago). His band is called Bergtatt (i.e. "enchanted" and literally "taken by the mountain") and even though their second and so far last album "Lagnadsoger" was already released in 2013, they still do exist. If you are willing to give them a try, I suggest the song "Huldra". (Gåte also have a song with the same title, but it's an entirely different song.) There is also a videoclip with an entire live concert they played in Hungary in 2016. On their debut "Røtter" which features a nearly entirely different line-up, including a different female singer, the metal influences are stronger than on "Lagnadsoger", and there is even on song, titled "Daudens klør" (i.e. "death's claws"), which qualifies as Doom Metal.
