Welcome & Thanks from Japan 有難う💛。 BABYMETAL employs two squads as the band in their back. Japanese one and American one who are both amazing musicians. The band you see in this video is Western (American) Kami (= God) Band by Chris (g), CJ (g), Clint (b) and Anthony (d). I witnessed this very concert at the venue April this year. BABYMETAL is the best musical phenomenon I have ever experienced in my 68-year-long life. (Before BM, I was a stubborn jazz / funk lover) We say "Japan is the country obsessed by Rock Music". The history is very long and the obsession started in 1966 when Beatles visited Japan and held 5 concerts at Budokan. Speaking of hard rock / heavy metal music, a number of bands started to come to Japan since as early as 1970s : Led Zeppelin / Grand Funk Railroad (1971), Deep Purple (1972), Queen (1975), Kiss (1977), Cheap Trick / Van Halen / Scorpions (1978), Judas Priest (1978/79) and so on. Now, any type of rock can be enjoyed here, especially by many all-female or women-fronted bands. They are daughters of American / European rock, for sure. (Many are grand-daughters in terms of age.) Uh-oh, we also say "Japan is the country obsessed by Jazz". It had started earlier than rock 😄

Females took over the metal scene in Japan. BabyMetal took off around 2013 and that opened the doors for the women to step up and own it.

Yes, it was Clint Tustin on bass. Ryan Neff substituted on bass for the US tour earlier this year (2023). Mr. Tustin was back for the tour in Europe.

Welcome to the Foxhole and BabyMetal journey.🦊🤘🔥 Nice first reaction and extremely rare song suggestion for introducing to Babymetal journey, although this song is really cool don't take it as the usual BM sound bc this one belongs to latest album, showing a more mature side we've never seen before, trust me when exploring more BM songs especially early era days you'll find a lot of songs with more happy and playful vibes (sometimes with deep message and lyrics too), plus they were even younger adding so much to the kawaii factor but lemme start with basic info about them: BabyMetal is a Japanese metal dance unit created in 2010 under another Jpop/Jrock group called Sakura Gakuin, they had 11 and 12 years old when started this and become independent after 2013, they created their own genre called kawaii-metal (kawaii means cute, hence the voices of the girls) mixing Jpop with metal sound and different subgenres along with many more rhythms. Their name is a reference to a new genre and not related to their ages or "baby" faces, is a pun intended play words with "heavy-metal" which sounds similar to "baby-metal". They are: *SuMetal* lead vocalist, now 25, next week she'll get 26. *MoaMetal* scream and dance, now 24. *YuiMetal* scream and dance, former member since 2018. *MomoMetal* scream and dance, she's 20 and is the new official member since April 1st recently. None of them are related. After 2018 you'll see backup dancers performing along with them but none of them are official members, they don't sing, only dance, but that status change recently like i said. About this song: It's one of SuMetal's favorite from this album. I like the progressive metal elements (not sure about the speed or power metal but you'll get those types of songs, don't worry), that heavy breakdown and the existential questions. There's also a reference to Macbeth in the lyrics besides the obvious lines famously known by Snow White tale. Here's some official info: Mirror Mirror (MIRROR) _Mirror, mirror on the wall...this song embodies a parallel world where the world inside the mirror and the world of reality go back and forth._ _Is what you see in the mirror your true self or the self you wish to be?_ Mirror Mirror was the 5th and final single they released from this new album called The Other One released in March showing us a new sound and a BM side we've never seen before with this metalverse, this is the theme on this album, and more will be explained and reveal later when exploring this new concept album. This was at BabyMetal Begins - The Other One - Clear Night live at PIA Arena MM, Yokohama, last April 2nd with MomoMetal debuting as the new official third member, she was one of the avengers since 2019 and we're all proud of her, but don't think this as a replacement of YuiMetal, she's like a new incorporation to this group for this new lore and metalverse era. Also the BM logo change, it doesn't have the skull and the heart in the B letter, as well there's only three feathers in the logo unlike four prior to this. The Western Kami Band was in charge of these shows, none of the musicians are official members and they don't have credits, only the composers, only the girls are official members, but if you wanna know about them don't worry we got your back, they're here since 2019 helping the girls on tour and some of them comes from another band called "Galactic Empire" with Star Wars theme, they're: Chris Kelly and CJ Masciantonio on guitars, Clint Tustin on bass, and Anthony Barone on drums (he's former Shadow Of Intent member and worked independently), recently on the World Tour already finished they switched the bassit for Ryan Neff from "As I Lay Dying", this is a common thing you'll see in this band even with previous Japanese band and before them with a fake band called "baby-bones", they started using a whole different crew of musicians and later they found somewhat the stable set when doing concerts but like i said, sometimes switching members here and there until now They performed this at Sabaton's Europe Tour, Asian/Australian Tour, The Babyklok Tour in the US and more recently at the Europe & UK Tour, everyone were having a blast with their classic songs and the new ones, and more is coming next year. Excellent first reaction, thank you and welcome to the BABYMETAL Foxhole.🦊You were absolutely right when you said you'd never seen anything quite like them and said it was unique. BABYMETAL created their very own metal sub-genre - they are that most rare thing, a band doing something new and untried and for a whole lot of us they breathed much needed new life into music and into metal in particular after it all seemed to be stagnating, so many bands doing the same things over and again, nearly every new band seemingly trying to sound more angry or evil than each other, all growls, screams and harsh vocals and no melody. BABYMETAL brought a fusion of great metal instrumentals coupled with JPop hooks, melodies and aesthetics ... and they have continued to develop and evolve from those beginnings. BABYMETAL are like nothing you will have seen or heard before, they don't limit themselves to any one main style or genre and you won't be able to pigeonhole or put them in any one box like you can with virtually every other band in the world, they are one of a kind and they invented their own genre and style that nobody has been able to copy successfully (some have tried, none came close) including bringing choreographed dancing to metal (but not as you might know it from pop acts where it is nearly always used just to fill the stage or give you almost naked girls (and boys) to look at to take your mind off often bland music). BABYMETAL's choreo helps with interpreting the song - a lyric or the meaning etc, but it is designed to involve and lead the crowd, to give them their cues when to jump, shout, pump their fists, chant and so on. BABYMETAL are complete masters of crowd control and crowd involvement. BABYMETAL are Su-metal (lead vocalist), Moametal and Momometal (backing vocals, harmonies, dance and hype). They are key to what makes BABYMETAL different, they lead the crowd, they give them cues when to jump, shout, chant, pump their fists, sing along and so much more - they are the vital link, the bridge between the crowd and the band and they are black belts in crowd control. This was Momometal's very first concert as an official member. She had supported Su and Moa as one of three dancers (the Avengers) who filled the third spot since 2019. She was finally revealed as an official member the night before on 1st April this year and here she was, finally with her own headset microphone and able to sing at last. The original third member, Yuimetal, last performed in October 2017. She missed a whole year, unable to perform for undisclosed health reasons. In October 2018 she announced that she was still not fully recovered and, being unable to perform, she had decided she would leave the band. Su and Moa chose to continue as a duo for the next 4-5 years through to and a bit beyond their 10th anniversary and only now are they a trio again with Momometal. When they started in 2010 Su was 12, Yui and Moa were 11. Su will be 26 next week, Moa is 24, Momoko is 20. They are supported in live shows by the Kami Band - some of Japan's very best session musicians, each one of them a world class instrumentalist. They were phased in gradually from October 2012. The Kami Band members are all world class musicians and BABYMETAL needed them to move to the next level and to start touring the world, but make no mistake - BABYMETAL are the three girls, they had to prove themselves playing for free in shopping malls, a side stage by the food court used for comedians at a festival, tiny venues with a 150 capacity, and they had to find an audience that nobody (except perhaps their producer Kobametal) believed would exist before the Amuse talent agency would provide them with the beginnings of their financial backing to bring in a live band. They had started in 2010 with little or no budget so they sang to a backing track at the start and when they started doing their own small shows guys in skeleton suits (known as Babybones) would pretend to play the instruments. The Kami Band may be session musicians with their own projects and bands, so they do swap in and out depending on their own availability, but the same hard core of about 6 or 7 musicians played the vast majority of concerts since they became the full time support early in 2014. Kami means god or spirit, so in the BABYMETAL lore they are the gods of guitar, bass and drums summoned from the dead by the Fox God to support BABYMETAL - as such they originally wore traditional white burial robes and corpse face paint. At the end of 2017 the robes were changed for black robes and since 2019 the face paint was replaced with masks (nearly everybody wants the face paint back, or for them to just get rid of the masks). From their first appearance in October 2012 the Kami Band only played at a couple of festivals and the encores in some shows. They became the full time support for all live shows at the start of 2014 and have been with BABYMETAL ever since - but only for live shows, they do not record the studio versions. In 2019 the Kami Band of the West (American musicians) were introduced and they have been supporting BABYMETAL on their more extended foreign tours since then. It was them in this video - Chris Kelly and CJ Masciantonio on guitars, Clint Tustin on bass and Anthony Barone on drums. In 2014 BABYMETAL started to tour outside of Asia and Japan for the first time coming to Europe and the US and since then they have won new fans all over the world and become internationally the most successful Japanese band ever and one of the very best live bands on the planet right now (with about 30 international awards to their name to prove that is not just my own opinion) - their 3rd album released in 2019 was the first by any Asian group to reach number 1 in the US Billboard Hard Rock charts. They have nearly 70 songs now, every one of them is different from the last. They have songs in virtually every metal genre but will mix in other musical styles and genres with the metal, often when you least expect it. Some songs lean towards their pop roots others are just good hard metal and they do everything in between - so if you don't like one song no problem - try another, the chances are you'll love it. 'Mirror Mirror' is not the first time they have strayed into the Prog Metal area - 'Tales of the Destinies' was a song on their second album in 2016 and is an homage to Dream Theater (and was praised by Mike Portnoy too). I hope you will react to more BABYMETAL songs, they will always surprise you and you can't go far wrong with whatever you choose (maybe leave 'Gimme Chocolate' until you are more used to them - or find a good live version). The official videos are all good and worth seeing (a couple are almost essential viewing), but BABYMETAL are a live performance act, that is where they are always at their very best.

Welcome to one of the most astonishing live bands/groups for over 10 years - you'll be hard pressed to watch anything of theirs that doesn't surprise you. Great reaction to a wonderful band :D. For me - I love Monochrome (3 versions), Kagerou or Headbanger legend 1997. Japan has the most AMAZING metal music scene (better than the West atm imo) - and a lot of great female bands (Babymetal imo was instrumental in many of these appearing).

For a first reaction to Babymetal you really did quite well. You didn't have a ton of background but what you had was all correct. That and your obvious enjoyment made for a really fun reaction. Nice job. Babymetal has a surprisingly long history for being as young as they are. Of the three singers two are original from their start way back in 2010...when they weren't even teenagers yet. There is so much history and lore surrounding BM. They created their own genre of metal called Kuwaii Metal and paved the way for the many Japanese female metal groups currently playing. I'd love to see more reactions and would offer only this advice. Their MV's are great but to get the whole BM experience their live videos are the way to go. I'm almost jealous...you have so much wonderful new music to hear for the first time. Be well.

Babymetal has two backing bands. One Japanese and one Americans, both of them are referred as Kami band. The one playing here is the US kami band. Chris Kelly and CJ Masciantonio on guitars, Clint Tustin on bass and Anthony Barone on drums. The Japanese Kami band mainly consists of Takayoshi Ohmura, Leda Cydnus, Isao and ofcourse Lt Mikio Fujioka on guitars, BOH on bass and Hideki on drums.The band members are not permanant, they rotate on terms of availability, but they mostly keep the same core.

They have two different bands for tours. In Japan they mostly use the Kami band. For tours in Europe and the US they use the Western Kami Band.

​@@BemusingBillMore or less. The Western Kami Bandis mainly the Drumer Anthony Barrone together with the guitarrists of a Star Wars revival Band. In fact they brought the Maske. While the old Kami Band was the foundation of todays Kami Band. On every european and US concert and several japanese Events the Western Kami Band is used.

@@BemusingBill Babymetal is a fusion of Japanese Idol and Metal. Some metal fans are in denial about the Japanese Idol. But I love several things based on Japanese Idol so it must be pretty cool. Or at least there are cool things about it. I think it's a little crazy to say there is nothing of value in any other genre of music except metal.

"Mirror Mirror" is one of my favorites songs (if not my favorite) from their latest album, The Other ONE, released earlier this year. It combines perfectly some progressive metal, metalcore a nasty hardcore breakdown (I see you enjoyed it as much as I do, haha...) and a very, very BABYMETAL chorus. I'm very fan of the pre-chorus, quoting Shakespeare's Macbeth while the instrumentals do an incredibly cool modulation. Their songwriting is known for having many interesting little details and for being unpredictable. You already have a ton of insanely good information. So, I just wanted to remark the fact that they are very diverse musically and never hesitate on mixing any music genre with any metal sub-genre. Welcome to the Babymetal community! Great first reaction! Seeing as @rah2287 did a great job with intorducing the girls, I'll just describe them so you can tell them apart. Main vocalist is Su-Metal. She'll almost always be the one with the mic and her hair will always be done up in a ponytail. Shes also the oldest, being born in 1997 (thats a bit important as one of the concerts is a celebration of her birthday so it was entitled legend 1997. Next up you have the 2 other original members, Yuimetal and Moametal. They will always have their hair done in pigtails. Side have side mics so their hands are free for dancing. Moa is identifiable through her enormous dimples in her cheeks when she smiles. Yui, also is identifiable by her cheeks, except with Yui its not dimples but pudgy baby cheeks. As mentioned Yui sadly left in 2018 due to health reasons. For a short period it was just Moa and Su. Eventually they got one of 3 girls to act as a temporary fill-in for Yui's spot, which they named the Avengers. You can spot an avenger, again, by their hairstyle. They dont have either a ponytail, nor pigtails, but rather buns where there WOULD have been pigtails. Kind of similar to Chun-Li from Street fighter if you know who that is. Both Yui are Moa are the same age, both being born in 1999 and only a few months apart from each other. Lastly we have the newest member, Momometal. During her time as an avenger her hair was done up in buns as previously mentioned, but in this concert it was her first time as official Babymetal member and if you look carefully uou'll find her hair is done in pigtails now similar to Moa's. Anyhow, hopefully that helps a little. There is more I COULD say about them, but I'm typing this on my phone at almost 3am and need to sleep lol Looking forward to hearing more!!

This was fun to watch! I'll leave you with an anecdote, plenty of others will write walls of information haha. I'm 46, recently discovered Babymetal and my wife and I saw them a few months ago in Houston and Dallas. It's absolutely wild how high energy they are in person! They have such a cool powerful but playful stage presence and seeing how fluid and quick and in sync the dance moves look like in person is wild! And yes, the backing band is incredible.. and Su's voice is so loud and powerful in person.. they are truly a marvel! They make me laugh and smile and feel like a kid again. They are inspiring and so exciting and fun! Each song has different elements of genres blended with some sort of metal, so none of it gets monotonous. Some songs are playful and fun but others have some powerful messaging like antibullying. Hope you check out more .. you'll freak at their older stuff that REALLY leaned into the dichotomy of heavy insane death metal with cute high pitched vocals. Personally I think it's all really cool!

👍 👍 BabyMetal began in 2010 there were Suzuka Nakamoto age 12 Moa Kikuchi and Yui Mizuno. Both Moa and Yui were 11 years old All three girls were friends and classmates who attended an idol group (Sakura Gakuin) founded in 2010 by Amuse Talent Agency for girls 10 to 15. Themed around school life (they attended regular school as well) the girls would learn and train at vocals, dancing, public speaking and etiquette, etc., graduate at age 15 and then move onto whatever entertainment path they chose or that suited their talents. Key Kobayashi was a music producer for Amuse and heard Suzuka sing at age 9 and was impressed with her strong vocals and stage presence. Kobayashi was a fan of heavy metal but believed that the genre had become stale and tired (especially in Japan) with metal bands getting old Kobayashi believed the genre needed to be reborn (BabyMetal means the birth of a new metal genre). Kobayashi felt that Suzuka had the ability to front a metal band and that her vocals and presence could withstand the metal guitars and drums. The fusion of Jpop and Metal began. He placed Moa and Yui as backup singers/dancers and a phenomenon was about to result. At first Amuse showed no interest and the girls had only financing from Kobayashi. They performed at strip malls and small venues using clothes borrowed from friends and family. No money for a real band they had friends dressed in homemade skeleton costumes pretending to play instruments to a backtrack. They became a sensation (these young ladies paid their dues). Amuse saw the potential and in 2012 hired the best session musicians Japan had to offer (The Kami Band) who tours with them today (now includes world class musicians from the USA for tours outside of Asia).
