She's indeed very passionate, very intense. She went through a lot and at the time, french media were treating her horribly... it was also a really hard time in her personal life and she had important health issues. She had dark thoughts and she said this moment saved her as she realized it was worthy to be alive. Her fans were singing "On t'aime" (we love you) instead of "Je t'aime". Lara is not only an incredible artist but also an incredible, smart, wise woman. She's honestly one of the most inspirational people i've ever seen...and she radiates such a positive energy, today more than ever, she's a sunshine.

Thank you for your reaffirming what I have said in so many of my comments in other reactions that "she IS the song.

She is an Angel on Earth. She meets fans on the street and she takes time to talk with them. She is truly a sweet person.

During this time, Lara was going through a difficult period in her life. Her devoted fans knew this and met beforehand with her pianist to secretly surprise her and sing to her. Notice how he stops to let the fans start singing and then he accompanies them. Lara sings Je T'aime (I love you) but the audience sings On T'aime (we love you). She is noticeably moved. Before they begin one person yells out Non parle (spelling) Lara, which means don't sing Lara, to tell her they wanted to sing to her. Very, very devoted fans. Beautiful moment and later Lara said she found it so moving it gave her strength to appreciate life.

The pianist stopped playing because Lara gave him a signal to hold back, look at her right hand from approx. 3:10 till 3:14. Her mic is in her left hand. Check the original video on the MB Channel from 0:26 till 0:30.

THANK YOU GUYS!!!!!! The words would have utterly broken you. The crowd is singing "We love you" TO her over the actual lyrics "I love you" which Lara is attempting to counter sing back to her adoring audience. She is the Queen, long may she reign.

For those saying she lost a loved one, or got divorced...none of this is true. Lara was simply coming out of a really rough time mentally because of both her professional life and her personal life. She had had suicidal thoughts, to sum it up. She explained it several times during interviews. Her pianist and a fan arranged this moment, and the entire audience sang for her, changing the words to “On t’aime” which means “we love you”. Lara said during this moment, she realized the beauty of life, and that it’s really worth living it.

This song raised quite a controversy at the time. Lara received a lot of negative critics in the media and was accused of yelling the words "Je t'aime", that it was just max volume noise instead of singing. Yet this is the song that definitely raised her popularity among the public and made her breaking through. There was quite a discrepancy between the press and the public appreciation. Lara suffered from these harsh critics and this is the reason why you won't find (or with difficulty) any video of the original interpretation of the song, instead, like in this recording, Lara would either let the fans sing it or will sing it softly. But if you listen to the album you will notice a big difference. Remember that she was still in her debuts at the time and the press was not so arranging than with established artists. Retrospectively these critics were not deserved, when you see now how she can belt powerfully (cf adagio) and the immense artist she became. Yet maybe it is also something that was decisive in her will to perfect her vocal technique and show the critics they were wrong, we will never know exactly.

Great reaction Angie, no shame in being moved. I think about how overwhelming that feeling had to be for her. To have a crowd that size sing your song back to you is one thing. An anecdote about what you just saw in this video: During an interview on a French radio in 2019 ( kzread.info/dash/bejne/gZ112bWQqtLadJc.html ), Lara was talking about the 3 best moments of her career. She said that her duet with Johnny Hallyday was one of them but not the first. Another was her duet with a Belgian singer called Maurane, and finally, that moment with the audience at that concert in Paris in 2001. Eighteen years later, that moment remained in her memory as one of the best.

At the chorus they say: "we love you", instead of "I love you" (it's "Je t'aime"). Normally when she sings this song her fans sing the chorus with her, but this time a fan arranged it with the pianist and she posted in a fan group a request for her fellow fans to surprise Lara singing the whole song FOR her, instead of the chorus WITh her!

It IS pure love that she's getting from her fans. They even changed the lyrics from "Je t'aime." "I love you." to "On t'aime." "We love you." making it perfectly clear that they weren't just singing along with the song. Her fan club knew she was going through some rough times both personally and professionally, so they decided to cheer her up, and i'm pretty sure it worked.

What an experience for her after putting up with the main street media who kept finding fault with her. How? I do not know because she is fantastic. awww thank you for that reaction! Lara is a beautiful and oooold old soul you can tell it during interviews. She always find the right words, really into "anchoring" and "alignment" she uses these words a lot. she is HILARIOUS but always has a very down to earth vision of things and her interviews are always fascinating! in a documentary about her, I saw that she remembered the first names of certain fans and spoke to them and took news of them as members of his family. I think that's it, her fans are her family and she behaves with them, gives them, respects them equally and they give it back to her. That's just a beautiful love story that goes really well with the lyrics ..yo'ure both really touching i cried too ah ah !
