“TIME” SONG FACTS (source: wikipedia)
-Lyrics written by Roger Waters.
-The lyrics deal with the passage of time. Waters got the idea when he realised he was no longer preparing for anything in life, but was right in the middle of it. He has described this realisation taking place at ages 28 and 29 in various interviews.
-It is noted for its long introductory passage of clocks chiming and alarms ringing. The sounds were recorded in an antique store made as a quadrophonic test by engineer Alan Parsons, not specifically for the album.
-The album track also includes a reprise of the song "Breathe". It is the only song on the album to credit all four principal members for songwriting, and last to do so in the band's discography.
PINK FLOYD FACTS
-Formed in London, England in 1964
-Members as of the release of this song:
David Gilmour - Vocals & Guitar
Roger Waters - Bass Guitar & Vocals
Nick Mason - Drums
Richard Wright - Keyboards & Vocals

Remember -- this was written by 20-somethings. It sounds like it was written by someone who had a lifetime of experience already behind them. So wise. When you hear it in your 20s, it shakes you by the shoulders, screaming, "Wake up before it's too late!" When you hear it again 20, 30 years later -- and especially if you have regrets (who doesn't?), it's a wholly different animal; Absolutely gut-wrenching

The "softly spoken magic spell" is a reference to a prayer. The singer's sober observation takes an almost somber dig - tempered with poignant understanding and compassion - at people desperate not to see the inevitability of things coming to an end and pain and loss in this life, and saying the "magic spell" to keep them from suffering.

I was blessed to have seen Pink Floyd. 1994 Pontiac Silverdome. My wife was 7mo. pregnant with our son, so she held a pillow over her tummy when it got really loud. It was the only time they played the entire Darkside of the Moon album in concert since the Darkside tour in the 1970s. In an interview, Gilmore and Wright said they did it because we were the best audience of their entire tour. Of the hundreds of concerts I have seen, Pink Floyd is number one top of the list. 😊✌️

I find this montage of Floyd quite revealing to see such an emotional release to the many listeners on the video. Some to actual tears and others you can see on their faces the inner contemplation of the reality of life and how quickly it has passed them by to this point in their lives. I'm 67 years old now. The sun has raced up behind me many times now and I am certainly so much closer to death these days. This and many others was the music of my generation and to see how you youngsters are so very moved by music like this and jamming on in the background giving it such high praise makes me laugh almost ironically because when my generation listens to your music we can't wait to turn it off in disgust for the most part because we have actually been exposed to real musical talent over fifty years ago and watching your enlightened awareness and enjoyment is of no surprise to us. Enjoy away and be transformed. On the brighter side music arrangement and composition is infinite from 8 simple notes there's still much music to come and I believe that the greatest music ever written hasn't even been composed yet. I will probably be long gone by then, dead and buried, but I already envy the living inhabitants of that time for what is yet to come for them to enjoy, experience and savor. Post add on comment: You kids have one very major advantage. This all was done in the past and it's been recorded for all time. You can listen to it any time you like. Sadly that future music is off limits to me and all us other old farts.

The album, Dark Side of the Moon, in which this song is on this album. Next year, this song and album will be celebrating its 50 Anniversary. When it was released in 1973, this album broke some records. From 1973 to 1988 or over 700 weeks, DSOTM stayed on Billboard Charts. Guinness Book of World Records gave this distinction. The place lost their fuckingminds. Radiohead didn’t tour and if they did it was not in the US. . I guess the 60’s/70’s music had a resurgence when I was in college. I've listened to Pink Floyd my whole life, this was my Neena's favorite song and to listen to it now is very cathartic, still gives me the chills and goosebumps

Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon continues to hold the record, by far, for the most charted weeks on the Billboard 200: 917! The set, which was released in 1973 and spent a week at No. 1, continued to chart on a mostly regular basis through 1988

There's a reason that in 1980 Pink Floyd Dark Side of the Moon was voted by critics and fans as the #1 lp of the decade (70s). ...and there were a lot of great albums put out in that particular decade!

I'm so touched by those who cried in this video, especially the young women. I was once a young woman but now am an old one. I heard this song when I was young, and I thought I understood it then. I understand it now!

True. You look back and realise the wasted opportunities. So prophetic.

I listen to this album with a friend for the first time and right before this song came on he said, "I can sleep good to this album", and then this song came on and I said, "no you won't". This song wakes you back up.

This song came out when I was like 11. I'm 61 and a half. It never ages. 💚❤️💜💛💙

Roger's lyrics really stands the test of "time" no rock band can boast of such music and lyrics

Out of Pink Floyd's many incredible tunes, I think this is their best. Majestic but raw, with lyrics that speak to everyone.

Brought back to the early '70s sitting around with friends, all of us on LSD, listening to Floyd on the local FM station all night. Amazing memories.
