I hate open-ended books too! They make me feel as if I've been cheated out of something good by the author ...

Listening to audio books by definition is not reading, and I don't think that's ableist. Saying that listening to audio books is not as valuable as reading is imo. Really, I think we as a society need to stop seeing reading as a superior or more "intellectual" form of media/art consumption . Putting reading on a pedestal is what is is ableist and classist from my point of view . I think the focus should be on the work of art itself and not the method in which it was perceived.

I have already commented this before- but Girls of Paper and Fire is a wlw fantasy series (there are other queer couples too). It is not spicy as it is YA, but AMAZING chemistry and emotional story for the couple, highly recommend!! Three book series and moves pretty quickly, cannot speak highly enough about it!!

I wouldn’t say I prefer ebooks to physical books but ebooks were certainly a lot easier when I was living at home, saving for a house deposit and only had my bedroom for storage. I currently have about 500 books on my iPad mini, can you imagine how much room that many physical books would take? I’m starting to collect physical books now, a few are signed copies so I think maybe I’ll just do physical copies when I can get them signed

Oh, I’ve read two books that kinda falls into the sapphic fantasy: Payback’s a Witch by Lana Harper (it’s the first book of a series about witches in the present days and the first, fourth and fifth books are wlw relationships, but I’ve only read the first three books on the series by the time I’m commenting here. I loved the first one and can not wait to read the rest) and A Dark And Hollow Star by Ashley Shuttleworth (another first one in a series, but this one is about fairies and it’s set in our day in time. Has loads of LGBT+ couples and representation and the main couple is wlw).

Taken by the Witch Queen by Luna Fury is book 1 in a lesbian fantasy series (very very smutty) I'm on book 5. Taming the Storm by Averey Phoenix is something I want to check out. There is also Prisoner of the Witch Queen by Edie Marr but I havent read it.

I would do some research on her anti-trans statements. She has some very problematic beliefs that she is very vocal about

@@samkwiatkowski3282 I looked into it and I get why people would be offended by some of the things she says but honestly I think she just views things from a biological/facts over feelings point of view which is valid I guess. It does seems like she has some sort of hatred towards trans people because of the way she words her writing but I think her opinion is valid.

@alexr115 I agree with this as well. If you actually research what was said and think critically about what she was saying. Especially when the beginning of it all was her standing up for women and caring about the young folk not taking life altering medication too soon. Anyone who actually looks up the timeline of JK events, would too be confused why there is such a bang wagon of hate against her. But its really easy to avoid the hate by being wishy washy and trusting what someone on youtube says 5 mins after saying they dont think critically about what they read. 😅 no hate to OP but its wild to see

I mean the KZread comments likely aren't the best place to have this convo, in fairness, but my tldr is that I totally believe JKR is arguing in good faith (genuinely has fears & isn't generally trying to be hateful), but I think she's got it wrong in ways that stigmatize trans people, and that deserves to be criticized because she's taken aim at an already a vulnerable group. She frequently straw mans/makes unsubstantiated claims in a way that appears academic on first read, and that combined with her large following makes her arguments more problematic. To address the point you make about puberty blockers, she fails to address the risk of no intervention for trans youth (i.e. high risk of suicide/other negative mental health outcomes) in her discussions which is dismissive & a flaw in her position. While no medication has no risks, there are cases where some medical risk is preferable - i.e. to prevent gender dysphoria and allow people autonomy over their bodies. A good example of this is antidepressants or adhd meds. Also CBC just had a good & balanced article on the discussion of puberty blockers which I doubt I can link here but was worth a read. She also tends to advocate for punishing an entire group (i.e. restricting access to places for all trans women) rather than punishing the outliers who might masquerade as trans for nefarious purposes. I don't think that makes much sense, but it does put trans people in danger and further marginalizes them. I dont believe it's super helpful for people to demonize JKR in a way that plays into misogyny etc, both for the ethical reasons and because it undermines valid arguments against her, but I understand the strong condemnation of her. I also don't believe we should expect the same composure from people arguing against her in a lot of cases because she's able to have an "academic" argument about a subject meanwhile the people trying to make her see their humanity are arguing for the ability to safely access care essential to their well being-- so I think it's unfair to dismiss those people as overreacting/becoming emotional.
