You forget one of his favourites. Vicente del Bosque gave Xabi the rol that Xabi wanted in the national team. Del Bosque benched David Silva in the World Cup, and put Xabi as an untouchable starter. And that was huge in a team that came from winning the Euro two years before, and worked like a clock.

@@ChrisKara-fq7rz Tuchel is honestly not a bad coach. He did well with BVB, PSG, Dortmund and Chelsea. He just has a hard time at current Bayern but we can`t say for sure that it`s him. Maybe the team is just having a bad season or maybe it needs more of a re-build. I don`t know honestly.........but Bayern has won the Bundesliga for 10+ seasons in a row at this point and this run was bound to come to an end at some point. It would be good for both Bayern and the league as a whole if Alonso wins it this year. It`s one thing to dominate the league. It`s another to win it every time. A healthy dose of competition is long overdue.

I’m really glad Alonso is having this season. He deserves it.

Xhaka went from Arsenal to Leverkusen to become invincible and make sure Kane never wins a title.

I can speak for all bayern fans when we say we never wanted tuchel at bayern to begin with... it was the board who sacked nagelsmann, with nagelsmann at least we were competing in europe, we were undefeated in the champions league . Tuchel has not only made bayern played even worse but has made bayern look weak... to this day i never seen the hype about thomas tuchel, it was the prem fans and media who made him seem he was a world class manager when hes not.

Compare points last year at this time under nagelsmann and under tuchel. Tuchel has more. Dortmund were terrible [ bayern hammered them 2x last year]. Bayer are legit setting a record being undefeated the whole season in all competitions. Tuchel was two points behind THAT. now five. Just sayin.

This guy has no clue what he's talking about. Xabi Alonso didn't change their style? They played without a striker and he swapped the offensive minded Frimpong with the defensive minded Stanisic. He literally adapted their style to Bayern and it worked.

I hope Leverkusen win it. Not just because I like Alonso but because Bayern has been bossing the league for over a decade at this point and it has really hurt both the league AND Bayern Munich. Being dominant is one thing. Winning it literally every year is another. Some healthy competition is good. The days when the occasional team like a Wolfsburg or a Dortmund won a title need to return.

@cowboybeboop9420 agreed , except for the new champion being a team like Leverkusen , Wolfsburg , Hoffenheim or Leipzig. there is a reason teams like this are not respected by fans. wish it could be teams like Eintracht Frankfurt , Stuttgart or even teams like Köln , Hamburg , Düsseldorf , Hertha with their big cities and fan potential. however over the decades all these teams have shown nothing but incompetence in the long term ( with Frankfurt & Stuttgart recently being a bit of exceptions , but we will see how long they will last , as history in the Bundesliga shows , sadly it's gonna be short )

Back then Bayern was still the top dog but every other year there was a team that would rise up and win the title and there was some sort of competition and excitement. I remember Werder Bremen, Stuttgart, Wolfsburg and Dortmund winning it.

@@cowboybeboop9420 agreed again ! the way Bayern did it was gaming the Pay TV contracts to exclusively & secrectly gain more money than other teams ( sort of like a black budget of the TV rights owner ) , and thereby monopolized the Bundesliga. apparently the Bundesliga has been massively declining in fan interest over the recent years in Germany , which the sold out stadium don't really reflect as a whole. it's gonna be difficult for leagues like Serie A , Bundesliga , Ligue 1 to offer their product in the future. Premier League and La Liga are different beasts. different stratospheres. I have even seen conspiracy theories alluding to this Bundesliga season being "fixed" to let another team win, because it otherwise hurts the league's reputation too much.

Waiting to celebrate at the end of the season in Leverkusen. X. Alonso and the team are incredible.

Hope Leverkusen can keep that up, but right now it doesn't mean anything. I have seen Bayern Munich winning the league way too many times on the last day, in the 94 minute.

Bro, there is a huge difference between this season and last season. Last season, Bayern and Dortmund had bad results very often. And if I'm not mistaken, Bayern always destroys Dortmund in direct matches. Last year Dortmund had 43 points in 21 stages, now Leverkusen have 55 points in 21 stages. It's a huge difference.

Xabi Alonso is setting up to be a better manager than he was as player, and that's saying a lot. The most desirable manager in world football at the moment. I can see greatness in the making. Can't wait to see what happens next. What he's done so far is nothing short of amazing. Impressive would be an understatement.

Xabi Alonso is my most favourite player of my most favourite position which is Holding Midfield.

Alonso did change the entire formation btw. They play so dynamic so maybe people couldnt tell just watching the game but it was very different from something that has been almost the same for the rest of the season.

right. he played without striker (Wirtz played role of rather false 9) and with two wingers. clear intention was to play quick in transitions and give Bayern possession. so it was different from what we have seen this season in most games. it was probably tactical switch and also dicated by players that were available to Alonso. without Palacios it would've been too risky to play usual way vs Bayern that also showed idealessness in possession under Tuchel.

@@dnny1440 in the first half I honestly thought tht maybe Tuchels plan was for a different Leverkusen and they were surprised, so I thought *for sure* he would change in the second half realizing this was obviously not working and since it was only 1-0 they could turn everything around. He made those changes in the 60th minute (after it was then already 2-0). I think its fair enough to adapt ur tactics for a strong opponent, but I feel like you need to be able to adapt in game as well when you can see your plan isnt working.

Dier had a good start when he was the only option, because Minjae was out in Asia cup and Upa was injured. That bought him the start in this match and it wasn't really his fault they fell apart. Today they played a weird formation. It wasn't the right time for experiments, but with 11 injuries (almost 12 with Neuer) it's going to happen.

You're actually wrong - should have watched the game. He did change the lineup. For Bayern. A couple of years ago Dortmund were 8pts clear - and still lost the title. Munich are usually a pain in the b*tt when they hunt somebody. Leverkusen hasn't had a single bad day the whole season AND half of last season. Should be coming any day now. Bayern were pretty bad, though. Tuchels last months in Munich. Uli won't listen to the Idk stuff from him much longer. My guess: He already has Xabi. What would Xabi want in Liverpool? Following a club legend he can only lose - double that if Liverpool wins anything this year. At Bayern he could pull off the same stunt as he does now in Leverkusen.

Next season they will be playing UCL, which will keep everybody motivated. I can see him leaving for the 26/27 season, which is exactly how long his contract it going.

Harry Kane does not play defense but seriously why would they get Eric Dier??

1. Kane has better personality and team work, Lewandowski is better in finishing. 2. Leverkusen taught Bayern bosses, Tuchel and most of Bayern's clown fans what is football. 3. Xabi's passing game and game plan is prominent. 4. Although lost the game, move on is what the fans can do now. The only relieving one Bayern won against Mönchengladbach otherwise season can be said ended. Good luck for the rest. 5. Congratulations to Leverkusen and Stanišić. If Kane doesn't win the Bundesliga this season, it will be extremely funny in my opinion. The man totally desperate to win trophies and thought it would be easy pickings by going to Bayern. If he leaves early, he will go Liverpool. If he leaves after a few seasons to respect his Leverkusen legacy and try winning more, he will go to Real Madrid afterwards.

Alonso has a quit clause where he can sign for Real, Spain, Bayern or LOLerpool, no questions asked. Alonso said that he wants another club job before stepping up to Real and finally end with Spain. Will he go to LOLerpool to start the story or will he go to Bayern for glory?

I always say that if you want to beat Bayern always hit them on the counter and be solid defensively. Frankfurt did it and Leverkusen just proved it once more.

Alonso: We never lose our face. Tuchel: scared. Thats not Bayern DNA and thats why Alosno was a player in Munich, Madrid and Liverpool.

The thing is what Tuchel did at Chelsea, he can't do it anywhere again. Tuchel used the 3-4-3 and 5-2-3 to terrorize Europe. At Bayern they want beautiful football and attacking football which Tuchel did not do at Chelsea. Coz at Chelsea he was winning titles and important games with the 3-4-3 especially. Chelsea was not giving him pressure like what Bayern is doing. And someone might argue he used the 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3 at PSG and it worked. Yep it worked but it worked only in France. There are a lot of reasons why Tuchel is struggling at Bayern and don't get me wrong am not taking anything away from Leverkusen. Xabi Alonso has done a great job.

Im sorry but these are the type of matches that kane needs to show up in and today he was totally invisible when it mattered. You cant keep using the excuse of teamates fault or team is poor. Going to bayern who win the league every year and losing the season he joins is incredible bad look. the biggest game and dropped he worst performance.

Can you believe that the best team in world football right now domestically isn’t not even Real Madrid Bayern Munich Manchester City Barcelona Liverpool Arsenal or Inter Milan, the best team currently is Bayer Leverkusen. For months, I’ve been wondering how long can they keep this up will they slow down after the winter break and this win against Bayern Munich, it was a statement and they’re still unbeaten and there’s a feeling that they’re gonna win the Bundesliga. Xabi Alonso is just amazing and watching the way this team has been getting results and winning games, sometimes I wonder if Bayer Leverkusen are truly ending the whole farmers league narrative in the Bundesliga and they’re not losing games and even after the winter break, they’ve been grinding results and they sent a real statement and message. He seriously took this team from relegation threatened to potentially winning the Bundesliga, ending Bayern Munich’s 11 year dominance and regardless of whether you follow the league or not you should back Bayer Leverkusen to win the league and it’s great that another team is playing much better than them and actually had a big win. However despite this win and them being 5 points ahead of Bayern Munich, keep in mind that the title race in the Bundesliga isn’t over and let me just give people a reminder that Arsenal were literally top of the table for the entire season yet they still didn’t win the premier league and it’s too early to label them as Bundesliga champions and if anyone learned from what happened with Arsenal last season, it’s one game at a time and only then you’ll know how good of a position you’re in to close out this title race. The worst case scenario for them is that they play this well and after this Bayern Munich win they still don’t win the Bundesliga and we’ll see how the rest of the season plays out.

Worse than picking the wrong tactics and lineup is that Tuchel didn't make any changes when he saw it wasn't working. The CBs were outrun all the time, Boey tangled his feet cause he didn't know how to play on the left, Kim and Mazraoui (who knows how to be left WB BTW) had just come back from Africa and Asia. And, well, the rest of the team sucked, too, especially Sane before the first and with the third goal, which he probably could have prevented with more alertness and effort. Thanks for that. Please go somewhere else. And take the coach with you. Sincerely, one of many pissed off Bayern fans.

Alonso will replace Tuchel at Bayern next season. I'm 60% sure. 35% for Liverpool and unfortunately only 5% that he stays in Leverkusen for another year. The football romantic in me, who wishes for him to stay and lead this group of players through the CL died long ago. Klopp is the only active coach on this planet who would actually do this for the right reasons. But Bayer has enough money, so I still give them a fair 5% chance. But knowing Bayern all too well I believe we'll see him there eventually.

That was pathetic....What was Tuchel thinking, playing a tactic against Leverkusen of all Teams, that failed miserably against Mainz, a game Bayern lost. And why on earth would you "experiment" with Players, in a game that really had to be won, or at the very least got a draw out of! We offered nothing and it was 38 minutes before we even had a shot on target. All the possession with no cohesion, no attacking prowess worth mentioning, Kane hardly touched the ball, Defence far to wide open, Midfield none existent. I never thought Tuchel was the right Man for the job, when he was appointed, I think even less so now
